We engage local experts from the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service to interpret, narrate, and share dinner. In the case of the Park Ranger in Glacier Bay National Park, the ranger is with us overnight. U.S. Forest Service wilderness rangers sometimes kayak right up to our yachts in areas such as Endicott Arm to hop aboard to talk about natural history and their own special bond with the land. Discoverers’ Glacier Country 2007 Departures & Prices 8 Days/7 Nights — Roundtrip Juneau, Alaska

In Southeast Alaska, our yachts meander through the largest national forest in the United States - home to grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and wolves. On our way to view Alaska's massive glaciers, we enter some of the world's deepest fjords to hike and kayak while other vessels' guests stay shipside.

Day 1 (Fri.) Arrive in Juneau, Alaska – Embarkation

Upon arrival you will be transferred from the airport to board the yacht. Your crew greets you with champagne and smiles, and we’ll cruise to a secluded wilderness anchorage this evening.

Days 2-3 (Sat./Sun.) Glacier Bay National Park

Over the two days in the park we’ll travel nearly 60 miles cruising up-bay to Grand Pacific and Margerie Glaciers, which frequently calve huge icebergs into the bay. If conditions permit, we'll lower the inflatable and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. We'll enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings paddling our kayaks in the quiet of this majestic wilderness. And what will we find? Here in the bay there are puffins and sea lions, mountain goats and bears, moose, eagles, and scenery more spectacular than any place on earth. Glacier Bay is at its best when explored by small groups on a nimble yacht over the course of two days to hike and kayak inside the bay and wilderness areas.

Day 4 (Mon.) Icy Strait

During today's ultimate day of exploration, there's no agenda to follow except to experience every moment scouring the nutrient-rich waters in search for humpbacks, porpoise, sea lions and other wildlife. Marvel at the grand scenery of the Alaskan wilderness as our crew expertly guides us through those "not in the guide book" areas that only the locals know. Join the Captain on the bridge or out on deck in search for marine mammals. Late afternoon, we'll have the opportunity to drop the skiffs and kayaks to further explore the shoreline of a remote bay. The afternoon and evening will be spent at Point Adolphus, Alaska's most famous humpback whale feeding area. Be on the watch for the telltale blow of humpback whales as we cruise through Icy Strait. Before retiring for the evening enjoy the wilderness solitude while relaxing in the upper deck hot tub or enjoy a nightcap with your fellow yachtmates in the salon.

Day 5 (Tues.) Pavlof Harbor and the Waterfall Coast

Our crew expertly guides us through those “not in the guide book” areas that all the locals know. We’ll spend the morning cruising the waters where an array of marine wildlife feed and frolic. Later, we hike Lake Pavlof Trail at Pavlof Harbor and we’ll drop the kayaks and skiff for a closer inspection of the remote coastline.

Throughout the afternoon we’ll keep a sharp eye out for humpback whales. Our next destination is Kasnyku Bay on Baranof Island along Chatham Strait. Once anchored, we’ll explore by kayak and skiff in this majestic, unspoiled corner of Southeast Alaska before setting off for Takatz Bay for our evening anchorage.

Day 6 (Wed.) Frederick Sound and Sea Lions

Today we’ll cruise around wilderness Admiralty Island to more prime humpbackviewing waters in Frederick Sound. Here is an outstanding opportunity to spot the huge brown – or grizzly – bears for which Admiralty Island is famous. We’ll take time for skiff operations and sea kayaking in Saginaw Bay and cruise up-close to a sea lion colony at the Brothers Islands. Tonight we'll anchor in a remote and picturesque bay.

Day 7 (Thurs.) Ford’s Terror and Endicott Arm

Cliff-walled fjords sliced into the mountainous mainland are on tap today as we tuck into an area widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in all of Alaska. Snow gleams on mountaintops high overhead as bears amble on the shoreline and mountain goats cling to impossibly precarious perches. Seemingly every few hundred yards another sparkling waterfall tumbles down the cliffs. Enjoy a skiff ride at Ford’s Terror, named after an early mariner who was somewhat taken aback when a waterfall appeared at the turn of the tide where none had been visible at high tide. We’ll anchor overnight at Taku Harbor to enjoy the Captain’s Farewell Dinner in an utterly lovely setting.

