Will my child need braces? Demystifying the mixed dentition TOPICS AND PRESENTERS Tooth loss and space maintenance Dr Elaine Lim Assessing occlusal and skeletal jaw development is an important part of assessing children at their dental check-ups. Decision making on whether orthodontics is indicated will be explained. Diagnosis, analysis and treatment options will be also be discussed.
Early intervention Dr Michael Woods Early orthodontic intervention should be based on a recognition of the widely-varying ranges of normal dental, occlusal and facial development in individual children. In this presentation, logical staging points will be provided to help clinicians with that recognition. The need for early intervention will be determined by setting real medium- to long-term contemporary treatment aims for each individual patient. Things to look out for... Dr Harleen Kumar Oral habits, dental anomalies, premature tooth loss and malocclusions are routinely observed in the mixed dentition. Early diagnosis and appropriate management can lead to both short- and long-term benefits for the patient. This presentation will help develop an understanding of the normal and problematic mixed dentition, its analysis and indications for early treatment.
