L.L.  softball  team  earns  district  title By  ANDY  KIRKALDY WINOOSKI  â€”  The  Mount  Abraham-­Middlebury  9-­and-­10-­ year-­old  Little  League  Softball  All-­Star  team  last  week  won  the  District  1  championship  at  Win-­ ooski  High  School  to  earn  a  berth  in  this  weekend’s  Vermont  tourna-­ ment  in  Swanton.  The  Mt.  Abe-­Middlebury  squad  avenged  its  only  loss  in  the  Dis-­ trict  I  tournament  by  edging  South  Burlington,  7-­6,  on  July  11.  Mt.  Abe-­Middlebury  held  off  a  rally  by  the  defending  champion  Rebels  in  the  top  of  the  6th  inning  â€”  SB  scored  once,  but  could  not  push  the  tying  run  across.  The  Mt.  Abe-­Middlebury  team  compiled  a  4-­1  record,  losing  only  to  SB,  16-­8,  while  defeating  Vergennes,  Williston,  and  SB  in  (See  Softball,  Page  2B)

Relay Race Volunteers The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Vergennes is looking for volunteers to work at their 100 on 100 Relay Race on Saturday, August 16th. Volunteers will be responsible for checking-in runners, directing traffic, parking cars and helping to set-up and break-down the site. They will work at different times and locations along the route from Stowe to Ludlow on Route 100.