Day 8 (Fri.) Disembark in Juneau, Alaska

After breakfast we’ll arrive in Juneau. A transfer to the Juneau airport or local hotel is included. Safe travels to all!

The Famed Inside Passage 15 Days/14 Nights — Seattle, Washington to Juneau, Alaska (or reverse) Experience the full length of the West Coast of North America’s Inside Passage without the open ocean, but with shores ever-so-tight to the sides of your yacht for most of the 900 nautical miles between Seattle and Juneau. Embrace exhilarating closeness to snow-capped mountains, wildlife and birds far too numerous to keep count, waterfalls, tree-lined narrow passageways and surprises at just about every “gunkholing” turn.

Day 1 Sail from Seattle, Washington

Transfer to your yacht where your crew greets you with champagne and hors d’oeuvres. We’ll cruise north toward our serene anchorage this evening.

Day 2 The San Juan Islands and Friday Harbor

Settle into the rhythm of the sea as we leave our busy lives behind. We’ll wander through the hundreds of untouched islands in the San Juans, then take a couple of hours to stroll through the “boater’s haven” of Friday Harbor, Washington. Visit the intriguing Whale Museum, or have a look at the many boutique shops in this tiny town. We’ll depart for Canadian waters this afternoon, all eyes open for orca whales, and anchor in a quiet bay this evening.

Days 3-6 Exploring the Canadian Inside Passage

Search for orca whales, seals, sea lions and bears as we leave civilization behind. Farther north, learn about local wildlife and fisheries studies, including little-known details on rainforest wolves and the mysterious Spirit bear. Investigate long-abandoned “boom town” communities safely from your yacht’s decks as aging buildings slip inexorably toward the sea. Listen as your Expedition Leader/Naturalist relates lively stories about the once vibrant shore-perched towns.

Day 7 Ketchikan, Alaska

Discover the rich, cultural heritage of Alaska’s Tlingit Indians on a guided tour or Saxman Totem Village with local village resident Joe Williams. Before we depart, take time to browse shops or stroll along Creek Street where there’s often a good dose of local color to be found.

Day 8 Alaskan Waterways

Open space and solitude greet us as we cruise north. Canoe Pass and other secluded, narrow passages are ours to intimately explore today. Your Captain knows exactly where the “dream” coves are hidden away. Our unstructured schedule allows great opportunities to search for one of nature’s most spectacular sights – humpback whales lunging out of the water in multi-ton unison to feed on masses of herring.

Day 9 Petersburg, Alaska

Petersburg’s Norwegian history is quite prominent throughout the community, and we’ll have some first-hand experiences of the local culture before we depart. This afternoon, we’ll enter some of the richest whale waters in Southeast Alaska, and we’ll be watching for the familiar blows of humpback whales all day!

Days 10-12 Fjords and Hotsprings

We’ll spend these three days in the wildest, most pristine corners of Alaska. We’ll paddle our kayaks in remote fjords, hike to natural hotsprings, wander through the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska, and explore some of the most scenic, hidden gems one can find in the Inside Passage.

Days 13-14 Glacier Bay National Park

One of America’s crown-jewel national parks will be ours to explore and marvel at for the next two days. Tidewater glaciers sweep like rivers of ice down massive mountain valleys, terminating before us in the waters of Glacier Bay. If conditions permit, we’ll lower the inflatable and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. We’ll enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings paddling our kayaks in the quiet of this majestic wilderness. And what will we find? Quite possibly we’ll see puffins, sea lions, mountain goats, bears, moose, eagles, and scenery more spectacular than any place on earth. To top off our trip, we’ll celebrate and reminisce together during our festive Farewell Dinner.

Day 15 Disembark in Juneau, Alaska

After breakfast we’ll arrive in Juneau. A transfer to the Juneau airport or local hotel is included. Safe travels to all!

May and September are excellent times for cruising along British Columbia’s coast and Alaska’s Inside Passage. At these times of the year the foliage is in vivid color, there are fewer boats and people. The value is extraordinary and the daily encounters with nature are astounding!

