Erasmus+ project : “Welcome to my city (CoCi)

Voluntary work with immigrants At our school we have several classes with immigrants qualifying them for attending regular classes at our school or preparing them for their work life in Germany. Often they have problems speaking German and getting in contact with Germans. Therefore we have introduced a project called Language tandem

Erasmus+ project : “Welcome to my city (CoCi)

Students from grade 11 meet students from immigrant classes. In a kick-off event they get to know each other and pair-up, i.e. one German student and one immigrant. They meet every fortnight after school for about an hour and talk about several topics, such as family, friends, traditions, etc.. The immigrant students benefit, as they have face-toface meeting with their German peers, speaking German and getting to know the German culture. Furthermore, they also get some first-hand information about the school they might want to attend afterwards. The German students benefit as they get to know the culture of their immigrant peers. It helps both to overcome prejudices and broadening their horizons. Furthermore, the German students will get a paper certifying their voluntary work.
