The Land Yacht Houses Project This project was commissioned by Mr. Hinkley of the Art District in Downtown Benton Harbor. The site was once a canal and I wanted to paid tribute to it. I designed one to two bedroom homes in the shape of boats. The structure is timber frame with wood and corrugated metal framing. I wanted the people who lived in the homes to feel like they were on water without bring in water. Therefore, I used a blue bush called lithodora diffusa. They grow up to 12 in and turn sea blue during the summer time. Since, it turns blue during a certain period. I suggested that there could be a festival called “Ocean on land similar to the cherry blossom in Washington D.C. At the festival, artist could showcase their work. And the front section of the home artist who live in the house could showcase the work in the window.

The Purpose Of The Houses On Hinkley St: The row of houses are located in the Art district. The houses were designed with artist/creators in mind. Nonetheless, it will still fit the needs of whoever rents/ owns them. the balcony in the top floor also serves for creator’s signage. The perspective show the section of the house which has versatility to either be a living room for a family or gallery for an artist. It’s all dependent upon the occupant.

Battle Creek Log Cabin Sense the excitement of that special day in July, 1852 when David and Olive Hewitt’s lives were changed by a sudden knock at the door, leading to an all day Bible Study with Captain Joseph Bates. This event resulted in David Hewitt, the most honest man in town, becoming the first Adventist convert in Battle Creek. As a result, the log cabin was built and named after him
