Surgical skills masterclass BRIEF This course updates and educates participants on the theoretical and practical components of dento-alveolar surgical extractions, with a focus on set-up and techniques. There will be demonstrations and a hands-on workshop to consolidate the lecture material.

LEARNING OUTCOMES At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
• competently assess and manage surgical extractions • principles of surgical extraction and techniques, and management of common complications
PRESENTERS Dr Patrishia Bordbar has been in practice since 1996, and is a Melbourne graduate in medicine, dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) and surgical anatomy (Post-Graduate Diploma). She was the recipient of several awards and scholarships during her studies. Dr Bordbar has an FRACDS (OMS) and a fellowship in craniofacial surgery through The Royal College of Surgeons (England). In 2001 she was part of a team operating on over 100 patients with cleft lip and palate deformities in India. Patrishia is a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, an Honorary Senior Lecturer, Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne and a reviewer for several journals in the field of OMS. Mr Bernard Lim graduated top of his class in dentistry in 1999, and graduated with honours from medicine in 2005, with both degrees obtained from the University of Melbourne. Following this he worked as a surgical registrar gaining valuable experience in many of Melbourne’s major hospitals including St Vincent’s Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Austin Hospital, The Royal Children’s Hospital, Dandenong Hospital and The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, before completing his training in the specialist field of oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2009.
