ADHITYA PANDU PRADANA

Originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, I initiated a small architectural forum in 2008, called DX6, as a media to gather some experience. During the first two years, DX6 won several competitions and actively involved in Architectural scene in Indonesia. As a result, DX6 got featured in 50 Indonesian Architect + Emerging books in 2010.

I continue my study further at Oxford Brookes University in 2013 and obtained Distinction for my final project. I won the prestigious Spratley Studios Prize for the best digital drawing and was shortlisted for Design Engine Architects Prize for best physical model and The West Waddy ADP Prize for best Project which combined architecture and town planning.

Since the late of 2015, I have been working in international retail based architecture practice in London, delivering large scope commercial projects in Europe, Middle East and India. At the beginning of 2018, I have been proactively supporting my team leader & design manager as internal coordinator and maintain high quality standards of project delivery as well as supervising small group of junior team member. I have been working collaboratively within BIM platform with team across different offices and actively supporting technical coordination with clients and local consultants.

With my experiences, I am eager to learn further for senior role along with leading a project and developing my skill in project management in addition to liaise directly with clients, local consultant and stakeholders.

The project derived from the needs of Noida native inhabitant. The residents need a meeting place that could be utilised as a space to learn while at the same time inspiring new curiosity and driving new opportunities to explore and grow. Noida people also aspire to step up with their quality of life and aim to get better and more sophisticated life. In addition, the resident also need a place to recharge their energy after a hectic & stressful weekday. The last one is our meeting place will provide space to offer calmness & peace that were missing from busy daily life.

The site location also affecting the programme since it is in between 2 fast railway lines from and to New Delhi so the place will be a place of confluence, welcoming and bond people together, generating gate as a formal gesture.

In the concept stage, I was involved heavily in layout & form exercise along with design production and presentation preparation, reporting to team leader and design manager.

As a person in charge of the retail layout, my task in DD stage was to make sure that site could accommodate efficient retail scheme while in the same time also using the mall to connect 2 busy stations. I need to make sure that all coordinated layout component reflected in the revit model, supervising small group of team member for layout related design work as well as make sure the required area met. I am also actively supporting Retail Component Leader & Design Manager in liasing and coordination with client and local consultant.

Masterplan: function

Masterplan: commercial function

Lies on a strategic axis of the city development and has an opportunity to be the gateway to the future modern Cairo, the project will set up a benchmark of place-making within an integrated sustainable development that presents new market offers while catering to its current needs.

The project will bring along the vision to enhance the space quality by bringing down the gesture into human scale, activate the public realm by celebrating local arts & culture. In addition, it will actively creating landmark and event space for Cairo inhabitant. New Cairo Mixed-use will also celebrate this by creating walkable environment by promoting health & wellness through its community.

Masterplan: residential

As a person in charge of the residential layout, my task was to make sure that layout satisfy the unit mix required by the client along with maintaining good efficiency for the land use. The layout study was challenging as the client demands a precise minimum dimension that has to be applied in most of the rooms, while we also need to follow local regulation that require a accessible 12.5 m2 shaft to accommodate openings for kitchen and toilet. Thus all studies were done in CAD for precision.

I need to make sure that all coordinated residential layout component reflected in drawings. I am also actively supporting Team Leader & Design Manager in liasing and coordination with client.

Occupying the Western Side of Suez Gulf, and well connected to the capital with new highways, El Galala mountain provides extraordinary opportunities for new residential developments. With the breathtaking views, the location will give its future inhabitants a chance to enjoy life on the highest level and reach their true potential.

The concept derived from idea of living in the clouds and seeking for inhabitants who love to live in a perfect way while maintain high quality of life. The massing inspired by the horizontality and verticality of the mountain and also brought the idea of “frame” as a way to capture the beauty of El Galala Mountain.

The project is unique since the plans & layout were already approved by the authority, so the client asked us to develop only the facade. In this project, I was in charge as a coordinator for Revit production, supervising small number of junior member of team and liaise with our technical director solving technical and construction matter, while also maintaining high stand ard delivery following local regulations. The challenge is we need to deliver the project with the chosen material presented in Revit, lots of tweaks needed to enhance the model.

I Gigli Shopping Centre project is a historic mall strategically located in Campi Bisenzio near Florence. It is an extension of the existing shopping centre which connects the two squares of Corte Tonda and Corte Lunga on the first floor ultimately improving internal circulation and providing new ways to visit and for new services.

These areas, surrounded by greenery offering new services for the public, spaces to relax, co-working areas, restaurants, and a large playground area for children’s entertainment featuring the “Giglisauri”, the key attraction of the intervention. With the integration of the different services and entertainment functions, the renovation aims to bring added value to the current commercial offer.

