Andrew Mcclelland & Martine Wengrow The Ver y Model o f a Moder n Major Musical Presented by Andrew McClelland & Martine Wengrow
What is the show about? Andrew foolishly spent 2020 writing a full-length, full-cast comic operetta based on the musical clichés and ridiculous plots of Gilbert & Sullivan (but with the pesky sexism and colonialism removed). At three hours and a cost of millions, that show will never be produced, but that isn’t stopping him! Joined by his over-talented, ever-eager accompanist, Martine Wengrow, Andrew is determined to bring his musical vision to life. This loving spin on G&S tells the tale of a lovelorn corporate law-firm IT department seeking unlikely glory in their inter-firm, intra-gender footy comp and it’s bloody tops comedy/music fun."
Venue Rhino Room - Upstairs Lvl 1, 131 Pirie St, Adelaide (enter from Pirie Street)
Dates and Times Tue 15 - Fri 18 Mar: 6pm
Ticket Price $28.50 - $38
@AndrewMcClellandGigs
Why should you see it? This show is perfect for lovers of music and/or comedy and musical comedy. Andrew has written and performed 16 festival shows, received rave reviews all over the world and been awarded Melbourne Comedy Festival’s coveted Comedians’ Choice Award and Sydney Comedy Festival’s Jury Prize. Martine is a properly brilliant conductor, arranger and performer and has toured all over Australia with countless professional musicals. “Clever musical arrangement, strong vocals and McClelland’s high-spirited hamminess only adds to the hilarity in an hour of musical comedy that even the most exacting purist will concede gives Gilbert & Sullivan an outrageously silly modern gloss.” – Cameron Woodhead, The Age

She was an audience favourite of the Take 3 comedy troupe, she smashed the 2021 Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, and was invited to perform at the Rhino Room Late Show. Since then she hasn’t looked back, and is fast becoming the darling of the Sydney comedy scene. "The undisputed star is Boyle. I've planted a garden. Not a metaphoric one, a real one. But also a metaphoric one and now its time to sit back and enjoy the crop. This is a show with jokes in it. Are lots of them about plants? Yes, but not all of them. I've put down a lot of roots over the past year and now I'm well... Rooted If you've ever bought new undies at Coles rather than doing the washing then this is the show for you. Bring a cutting of a variegated Monstera and you get in free**
Why should you see it? Emily Grace is a staple of the local comedy scene. She is very funny, very relatable, very entertaining and very sure of herself. From humble beginnings of trying out the Open Mic night at The Rhino Room and scoring an occasional spot on Friday Night at The Rhino Room, she has built herself up to the grand heights of helping to Run the Open Mic Night at The Rhino Room and Occasionally hosting Friday Nights at The Rhino Room. She is performing her show at, you guessed it The Rhino Room! (Well downstairs in the smaller hotter kitchen)

What is the show about? This is a demeaning exercise. After four decades as a leading comic provocateur, an endless originator, a ceaseless font of wonder, a generous collaborator, an unrelentingly creative spirit and a rolled gold feckin’ legend I have to pen some puff piece about my next miracle? Join the dots, follow the path people, look at the history of the fella – DAAS, GNW, MOSH, The Sideshow, Triple J with Mikey Robins, GUD, Paul + Gatesy, Plus One. I mean, f***, has there ever been anyone more consistent?

@YoungMasterPaul
So come/don’t come. Let’s stop playing games.
Why should you see it? Maybe you shouldn’t. Maybe this show isn’t for you. Maybe you’d be better suited to something slower paced, with mimes or jugglers? Or a liturgical dance extravaganza with happy clappers bringing you to Jesus? Maybe magic is your thing. I don’t know you. But, I do know that many people don’t find the earthy musing of a rapidly-aging, self-absorbed narcissist engaging. However, if two Covid survivors (the Plague Doctor and the Meadow Lark), free associating while making sweet sickening sounds attacking anti-vaxxers, Hillsong, social hierarchies and authoritarianism is your groove… then maybe… just maybe…
