Treatment planning When to extract TOPICS AND PRESENTERS What can you restore Dr Simon Wylie The decision of what can and can't be restored is in the hands of the restorative dentist who needs to have the ability to predict the biological and mechanical outcomes of a potential restoration. Clinical experience supports the decision-making process however the young practitioner needs guidelines to make sound decisions. Teeth need to be considered in isolation but also in the context of the mouth as a whole. Determining periodontal prognosis/crown lengthening/implant issues Dr Andrew Tucker Periodontal prognosis is based on multiple factors including patients’ systemic health, dental history, oral status, tooth and site-specific findings, and most importantly, patient compliance. Dr Tucker will cover the pertinent periodontal prognostic factors the clinician should consider when assessing a tooth to save or crown lengthen, or extract and replace with an implant. Treatment options for the compromised tooth – an endodontic perspective Dr Vijay John Deciding when to rehabilitate or replace the endodontically-involved compromised tooth can be complex. This lecture will review this challenge from an endodontic perspective and also consider the role of treatment options such as apical surgery, regenerative endodontics, root resections and hemisections in the age of implant alternatives.

LEARNING OUTCOMES At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

 isolate various issues related to the broken down dentition and  understand the complexities of implant how these impact on the prognosis of a restoration  build the confidence in the young clinician with regards to making sensible decisions and where possible to support this with a degree of evidence to support the decision-making process

therapy so as to be better able to assess