Some of the essential elements of the new design are the use of natural materials, the integration of greenery, urban design and the feeling of open space, as well as a series of technical lighting interventions to achieve a variety of scenic effects. In this project, I was responsible for Rhino modelling production, liaise with our 3D team, while also need to make sure that the refurbishment done in very efficeient way, preserving the existing as much as we could.

The project is a refurbishment project that was going on at dated shopping mall. The client brief was to create a new facade that could trigger new customer especially youth to visit the mall. The brief to add new facade is challenging since the existing building has long linear facade with only 2 storey so proportionally challenging.

The idea behind this project (selected option) derived from car (automotive) front gesture which strongly associated with symmetrical, metal material, and streamlined movement.

Initially I was part of the design team so heavily involved in brainstorming part and producing exterior & interior sketches. I also develop the idea into 3D model in the next stage. I was actively involved in assisting Team Leader in liaison with lthe client as well as coordination with the 3d rendering team. At later date, I was in charge with direct coordination with the client, supervising small group of junior member along with assisting Design Manager with budget & resources monitoring to maintain efficiency within the project.

Inspiration has been taken from a bamboo forest to create a “Garden in the City” theme. Bamboo, a natural material, is known for its exceptional growth rate and versatility, which directly reflects the unique character of Abu Dhabi and its rapid development on the global stage. The natural reference has been adopted playfully on the building’s distinctive facade through a sequence of vertical green and brown coated aluminium pipes that recall the image of a forest. It is also present inside the building with cafes, bars and restaurants immersed in a green park under one of the region’s largest geodetic skylights, that will ultimately give the whole project an outdoor feel.

I was part of the design team and heavily involved in brainstorming part and producing exterior & interior sketches. I also developed the idea into 3D model in the next stage. I was actively involved in assisting Team Leader in liaison with lthe client as well as coordination with the 3D rendering team. Never Part

DS4 - 1st Project Tutor: Dr Nasser Golzari & Dr Yara Sharif

The Spratley Studios Prize for The Best Digital Drawing (2015)

The first project is a live project which will explore the notions of “displacement and identity”. Using objects/possessions of people or narratives of the individual, the project seeks to question and open up geographical boundaries. The tasks are to design and make devices inspired from the real ‘objects and narratives’ of a diaspora community in Palestine. Working in collaboration with Palestine Museum, the objective is to represent the personal object of a character given by the museum, which will document and share the narratives.

Never Part Continuous: Secret of Digital Garden

Exhibited at Chicago Architecture Biennale (2019) & Berlin Biennale (2020) In collaboration with Shahmer Khan, Dr Nasser Golzari & Dr Yara Sharif

A future imaginary scenario set up in rural Palestine in the form of a garden with 50 flowers representing 50 Palestinian villages: Nothing is conventional in this garden. Not aware whether one is at the scale of the village, the city, or the room, the garden negotiates a new experience within the informal and the periphery that has been created as a result of a fragmented geography; a status of in-betweeness; in between the real and the imaginary, surface and bellow, absurdity and irony, physical and virtual.

The digital garden reclaims some of the 420 villages of today’s Palestine, but also marks and commemorates the 420 Palestinian villages that were razed in 1948. 50 slices of earth containing “digital” flowers have been brought to Chicago & Berlin to narrate this absurd landscape. Capsules containing physical and digital DNA are trapped in each flower to capture and share the story of the 50 Villages project. It may eventually require DNA forensics to reveal the micro objects implanted within each flower. For Palestinians this will be awakened one day. QR codes offer an insight into the digital archive.

In this project, I was in charge to oversee 1:1 model production, creating a prototype for straightforward production & construction at the exhibition, cost effective, while also keeping the idea from original design. I actively.liaise with our 3D team for model production, supervising small amount of team member, as well as supporting the liaison with exhibition technical team and staff. I was also assisting on the budget & resources monitoring to maintain efficiency within the project.

Cultivating Seeds of Possibilities

DS4 - 2nd Project Tutor: Dr Nasser Golzari & Dr Yara Sharif

The Spratley Studios Prize for The Best Digital Drawing (2015)

The second project is the main project of the year, it builds on by the journey across the landscape of Palestine. The objective is to work with live client to create possibilities to heal, empower and stitch the landscape and the fragmented communities. The concept and the brief for the project will emerge out of the journey across the landscape during the field trip, based on personal interest and interaction on site with local community. A process of deconstructing the map and unpacking the context will take place in order to cultivate the possibilities to heal and empower. The exploration also will involve to re-read and re-draw the map by stripping it of the dominant power of lines to expose the hidden dynamic topography created by everyday life.
