February 17th-February 21st • 9am-4pm Daily We have taken our popular summer camp and added snow! Want a healthier alternative for your children instead of sitting in front of the television on February break? Send them to us where they will get to participate in exciting activities such as sledding, snowshoeing, snow soccer and football and the wildly popular prisoner ball. The week will have an Olympic theme to coincide with the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia. The week will be topped off with a field trip to Lake Placid on Friday, where kids will get to watch bobsledding, ride on the gondola to watch ski jumping and the opportunity to skate on the Olympic ice surface. Middlebury Youth Basketball Coaches Wanted!! Who: Girls and Boys in Grades 3-6 Where: Middlebury Municipal Gym When: The annual skills clinic will take place on Friday December 6th from 5:00-6:30pm and practices will begin the week of December 9th. More information about games and tournaments will be available at the clinic and the first week of practice. 5th and 6th Grade Boys will practice either Mondays and Thursdays or Tuesdays and Fridays. The Monday practice will be at 3:30 and the rest will be at 5:00pm. Please let us know if you will need a particular practice time when registering. General Information Mission Statement

The Middlebury Parks & Recreation Department (MPR) shall provide lands, facilities, and services for community members of all ages and all income levels. It shall provide programs for both sport and leisure. The department shall serve as instructor, facilitator, and partner in efforts to promote and improve quality of life for participants. MPR will work with an involved public and business community to provide a healthy and aesthetically pleasing environment with opportunities for cultural growth. The department should be flexible enough to meet the changing needs and tastes of the community, while finding creative ways to deliver recreation programs and facilities that are affordable to the residents of Middlebury.

Go to middleburyparksandrec.org 2. Create Account(located under member login). 3. Enter all primary and secondary guardian info. 4. Use the “add family member” button to add all members of your family. 5. When every member of your household has been added click “Done.” You are now logged in and can register for programs. 6. Write down your login name and password. You only need to create one. TO REGISTER FOR PROGRAMS: 1. Login using username and password. 2. Click “Browse Activities” in the Quick Links Box. 3. Find the type of activity you would like to register for (Soccer, Gymnastics, etc...) and click search. 4. Find the section of the program you would like to register for and click the shopping cart icon located on the left hand side of the screen. (Note: please make sure the program registration is open. There is a green bar that says available next to each section. If the bar is red it means that the program is unavailable to register for at that time. Please pay close attention to registration start dates and times for each program). 5. A green box will pop up one the bottom of the screen, click “enroll now”. When the next page opens choose the family member you would like to enroll in that program. Click “Add to Cart.” 6. Read and agree to the waiver. 7. You now have the option to proceed to checkout or continue shopping(enrolling in more programs). Once you have enrolled in all the programs you wish to, click “proceed to checkout.” 8. Fill out all of the payment information and click “Finish”. A confirmation email will automatically be sent to the email on file. You also have the option to view and print the receipt. If you have any questions about how to register online please call 388-8100 ext 216 or 205 or stop in the Parks and Recreation office and we would be happy to walk you through the steps. REFUND POLICY • Full refunds will be given for all classes cancelled by MPR. • If you need to cancel your registration before the second session of the program, we will refund you a prorated registration fee, minus 10% processing fee, or issue a credit, good for one calendar year, for the full class fee. After the second session is attended, eligibility for a refund is void. • Please be aware that refund requests may take up to 30 days to process. • Refunds will not be issued from a credit. • Refunds will not be issued for programs costing $10 or

Middlebury Snow Bowl Snow School We have a staff of over 40 qualified instructors who are experts in skiing, snowboarding and telemarking. We offer a wide array of packages to suit individuals of different skill, age or special needs. So give us a call and set up a lesson. Whether you’re a first timer who wants to start skiing/riding or an experienced skier/rider who wants to perfect their turns or tour off-piste ungroomed terrain, we will do our best to help you leave a better skier/rider and also do our best to insure that you have a great time out on the snow.

Clinics include lots of mileage with other students of similar age and ability. Unless otherwise noted clinics meet at 1:00 p.m. sharp. Students deemed eligible may use lifts with their name tags from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. surrounding each clinic. Equipment: Can be rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. Program rates for half-day equipment rentals are $10 for ages 10 and younger, $16 for 1113 year-olds, and $25 for 14 & older. Parent Credit: Parents will receive a $15 credit toward any adult program for each of their children registered. Credit will be given on registration day.

