C & J RED ANGUS PRODUCTION SALE

SALE TERMS & CONDITIONS BREEDING SOUNDNESS EXAM Breeding soundness screenings will be performed in November before the sale. We fully guarantee that these bulls will pass the breeding soundness evaluation before the breeding season in 2024 if the bulls are managed properly. Part of being maintained properly means being on a plane of nutrition where bulls maintain or gain weight. The bulls will be weighed the week prior to the sale when the breeding soundness evaluation is done. We recommend that all bulls be tested 4 to 6 weeks prior to your breeding season. Our guarantee will require that the bull weigh the same or more than when we did the breeding soundness evaluation in November 2023. We ask for your understanding if a bull does not pass. Sometimes bulls that have passed do not pass later for various reasons. We will do our best to make sure you are satisfied. Keep in mind that the development of any bull is inhibited by inadequate nutrition. If you have any questions regarding breeding soundness evaluation, please feel free to contact Keith Merritt. Any bull that either: i. Settles one-third or more of the healthy cows he serves. ii. Is the sire of 20 or more animals. iii. Settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during any six-month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 10.b. of “Options and Privileges of Return or Adjustment,” this section) shall be considered a breeder.

BIRTH WEIGHTS / CALVING EASE SCORE We score for calving ease with our three star (*) scoring system. Three stars (***)indicates that a particular bull can be used on heifers under standard conditions with little or no calving difficulty. Two stars (**) indicates that a particular bull should be used on growthy heifers or cows under standard conditions with little or no difficulty. One star (*) indicates that a particular bull should be used on cows under standard conditions with little or no difficulty. This recommendation is a system we use to help customers with calving ease selections. Research has indicated that Birth weights are highly affected by environmental factors. Research has indicated that the inclusion of corn in cow diets will increase BW. Also contributing to higher BW the inclusion of corn in cow diets will increase BW. The University of Nebraska conducted a three-year study to research and evaluate effects of high and low temperatures during winter months on calves out of 384 two-year-old heifers. Average BW increased by 11 pounds on calves out of 384 two-year-old heifer when temperatures were colder. The results agree with other studies comparing calves born in the southern US to calves born in the northern US. Weather plays an important role in BW and calving difficulty. We have adjusted the calving ease scores accordingly, taking into consideration what the calf ratio on BW, pedigree, CE EPD, BW EPD and Genomic data.

HEALTH All calves are weighed, tagged and given Calf Guard vaccine orally at birth. At one week of age they are vaccinated with Bovilis Nasagen3 intra-nasally. At 3 months of age they given Bovilis Vista Once PMH SQ. At 205 days of age they are given Bovilis Vista 5VL5 SQ CFP and Calvary 9 then 2-3 weeks later they are re-vaccinated. At one year of they are given boosters of the above mentioned vaccines then yearly afterwards, They are dewormed 4 times a year rotating between different dewormers.

OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing either within six months of the sale date or not later than six months after the animal reaches 18 months of age, with the exception of claims involving defects of parentage. b. In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the farm/ranch of the Seller if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of the Seller’s state. The Seller shall be entitled to six months trial following the return of the animal in which to prove the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months the Seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the Seller, at the option of the Buyer, shall replace the animal with another of equal value or refund the purchase price. The return of the full purchase price shall in any case be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. Any expenses incurred for transporting an animal claimed to be a non-breeder shall be the responsibility of the Buyer; except that the Seller shall be responsible for transportation cost in the excess of the distance between the Buyer’s farm/ranch and the location where the sale took place. If the Seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the Buyer to take delivery of the animal and pay all expenses incurred for transportation.

GENETIC DEFECT AND PARENTAGE GUARANTEE The parentage of all animals sold by the Seller is guaranteed to the extent that the animal is by the sire and out of the dam that is indicated on its registration papers. b. All test results confirming an animal’s genetic defect status must be disclosed to potential buyers prior to that animal’s sale. c. All cattle have met the RAAA requirements for registration as pertaining to genetic defects. In particular, animals containing a known genetic defect carrier in their two generation pedigree (parent or grandparent) without an intervening tested free animal have been tested for said genetic defect.

Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).

GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).

CED .......Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)

CEM ...... Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value)

BW ........Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value)

STAY......Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value)

WW .......Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value) YW ........Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value) ADG .......Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value) DMI .......Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value) MILK .....Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. (Pounds/High Value) ME ........Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintence energy requirements. (Mcal per Month/Low Value)

MARB .... Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. (Marbling Score Units/High Value) YG ......... Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. (Yield Grade Units/Low Value) CW ........ Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight. (Pounds/High Value) REA ....... Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.(Square Inches/High Value) FAT........Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs. (Inches/Low Value)

HPG .......Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding. (Percent/High Value)

Research Validates Red Angus as Most-Favored Female Ranchers across the country have long recognized the value of Red Angus females as the foundation of a profitable cowherd. Now, independent research validates those years of cattle production experience with tangible data proving the Red Angus heifer’s worth. Research Confirmation Esther McCabe, et al., of Kansas State University, led a study that conrmed Red Angus are the most-favored female in the industry. McCabe and her team compiled ve years’ worth of pricing data from Superior Livestock Auction, comparing 13,804 lots of heifer calves totaling over 1.2 million head that sold in 116 video auctions.

Rancher Trusted While market research validates the price advantage of Red Angus heifers, ranchers have tested and trusted her worth on the range for years. Red Angus females are desirable as replacement heifers because they mature into productive mother cows that reward producers with extra dollars in their pockets on sale day.

The research team evaluated the effects of independent variables on the sale price of heifer calves that fell into six different breed composition groups: English, English crosses, English-Continental crosses, Black Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, Red Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, and Brahmaninuenced.

Red Angus cows have gained ranchers’ trust as a complete package through fertility, eshing ability, good disposition, longevity and excellent overall production. They produce feeder calves that earn premiums in the yard and on the rail through docility, feed efciency, conversion and carcass merit.

They deduced that Red Angus-sired heifer calves bring $5 to $9 more per hundredweight than all other breed types.

Over the years, stockmen have voted with their checkbooks, purchasing heifers they know will bring protability to their ranching businesses – and Red Angus females are their most-favored choice. ■

Independent research studying five years of Superior Livestock Auction data confirms the value of Red Angus replacement females. Red Angus Stockyard List or locate quality Red Angus replacement females at stockyard.redangus.org. Over 20,000 head of cattle are sold each year through the Red Angus Stockyard. NOTES

Build a better cowherd with stronger selection tools

By testing commercial females, cattlemen can make improved selection decisions, targeting performance and herd-quality goals. Red Navigator DNA test provides: • Parentage (if sire is DNA tested) • Genetic assessment for each RAAA EPD trait • Most accurate results on commercial females that are 75% or more Red Angus

Take your herd to the next level: 1. Contact RAAA to order test kits. 2. Collect samples: Blood or tissue samples required for testing. 3. Submit DNA samples and payment to RAAA. 4. Receive DNA test results in approximately three weeks. 5. Receive personal consultation on the DNA results with a member of the Red Angus Commercial Marketing Team.

Order test kits by contacting the DNA Department:

Alana Skelton, DNA programs coordinator

Sydney Williams, DNA customer service specialist

PARAMOUNT Authenticate your Red Angus genetics.

Now is a paramount time to verify your genetics in the Feeder Calf Certification Program. The Red Angus Live Animal Specification, recognized by the USDA, acknowledges Red Angus are genetically Angus and meet requirements to be included in many Angus branded-beef programs.

Capitalize on Red Angusbased opportunities. Visit RedAngus.org

Congratulations on your bull purchase! Welcome to the Red Angus family. If this is your first purchase of Red Angus genetics, we hope you find the addition to your breeding program a move in a positive direction. Research has shown that Red Angussired calves are more in demand than ever before! Steers – and maybe more importantly their heifer mates – continue to be sought after in the marketplace with buyers willing to pay a premium for these genetics.