Located in the middle of the Humpback National Marine Sanctuary between Moloka’i, Lana’i and Maui, this maritime tropical wonderland offers front-row seats to the breeding grounds for humpback whales and other myriad marine wildlife. Early this morning we’ll anchor in Hale ‘o’ Lono Harbor to explore Moloka’i as you like: hike the switchbacks of the Kalaupapa Trail or ride on a surefooted mule (optional); bike around the island; join a local guide for a hike in untouched Mo’omomi Preserve; kayak; and, end your day under the stars onboard the Safari Explorer for a relaxed time to “talk story” with an engaging local guest.

Day 3 Moloka’i – The Traditional Isle

Breakfast brings us to the Kaunakakai dock for a second day to meet the people of Moloka’i and experience their land and traditions as few visitors ever do. Today’s destination is the picture book Halawa Valley. Several hands-on activities await: hike with Lawrence through his land to a hideaway waterfall; learn about the history and archaeology of this ancient homeland on a guided walk; join Uncle Anakala and his ‘ohana to restore taro terraces and pause for a refreshing brunch; help ready poi for tonight’s Pa’ina (local feast); spend leisure time back in Kaunakakai. Early evening, venture to Uncle Herb’s ancient fishpond. Watch or lend a hand to net fish for the shoreside Pa’ina which is followed by a homestyle Hawaiian music “jam” session.

Day 4 Lana’i – The Private Island

On Lana’i, steep rock faces line many protected coves. We’ll cruise by white-sand beaches to Nanahoa where we will anchor close to the ancient volcanic plugs sitting both above and below the water surface. Choose snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, motor launch exploration and other water activities. This afternoon we will be underway again to Manele Bay for more activities: hiking, biking, a leisurely nature walk, and for golfers, a chance to play either The Challenge at Manele or The Experience at Koele (optional).

Day 5 Marine Wildlife; East Maui; Molokini

It’s time to be on deck for whale sightings in one of Hawaii’s prime humpback locations. Later we’ll go ashore and explore secluded beaches and bays. Hike on the Laparuse Trail (King’s Highway) to view ancient Hawaiian ruins. Keep your eyes on the water for dolphins. Golfers can play a round of golf (optional). Later, we’ll anchor off the back side of Molokini, an almost submerged crater off the coast of Maui. Here we’ll have the rare opportunity to experience night snorkeling and scuba diving (optional) to view multitudes of fish and even harmless sharks.

Day 6 Coastal Adventures; The Big Island

This morning we approach the Big Island’s southern coast. En route we search for dolphins, whales and even the elusive whale shark. At the edge around Ka Lae (southernmost tip of the United States), we stop at Black Sands Beach. If conditions allow, we’ll look for active lava flows into the ocean. We hug the coast northward, passing by the sacred Place of Refuge to Kealakekua Bay. A snorkeling excursion in the bay reveals a diversity of colorful corals, sea turtles, sponges and tropical fishes. Go ashore at the very place where Captain Cook died in battle.

Day 7 The Big Island – Historical Sights

We set sail this morning for the Kohala Coast. At Kailua-Kona there is an opportunity to join an historic walking tour of the town of Kailua and the gallery-rich village of Holualoa. For those so inclined, an (optional) heli-tour is available to view remote waterfalls and Kilauea’s caldera. Deep-sea fishing can be arranged. Early this evening we are underway to an offshore location where we hope to have the opportunity to swim with Great Pacific Manta rays.

Day 8 Disembark

Aloha! As the Safari Explorer docks north of Kailua-Kona, we’ll transfer you to the Kona Airport or to your hotel to begin your post cruise extension.

Days 2-4 Moloka’i – The Traditional Isle

Over the next several days, we explore the leeward shores of Moloka’i to view adult humpbacks that may have been observed by Safari Explorer guests during the summer months in Southeast Alaska. After months of gorging on herring and krill in Alaska, humpbacks make the long journey to the warm waters of Hawaii to reproduce. We anchor in Hale ‘o’ Lono Harbor where you can enjoy your first of many opportunities to explore the surrounding waters and shores via kayaks, inflatable launches, sail boats, stand-up paddle boards, snorkeling, swimming or guided hiking. Also, this area is known for some of the best mountain biking trails in Hawaii. Other guided activities include nature hikes into sand dunes and beachcombing. Later, we dock at Kaunakakai to meet the people of Moloka’i in their main community and to venture into the countryside on guided hikes - even the ultimate hike down and back up the 3 miles of 26 switchbacks which make up the Kalaupapa Trail. Or you may choose to ride mule back instead as sure-footed animals descend the 1,700 feet of the steepest island cliffs in the world (optional). At the bottom, learn about Father Damien’s humanitarian work in this remote sanctuary. A round of golf can be arranged as well as visit to the Molokai Coffee Company’s plantation. We meet several of Moloka’i’s close-knit families in the historic Halawa Valley to experience the land and traditions as few visitors ever do. Day 7 Marine Mammal Search