Who: Children in Grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade When: Sunday Mornings from 9am-10am starting January 5th (6 weeks) What: Players will receive instruction on basic skills that will help them develop into better basketball players as they move through the youth program. The emphasis will be on having fun and growing their interest in the sport of basketball. The program will be offered free of charge again this year and players can come as many weeks as they would like. No need to register! New Years Eve Fireworks and Ice Skating Presented by American Legion Post 27

Thanks to the generous support from American Legion Post 27 we are pleased to be offering New Year’s Eve fireworks and Ice skating again this year. Fireworks will begin at approximately 7:30pm at the old American Legion site located on Creek Road. At the conclusion of the fireworks show head over to the Memorial Sports Center and enjoy an hour and a half (8-9:30pm) of free ice skating. We look forward to celebrating the New Year with you and your family!

37th Annual Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble Presented by Middlebury Fitness

Sunday November 24th, 2013 • 12pm Please join us for the 37th annual running of the Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble. 5k and 10k scenic options available. Each runner will receive a race T-shirt and bib with a timing chip attached. Prizes for first place finishers in 5 and 10k races (male/female) and top kids finishers under 12. Each runner will also be entered into a raffle to win prizes such as Turkeys, gift certificates and ski passes. We will also be hosting our 2nd annual food drive to benefit the local food shelter. Anyone who donates 2 non-perishable food items or any monetary amount will be entered into a special 2nd chance drawing to win great prizes. Aerial Arts du Cirque - Static Trapeze for Kids! (ages 8-12)

Jan 10 - March 14 Do you like playing on the monkey bars? Have you ever wanted to join the circus? Come and learn how to flip, twist and pose on the static trapeze. You will get strong, flexible, and confident in the air. You will have loads of fun and learn safe and proper techniques for being a trapeze artist. No prior experience required although you will need to be moderately fit (a simple test: hang from a bar for 10 seconds, hold a plank for 30 seconds). Costs: 10 week session $190; Drop-in classes $22 each session Class maximum: 6 people; Class minimum: 3 people Aerial Arts du Cirque - Static Trapeze (ages 13 and up) Jan 12 - March 16 Come join the circus and dance in the air. Middlebury Ski Club The Middlebury Ski Club is excited to offer another winter of alpine ski racing and training. We offer programs for interested skiers from 8 to 18. Those that want to race every weekend and those that just want to ski better and faster are welcome. We ski every weekend and holiday at the Snow Bowl and travel to races throughout mid-Vermont. Come join one of the oldest ski racing programs in Vermont and spend your winter at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl – Where College Champions Ski. Josh Hardt is returning for Fall Fun! Josh will teach kids ages 6 – 12 about identifying animal and bird tracks in the Vermont outdoors. Local tracker, naturalist, and wilderness explorer, Josh Hardt, will offer general animal track identification skills, tips on interpreting animal behaviors from tracks and other signs, and guidance on observation techniques. Josh has taught for the Nature Conservancy, Mooslamoo, Otter Valley High School and has several outdoor teaching certifications. Wrestlers may sign up (if not already signed up at the Town or on-line) and receive their season startup paperwork (detailed calendar schedule and list of practice locations for the season) on January 21 and January 23 in the MUHS Wrestling Room between 5:30 and 6:15pm. Practices start the week of January 27, 2014. Grades K-2 season ends April 4, 2014. Grades 3-6 season ends April 11, 2014 MAWA Cubs (K-1) Practices will normally be from 5:45 to 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays MAWA Tigers (2-6) Practices will normally be from 6:30 to 7:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Monday night practice times will vary. Final practice schedule to be provided at the January 21 and January 23 season startup meetings. Tuesday and Thursday practices will normally be held in the Mary Hogan North Gym (but occasionally in the MUHS Wrestling Room). Monday practices will typically be held in the MUHS Wrestling Room. Open to boys and girls in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Participants will learn wrestling techniques and improve coordination, balance, strength, physical fitness, and self-confidence. Wrestling will be taught through games, drills, and situation scrimmaging. Wrestlers can compete in tournaments and meets against other teams throughout Vermont, but competition is optional. MAWA Cubs (K-1) Fees are $30 for Middlebury residents and $35 for out-of-town. MAWA Tigers (2-6) Fees are $35 for Middlebury residents and $40 for out-of-town. A $5 per wrestler discount will apply for siblings.

Aikido is a martial art and ethical training created by Morehei Ueshiba (1883-1969). The self defense techniques practiced in Aikido teach us, in an experiential and physical way, the power of harmony which can transcend and eradicate violence. Aikido practice develops agility, awareness, and strength; deepens concentration, and encourages relaxation. Aikido practice challenges each practitioner to realize his or her potential as a “powerful, compassionate, creative, self-aware human being.” Winter Introduction to Aikido Series Feb. 18 thru Mar. 13.
