Project 1

This project consists of 2 workshops that playing and making of forms with various material.

First workshop starts from locating points and continues in search of projection of line, plane and become volume.

Second workshop starts with exploration with wood blocks in a group. With literary adaptation to “Invisible City”, student learn to create a massing city with the understanding of abstraction and ordering principles

WOODEN BLOCKS

In order to make these 6 blocks, I had to use add and subtract operations.

I use “adding operation” for increasing the height of wood. I stacked layer by layer of wood to get the height that I needed

I use “subtracting operation” for decreasing some part of wood blocks. Some of them were using grading system of subtracting.

WORKSHOP 2

MASSING UP AN INVISIBLE CITIES

THIN CITIES 5

OCTAVIA

Octavia, the spider-web city. The city is over the void between two steep mountains, bounded with chains, ropes, and catwalks. A net serves as passage and foundation of the city. Some things are hung below : cable cars, hangers, hammocks and so on.

COMPLETION OF OCTAVIA

This workshop is a challenging thing to do. We had to make our blocks float in the air. At first, we did not manage to construct the spider-web city, we made it on base instead of floating. At the end, we tried to use drill and satay sticks as connectors each block. We have to out from comfort zone and try new things to represent our city.

Project 2

BODY ARCHITECTURE

In this project, human body’s scale is being used to understand the close-knit relationship of the human’s experience towards space and heightened experience to observe the relativity towards the change of scale.

We have 3 workshops which are creating base form from carboard, developing spatial apparatus through field study and wooden framing

FINAL BASE THAT I USED FOR FIELD STUDY

#1 #2

BLOCKING VIEW

Location : Around Dayabumi complex

Purpose : I want to see AgroBank. So, I decided to add more additional cardboard on upper part of apparatus to make hat and add more layer of cardboards to make wall between my sight

Action : I turned my position 45 degree to the right, so I can see Agro Bank better. Hat and some blocking wall between my sight were made in order to block view from other directions. Thing that similar to hat's function was created to cover my head from sunlight and block the view

Point of View

#1

LEANING ON THE POLE

Location : Near Syarikat Ling&Lee, Fung Keong building

Purpose : Leaning well on the big pole to see column and sign Action : I added a new layer of cardboard and attached on each side edge of my back side of spatial apparatus. Then, I bent the layer depend on the diameter of the pole itself

SITTING WELL, ARMREST & TABLE

Location : In front of Season Point hotel

Purpose : After lunch, we continued walking to next point. But, I was so tired and decided to sit and have a drink for some time

Action : Cut the edge of front’s lower part then bent it as a table that laid on my feet. I cut triangle form from cardboard then attached it on the right side of my spatial apparatus

LEANING ON THE

Location : Near Street Art Cloak Work

Purpose : I wanted to see Merdeka 118 tower but still lean on the wall

Action : I needed a prism on the back with certain degree to face Merdeka 118 tower. There was an addition thing that I attached to my apparatus, it was about blocking view from other directions (front left, front right and front bottom) in order to focus on Merdeka 118 Tower

#4

VIEW

Location : In front of 7-ELEVEN

Purpose : I tried to sit down near the street, give my leg time to rest after walking for whole day and relax my eyes with car that come and go

Action : I took a rectangle form of cardboard, then created a rectangle hole in the middle of it. I attached the modified cardboard on upper part of front side to cover my face.

GETTING GOOD HEAD POSITION

Location : LRT Pasar Seni

Purpose : Adding pillow for my head

Action : I created a pillow from cardboard then attached it on upper part of apparatus’s back side

Project 3

A room to…

Project evolves from P1and locate on P1c massing up an invisible city. Student to explore the design of a single space that fulfilled a traveller ONE need .However in order to accommodate various type of traveller, there are no ONE answer of a single solution to fulfilled the function of the space. A room to. ________ expand the ways of single space usage, delve deeper into various manner/ process of the chosen function to stretch further on how one space could operate. With 6 functions allocated for traveller within an invisible city, traveller is enabled to travel from one point to another while exploring the city, with their movement demarcate themselves a constellation of “living”spaces.

A ROOM TO READ

From internet, “read” has many meanings

VERB : Look at and comprehend the meaning by interpreting the characters

VERB : Discover

VERB : Gain more information

After some time, I found the definition of read. Read for Octavia is to learn from different ways, can be from observation, kinesthetic, discovery and know yourself.

REFLECTION

Project 3 is not a room without any single definition. Project 3 teaches me about design element, anthropometric study, improving drawing and model and presentation skill. Not only that, I learned a bit about site context. I am being asked to go beyond the limit and try new things.

Most of reviewers said that I am a challenger or even risk taker in my presentation. It was not an easy decision to stay and continue my progress in middle without support from my friends and lecturers. I found myself improve in some parts.

Project 3 is more than just a room to complete your semester, it is a room to improve your skill and ability. They did not provide me a room to escape.

I cannot describe my feelings when I made this. Less sleep, feel lost appetite, feel lost. But, I do learn more about time management. Even though, I was tired, I choose to not regret my decisions. Project 1 and 2 also lead me in this journey. I won’t be completed my project 3 without them. Everything is just meaningful and touching me.

I wish I can get more experience in years ahead. Thank you semester 1