The Safari Explorer’s Captain, who calls Hawaii his home, uses his first-hand knowledge as well as that of Hawaii-based Expedition Leaders/Naturalists to take you to the best spots to observe humpbacks, seals and spinner dolphins or perhaps one or more of the other 12 species of toothed dolphins found in Hawaiian waters. Listen for the sounds of the humpback via submerged hydrophones. At anchor, snorkel with sea turtles and the tremendous colorful variety of underwater creatures. Or you might choose to relax inside as bow-mounted underwater cameras bring the action to you on the big screen TV.

Days 8-10 Coastal Adventures; The Big Island

The Big Island of Hawaii is our island paradise for the next three days. Vast, rural and remote, Hawaii Island’s southernmost region, Kau, seems almost untouched by civilization. We start our in-depth exploration at Ka Lae, also known as South Point, the southern most point in the United States. It is believed that the first Polynesians to arrive in the Hawaiian Islands disembarked here at Ka Lae somewhere between 400 and 800 A.D. Ka Lae has been designated a National Historical Landmark due to the archaeological ruins and artifacts found here. By skiff we can take a closer look at the effects of the lava flows which have been generated by Kilauea. Continuing up the coast, we may visit Punaluu Black Sand Beach’s jet black shores. Coconut palms fringe the upper edge of sand and you may also discover large honu, or Hawaiian Green Sea turtles, basking on the beach. At Kailua-Kona there is an opportunity to join an historic walking tour of the town of Kailua and the gallery-rich village of Holualoa. For those so inclined, an (optional) heli-tour is available to view remote waterfalls and Kilauea’s caldera. Deepsea fishing can be arranged. Our last evening, we are underway to an offshore location where we’ll have the opportunity to swim with Great Pacific Manta rays.

Aquarium of the World 8 Days/7 Nights — Roundtrip La Paz, Baja California, Sur By luxury yacht, kayak, motorized skiff and on foot, encounter flora and fauna that are found nowhere else in the world. In this World Heritage biosphere reserve, experience pods of dolphins numbering in the thousands and view many whale species including the largest living being on earth - the blue whale. Day 1 (Sat.) Arrive in La Paz, Baja California – Embarkation You will be met at the airport and transferred to board the Safari Quest.

Day 2 (Sun.) Isla Partida and Beach Activities

We’ll cruise to Ensenada Grande, a lovely cove on Isla Partida with a lovely crescent beach at its head. This afternoon we’ll explore the rocky coastline by skiff and kayak, slip into the crystal-clear water for swimming and snorkeling, or take a guided hike into the interior of the island, which abounds in exotic desert cacti and succulents.

Day 3 (Mon.) Whale Watching

Watch for flying manta rays, pods of dolphins and blue, fin, sei, orca and sperm whales as they spout and dive in the surrounding waters. Watch also for blue-footed boobies, pelicans and cormorants.

Day 4 (Tues.) The Nature of the Sea of Cortés Exploration

In order to get the maximum benefit from visiting this spectacular area, we’ll focus on whale watching in the Sea of Cortés. Join the Captain on the bridge as we search for pods of dolphins along with the many species of whales found within the Sea of Cortés. Keep your binoculars at hand to spot an array of birds on the colorful rocks, in flight or on the water. If conditions permit, we’ll drop anchor in a remote cove for snorkeling, kayaking and beachcombing.

Day 5 (Wed.) Bahia Aqua Verde Mule Ride

This morning we’ll search for whales and dolphins. Then we’ll enter Bahia Agua Verde, whose green, clear waters are bordered by craggy peaks. For a true taste of adventure, join your yachtmates on a mule trail ride into the arroyos of the peninsula. Converse with a local ranchero and his family while you explore canyons, enjoy scenic vistas and experience the breathtaking sights of the “real Baja.”

