“Hands for Hope” was created by myself and two other team members for the 2011-2012 IDEC Student Competion, “aids in South Africa.” We developed a concept of providing both a stationary school and mobile schools in order to provide the widest range of education to children throughout the area.

The mobile school is a transformable piece which can be made compact for travel, and then expands to create a classroom-like atmosphere at any desired destination. It was our belief that having the option to take school to children in more remote areas would give them a better opportunity at attaining educational skills they need, but could not gain if they were not able to reach the stationary school’s site.

The Less is More House focuses on sustainability by providing the amenities of a “typical” houses in only 220 square feet. I developed the plan after conducting site studies such as orientation based on the sun’s path, noise, privacy, wind, and mapping the site’s topography.

Ludoteca is an Italian word that is roughly translated as a learning daycare and commu- 4 nity center. With the building’s strong connection to the Tiber river and landmark sites in the Trastevere neighborhood, I felt it important to develop the design around the concept of transparencty by creating a feeling of the Roman neighborhood within, but without mimicing the outside. 5

The University of Arkansas School of Social Work exists in an older buildng on campus that was in need of ideas for renovation in order to better serve the functions of the faculty and students, and to provide access to persons with disabilities, which it previously had not. My design solution met these needs with an invigorating and spacious solution.

An early drafting and space planning project, this apartment was based on a room in the Interior Design building. As a class, we measured the room’s dimensions and proceeded to craft a usable living space for a business woman. I placed the restroom and kitchen in the center with a lovered clerestory, and created an open circulation and rooms around it.
