Quick decisions—long term consequences: Managing the emergency dental patient BRIEF

A joint conference with ADAVB Northern and Mid-Western Group

We are often asked to manage unscheduled patients asking for immediate attention. Patients expect the same level of treatment despite the fact that you have “squeezed that patient in”. Decision making needs to be efficient to provide the most appropriate long-term outcome for the patient. The treatment process for these unscheduled appointments will be addressed from a number of points of view. How can treatment be delivered efficiently and expeditiously to minimise time? The treatment should be based on the patients long-term interest not the short-term requirements to fit the patient treatment into a busy day. Lecturers will provide their insight into how they manage patients who request rapid decision making followed by predictable treatment.
