Puppy Play group & Training: March 29-May 3rd: Sundays 10:15-10:45 Open to puppies 10-18 weeks of age the start date of the class. Did you know that puppies must be socialized with many humans and friendly dogs by four months of age to prevent fear towards people and other dogs? Unsocialized puppies often end up with fear aggression by the time they are one year in age. Don’t wait until your dog is an unruly adolescent with fear aggression and behavior issues, now is the time to get your puppy started on the right foot with proper socialization supervised by professionals to be sure your puppy has positive experiences. Learn what you need to, as well, to keep your puppy safe and navigate through the challenges of puppyhood. This is a fun playtime with built in short training sessions to create a foundation of learning and will strengthen the communication and relationship between you and your new puppy. Class is $60 for six weeks. Register online or in person at Middlebury Rec. Dept. Dog Games: March 29-May 3rd: 11-Noon Sundays An enjoyable class that is a unique opportunity to have fun and enjoy your dog while continuing the training dogs love by motivating dogs and owners to meet goals and perform. With tricks and games like biscuit balance, musical chairs, round up challenge, and playing possum, you end up with training opportunities like reliable sit-and down-stays. Agility fun such as the jump and short tunnel will be introduced as well. Done with teaching heeling or sit stay? This series can be super amusing and fun for you and your dog. Eligible dogs: Must have completed basic training class here or with another trainer. This class is for friendly, confident, non-reactive dogs. There will be a lot of dogs at this workshop running around off-leash so please do not bring reactive, fearful, unsociable, or antisocial dogs. It would not be fair to other dogs and their owners, and it would not be fair for your dog. This six week class is $95. Adult Dog Training, Level I : March 29-May 3rd Sundays 12:15-1:15 This class is open to dogs age four months or older. This class will provide all the building blocks a dog of any age needs for a foundation of training and attention towards you. This class will show you how to gain your dog’s respect through controlling access to all things dogs love, while rewarding good behavior, and teaches obedience cues. Have an older dog? No problem! Training needs to be improved and maintained and is a lifelong activity for both you and your dog, and provides the mental stimulation your dog needs. Six week class is $95. Register online or in person at Middlebury Rec. Dept. Middlebury Area Little League 2015 Baseball and Softball
Middlebury Area Little League is proud to be back for another great year of baseball and softball. We’re very excited to partner this year with the Middlebury Parks and Recreation Department to offer online registration. Registration will open on March 1st, 2015. We’ll also have an in-person sign up on March 10th, 2015 from 5-8 at the Middlebury town gym. Registration will close on April 1st and coaches will contact players about their teams and practice schedules by April 10th. All students in grades K-6 are invited to play. Middlebury Area Little League sponsors 4 league levels: Farm League (ages 4-6) A great first exposure to baseball, Farm League players will meet Saturday mornings to build skills and gain awareness about the games of baseball and softball. The focus is fun and caregivers are asked to remain with their player. Rookie League – (League Ages 6-8) Rookie League teams play an exciting brand of coach-pitch baseball. Teams will generally meet twice a week and will have an additional game a week once the season gets underway. Boys and girls play on the same team and gain skills that will be helpful to everyone at the next level. There is some travel within Addison County. Minors Baseball/Softball (League Ages 8- 10) - This is the first level of player-pitch baseball. Teams will generally practice two or three times a week with one or two games a week once the season begins. There will be some travel, almost all of it within Addison County. Majors Baseball/Softball (League Ages 10 -12) - The highest level of Little League play, players can expect to practice several times a week and play in multiple games per week once the season gets underway. There will be travel, some of it outside of Addison County. To Register: visit Middleburyparksandrec.org For more Information: jp.rees.vt@gmail.com

Middlebury Safe Routes to School Middlebury has been recognized as a gold level partner in Safe Routes to School VT, which encourages walking and biking to school regularly and safely. Students who walk and bike to school tend to arrive ready to learn and be healthier overall. Fewer children being driven to school reduces car congestion and improves air quality. We monitor traffic patterns and student travel behavior, plan activities to teach bike skills and rules of the road, and recommend improvements to roads, parking lots, drop offs, sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic lights, signage, bus routes, bike routes, bike racks, and more as defined in the Middlebury School Transportation Plan at www. maryhoganschool.org. We meet first Wednesday of month at Mary Hogan School. For more information or to help, contact Middlebury Safe Routes to School Coordinator Laura Asermily at lasermily@ yahoo.com or 388-9478.
