team goals
1 Establish a cohesive pedestrian infrastructure for the heart of campus, anticipating the establishment of the Edward St. John’s Teaching Center and the WMATA Purple Line. 2 Aesthetically and programmatically embrace the continuing urbanization around campus in response to the development of East Campus. 3 Introduce and showcase sustainable practices, thereby becoming a model for the local community and beyond.

LOWER MALL
• Introduce a design that reflects the university’s goal to embrace both urbanization and respect for the environment. • Extend the architectural stream by adding two new portions to the existing fountain to provide a more interactive experience. • Create a more serene and inviting environment by adding small trees to provide shade while preserving the overall openness of the Mall.

EAST CAMPUS ENTRANCE
• Provide a stately pedestrian entrance into campus directly connecting to the highly commercialized East Campus development. • Continue the theme of urbanization through the use of artistic, subtle lighting that does not disrupt the stately appearance of the entrance but reflects its connection to the new urban center of campus. • Low, brick retaining walls to contain formal decorative planting that doubles as seating for students or visitors.

GHOST GREENHOUSE Evergreen Museum & Library Project duration: November 2011 - October 2012 Exhibit dates: May 13, 2012 - September 30, 2012 Client: James Archer Abbott, Director & Curator
premise
Explore the idea of the landscape being a laboratory for creativity and eventually develop a design concept for a landscape installation at Evergreen Museum & Library in Baltimore.
process
I was intrigued by the abandoned, overgrown site where greenhouses once stood. I decided to design an installation that would be an echo of the site’s former identity - thus creating the “ghost” concept. My original concept called for multiple arbors and later three greenhouse structures, and underneath each would be a garden contrasting with the surrounding overgrowth and emphasizing the haunted, ghostly nature of the installation. In Spring 2012, this design was chosen to be among the repertoire of designs to be built for the “Sculpture at Evergreen 7” series. In changing and refining of the design, the number of greenhouses was reduced to one to create a more powerful statement. Planting design and selection as well as construction of all installations took place that spring. A total of 10 out of 18 designs were featured in the exhibit.