The Feeder Calf Certification Program (FCCP) is the cornerstone of the Red Angus Association of America’s marketing programs. At the core of the FCCP is genetic verification with the ability to provide age and source information. The bright yellow FCCP tag clearly tells the world that the calf is a minimum of 50 percent Red Angus, and thus could be identified for extra premiums on sale day. Who doesn’t want more money?

If you are a repeat customer, we appreciate your dedication and are pleased that the cattle are making a profitable difference in your breeding program.

Ready to sign up? The process is simple and affordable, with no enrollment fee and a cost of only 99 cents per tag. See the back of this flyer for details and steps to enroll.

Enroll your calves today in FCCP!

Transfer every bull. Your seedstock supplier should transfer every bull you purchase into your RAAA herd inventory. This is a key step because the FCCP is based on the use of registered Red Angus bulls. Visit with your genetic suppliers to confirm they transfer your new bulls into your operation’s name. Did you purchase Red Angus semen? An invoice detailing that purchase will be necessary to complete a tag purchase. Make sure you keep a copy of this information to submit to the FCCP tag coordinator when enrolling. Did you buy heifers bred to a Red Angus bull? Calves out of commercial heifers bred to registered Red Angus bulls also qualify for the FCCP program, but ONLY if the seller completes the

purchased bred commercial female form. This form is the key component in enrolling the resulting calves into the FCCP. Ask your supplier to assist with this form, which is available on RedAngus.org. Ready to purchase FCCP tags? RAAA dedicates two full-time staff members to coordinating the FCCP program. To order tags for your upcoming calf crop, the process is simple, but does require contacting the RAAA office. After answering a few questions regarding your management practices and genetics, an FCCP tag order will be placed on your behalf. It is imperative that the calves be tagged at the ranch of origin. The FCCP program has been a widely used third-party verified program for more than 25 years. We are excited to assist you on boosting your return on investment with Red Angus genetics.

Feeder Calf Certification Program & Allied Access Enrollment Checklist Red Angus Marketing Programs have been delivering results for nearly two decades, combining the value of superior genetics with access to export markets and premium product lines, while allowing Red Angus customers to build strong reputations. The Feeder Calf Certification Program (FCCP) was the industry’s original USDA Process Verified Genetic, Source and Age Verification program. Allied Access (AA) provides solutions for crossbreeding programs by delivering source & age verification, without the genetic restriction. AA delivers the flexibility for Red Angus customers using multi-breed rotations, hybrids or composites to capture heterosis.

Contact RAAA and answer a few simple questions. The evaluation takes approximately 15 minutes and there is NO ENROLLMENT FEE. For AI-sired calves, provide receipts of semen purchases/collections. In the case of purchased bred females, a signed invoice/bill of sale stating the number of head & breeding status (including service sires). Upon completing the evaluation, tamper-proof tags will be shipped to the ranch in bundles of 25. Either visual (dangle) tags costing 99 cents each, EID only buttons that cost $2 each or a correlating combination visual tag w/ button & RFID w/ button priced at $3 each. Customers have the option to add management numbers, 840 compliance or a line of text to the tag. Tag calves at anytime – birth, branding, preconditioning, weaning – but they must be tagged before they leave the ranch of origin. Leftover ear tags can be used on the next enrolled calf crop. After calves are tagged, return the Enrollment Agreement along with a copy of the first page of your calving record to RAAA. The Enrollment Agreement is mailed when the tags are shipped to the ranch and is available online at: RedAngus.org/marketing. RAAA mails a COC after the Enrollment Agreement and first page of your calving record have been processed. Additional copies of COCs can be sent to buyers, feedyards, livestock markets, etc. All COCs are available online at RedAngus.org via the ASV Tag Search tab.

A new arrangement between the Red Angus Association of America and IMI Global, a division of Where Food Comes From, Inc., will allow cattle producers who take advantage of Red Angus value-added programs to more easily utilize IMI Global verification services. Cattle producers who enroll in Red Angus value-added programs will now have the capability to start the application process for IMI Global claims on the same phone call, saving valuable time and streamlining the enrollment process. Because the FCCP is already providing verification for age, source and genetics, producers who enroll calves in the program can use the same program-compliant EID as the identifier for Red Angus and IMI Global programs.