Day 6 (Thurs.) Isla Coyote (Isla San Jose)

We’ll step ashore on the only permanently inhabited island in the Sea of Cortés. The islet is only about 200 yards in diameter and is home to twenty members of the Cuevas family. The tiny village community consists of about ten buildings that include homes for different branches of the family, a small chapel, and a one-room schoolhouse with

two desks and a chalkboard. A unique aspect beyond the weathered structures is a whale bone yard where enormous vertebrae are scattered piecemeal for an up-close investigation. During our visit we’ll enjoy conversations with this remarkable group of people who make their living as fishermen “in the middle of nowhere.” Later, we’ll experience a guided hike among a forest of the world’s tallest cactus, the cardón. View a mangrove-lined lagoon that borders gentle, white sand dunes and untracked beaches. Paddle with your Expedition Leader through the narrow lagoon for a closer look at these tenacious trees of the sea. This evening we’ll anchor in a pristine bay.

Day 7 (Fri.) Los Islotes; Isla San Francisco

At Isla San Francisco enjoy a guided hike along a hook-shaped ridge, or perhaps kayak or snorkel in the protected crystalline waters. Just north of Isla Partida we’ll pull close to Los Islotes, a steep rocky outcropping leaping straight from the sea. Observe a sea lion colony from the yacht and launch, or slip into a wetsuit to snorkel with agile young sea lions. Swim through a rock arch where orange fan and white fire coral sway in the current, while high overhead, brown and blue-footed boobies perch on the cliffs. Later, we’ll cruise to Isla Espiritu Santo. Enjoy a guided hike along a colorful desert ridge, or perhpas kayak or snorkel in the protected crystalline waters.

Day 8 (Sat.) Disembark in La Paz, Baja California, Sur

After breakfast onboard we’ll bid you “adios.” A transfer to the airport for connections home is included. You may have time for a stroll along the extensive beachfront promenade here in Baja’s most traditional city.

Join your Expedition Leader on deck this morning as we enter the striking Columbia River Gorge. This spectacular canyon cuts the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range and is a designated National Scenic Area. We’ll spend the day exploring the Bonneville Dam, Hood River and the full 80-mile stretch of the Gorge. After dinner a guest speaker will join us for an informative presentation on the local history, and we’ll stay dockside in Hood River for the night.

Day 3 Cruising the Columbia River

We’ll pass through two locks and dams as we cruise east today. The story of the dams along the Columbia and Snake rivers is of great significance to the entire west coast as power for millions of people is generated from them. We’ll have a first-hand look at how these dams have impacted both the natural world and cultural history of the west in the last 75 years.

Day 4 The Washington Wine Country

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before we set off by land for Walla Walla, Washington. We’ll travel to Northstar and Dunham Cellars for exclusive tours and tastings. Later, we’ll cruise to Richland, Washington and welcome a guest speaker who will present the cultural history of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Tonight we’ll stay dockside in Richland, so enjoy an evening stroll along the riverfront before turning in.

Day 5 Birding, Rivers and Historical Confluence

Today we’ll transit through the McNary Dam locks. The McNary Dam encompasses an impressive wildlife region. Keep your eyes peeled and binoculars at hand to see some of the 212 species of migratory birds that rest here en route through the Pacific Fly-way: snow geese, tundra swans, canvasbacks, ring-necked ducks, redheads and many others.

We then pass by Sacajawea State Park and learn about the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s travails and triumphs through this river confluence area. Later, we’ll enter the Snake River where the vast western landscape rolls away toward the horizon.

Day 6 The Palouse Canyon

Enjoy breakfast onboard the yacht, as we cruise the cliff-lined Snake River. We’ll pass through three of the four Snake River dams: Lower Monumental, Little Goose, and Lower Granite. We’ll be on deck with our Expedition Leader as we “lock through,” watching the mechanics of these massive structures. We’ll also anchor in the Palouse River and set off by kayak and skiff for a look at a magnificent canyon formed by Ice-Age floods.

Day 7 Hells Canyon by Jet Boat

We’ll join our Jet Boat Captain this morning for an invigorating excursion into Hells Canyon. Protected as a National Recreation Area since 1975, Hell’s Canyon preserves a world of fascinating natural and cultural elements. Lunch will be included in our excursion, and this afternoon we’ll reboard the yacht where a festive Farewell Dinner awaits.

Day 8 Disembark in Lewiston, Idaho

Your crew serves another excellent breakfast this morning before bidding you “adieu.” At 9:00 am you’ll be transferred to the Lewiston, Idaho, airport for connections home.

Welcome! You will be met at the airport this afternoon and transferred to the yacht. The crew greets you with champagne and hors d’oeuvres. Meet your onboard guest vintner during cocktail hour and be sure to visit the Wine Library after dinner for an introductory wine tasting. Relax on deck and enjoy the sunset as we begin our cruise. To round out the day, slip into the top-deck hot tub before turning in.

Day 2 Hells Canyon by Jet Boat

After breakfast this morning we’ll transfer to a jet boat for an invigorating ride into Hells Canyon. Vertical cliffs carved by the river now hem in the rushing waters that we travel upon, and we’ll watch some of the most dramatic scenery unfold as we jet upriver. We’ll watch for Bighorn sheep and hawks throughout the day. After our excursion we’ll cruise the Snake River, passing through our first lock and dam called Lower Granite. This evening’s dinner is a culinary arts presentation hosted by an accomplished Guest Executive Chef. After dinner our Expedition Leader will provide a brief orientation to the journey.

Day 3 The Palouse Canyon

We’ll pass through the Little Goose lock and dam first thing this morning, then anchor at the mouth of the Palouse River. The kayaks and skiff will be lowered for an up-close exploration of the pristine and lovely Palouse Canyon. Watch for hundreds of cliff swallows that nest on the canyon walls and for Northern harriers and osprey hovering above the still waters as they hunt.

Day 4 Walla Walla Appellation

Travel by executive coach to the Walla Walla appellation. Tour family-owned Dunham Cellars, an unusual winery located in a rustic, remodeled World War II era airplane hangar. Join your winemaker on a private tour and tasting of prized reserve wines such as their exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. As you sip vibrant, aromatic wines surrounded by nostalgic remnants of long ago, you’ll encounter high marks with their consistently award-winning Syrah. A short distance away is Northstar, a unique destination winery known for their ultra-premium Merlot wines. Learn about their handcrafted limited

Day 6 Maryhill Museum and Winery / Columbia Gorge Appellation

We’ll make our way through the John Day Lock and Dam. En route a cooking demonstration with our specially-invited Guest Chef will take place. After lunch we’ll anchor and visit Maryhill Museum followed by a visit to the Maryhill Winery. The museum’s collections are housed in a castle-like chateau situated on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Our winery visit will include a tasting from a special tasting list. Back onboard the yacht, we’ll pass through The Dalles Lock and Dam.

Day 7 Hood River, Bonneville Dam, Columbia River Gorge

This morning, we’ll make a port call at Hood River, the windsurfing capital of the world, to visit the town and browse the boutique shops. Back onboard, join your Expedition Leader on deck as we enter the striking Columbia River Gorge. This spectacular canyon cuts the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range and is a designated National Scenic Area. We’ll leave the yacht for a private tour of the impressive Bonneville Dam, the last dam on the Columbia River as you head west towards the Pacific Ocean. View the massive turbines that produce enormous amounts of hydropower, and step outside to view the fish ladder.

Deposit & Final Payment: Stateroom Booking

A deposit of $1,500 per person is required to secure a reservation. The deposit/payment must be received within three business days of your reservation. Reservations are not confirmed until a deposit is received. The initial deposit is refundable up to 72 hours after payment is received. If you choose to purchase our Travel Protection Plan, the premium payment must be made within 14 calendar days of the initial deposit/payment (see Travel Insurance on this page). Final payment must reach our office 60 days prior to your departure from your home city or in full at the time reservations are confirmed if less than 60 days prior. If this payment is not received in time, your space may be released; rebooking will then be subject to final availability. Deposits and final payments may be made by check, credit card, wire transfer or money order.

Deposit & Final Payment: Private Yacht Charter

For a private yacht charter, a deposit equal to one-third of the total charter cost is due within seven business days of the reservation. At 270 days (9 months) before departure, a second payment equal to one-third of the total charter cost is due. Final payment for a private yacht charter is due 120 days (4 months) prior to departure.

Photographic Images American Safari Cruises takes photographs of nature and various activities during its cruises that sometimes include guests in the shots. Some images are used for promotional purposes at a later time. Guests booking a cruise with American Safari Cruises can notify the Expedition Leader onboard the yacht if they prefer that their image not be used for any promotional purposes. At the end of each cruise, guests receive a complimentary disc of approximately 300 images taken by the crewmembers.

Cancellations

Policy on Children

Guests who must cancel their cruise for any reason, including medical or family reasons, are subject to the following cancellation fees. Please refer to the Travel Insurance section for details on cancellation penalty protection.

Families with children ages 12 and under generally target our select “Kids in Nature” cruises or book a private yacht charter for the whole family. It is the parents’ or guardians’ responsibility to supervise their children at all times.

Travel Information We will e-mail Travel Information, including vouchers for prepaid services, packing recommendations, itinerary, emergency contact numbers and other helpful information approximately two weeks after final payment is received. We also ask that you provide us with flight information as early as possible (and prior to 60 days before departure) in order to secure airportto-yacht/yacht-to-airport transfers. All hikes and walks occurring in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest are permitted by the U.S. Forest Service.

Travel Insurance We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to protect yourself against cancellation penalties and enjoy your trip with complete peace of mind. You will also be covered for losses due to trips cut short by illness or family emergencies or costs of baggage lost or damaged. In order to have the pre-existing medical conditions exclusion waived, this program must be purchased within 14 calendar days of the initial deposit/payment and is not refundable or transferable under any circumstances. Gratuities are a personal matter and are entirely at the discretion of the traveler. Recommended gratuities for excellent service on the cruise are 5-10% of the fare. Gratuities are shared equally by all yacht crewmembers.

Smoking Smoking is allowed only on outside decks away from doors and windows. Smoking is not allowed inside the yachts at any time.

Health and Disability Requirements Guests must notify us in writing at the time of booking of any physical or mental illness, disability or other conditions for which special accommodations or the use of a wheelchair is necessary or contemplated. Also we must be notified of any medical treatment that may render the guest unfit for travel or constitute a risk or danger to the guest or anyone else onboard. Guests needing any form of assistance and those who are physically disabled must be accompanied by someone who will take full responsibility for any needed assistance during the cruise and in the event of an emergency. We reserve the right to refuse passage to anyone who, in our sole opinion, may affect the health, safety or enjoyment of other guests. Guests requiring a wheelchair must provide their own collapsible wheelchair. Please be aware that some ports of call, shore excursions, docks, gangways and other ship requirements may preclude a wheelchair guest from leaving the vessel; this decision will be made by the yacht’s captain and is binding. Additionally, there may be certain physical conditions, including raised doorway thresholds from 2 to 16 inches, stairways and narrow passageways within the yachts that may limit or preclude the accessibility of wheelchair guests to some areas. Due to the limitations of vessel facilities, bookings cannot be accepted for women who will be 30 weeks or more pregnant at the conclusion of travel. Women in their third trimester (greater than 24 weeks, but less than 30 weeks) must submit a letter from their physician granting permission to travel by yacht (and for air travel, if applicable).

What’s the Best Time to Visit Alaska? That question seems to often come up no matter what destination is being considered. With Alaska travel, it’s almost always a question that is not only asked by virtually everyone, but it’s also the first question. Rain, bears, whales, sunlight, temperature, number of people, fishing, snow level, flowers, insects, Northern Lights – how much, how little, how long, where exactly, how thick, what variety, how high/low – these are all key interests for travelers planning an Alaskan vacation. It’s The Big Land, and therefore, there is no “cookie cutter” answer to these curiosities. But we do want to help by providing a guideline or chart as shown below to describe when “skies are most blue” and when salmon change hue.

With American Safari Cruises, weather becomes less of a general concern since we are able to get so close to wildlife, scenery and continually have a hands-on experience throughout our explorations. But if you have certain interests you want to try to maximize by paying attention to annual norms, please peruse the information provided in the chart.
