Required student fees include basic fees (charged per credit hour) and student services fees ($394 per semester). These fees are commonly referred to as tuition. The fees above are based on 15 credit hours per semester. The basic fee is $204 per credit hour for Missouri residents.

Institutional Scholarships General policies

The first step in receiving scholarships at Missouri State is being admitted to the University. Applying for institutional scholarships Our top three competitive scholarships, the Presidential, Multicultural Leadership and Hutchens/sga Centennial Leaders, require a specific application that must be submitted by December 1 of your senior year. Application deadlines for other scholarship opportunities will vary. See the summary of freshmen scholarships on the next page for information regarding these scholarships and how to apply. For our automatic scholarships, you need only to submit an application for admission to the University by January 15 if you are entering for the fall semester, or by October 1 if entering for the spring semester.

This guide contains estimates of scholarship values, selection criteria and scholarship eligibility. The University reserves the right to change any of these without notice.

If your high school provides both a weighted and an unweighted gpa, we will use the higher of the two to determine your eligibility for scholarships.

Unless otherwise noted, class percentile and gpa are based on the sixth or seventh semester transcript, whichever is higher.

Students must have a diploma from a high school accredited by the state education agency, a regional accrediting association or a home-school diploma with the core curriculum requirement established by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

Students who are provisionally accepted to the University may not be considered for scholarships.

Scores from the December act/sat are the last to be accepted for most freshmen scholarships (with the exception of the Presidential, the Multicultural Leadership and the Centennial Leaders scholarships, which use an earlier date).

Freshmen scholarships are limited to students who enter Missouri State in the calendar year they graduate from high school. Students who graduate early from high school and attend Missouri State may be considered for freshmen scholarships on an individual basis. Scholarship requirements and deadlines will still apply.

Courses taken at other colleges or universities or credit by examination will not be included in scholarship renewal calculations.

■■

Scholarship recipients who graduate before using their allotted semesters of scholarship eligibility can apply the remaining semester(s) toward a Missouri State University graduate program.

GED students and students admitted as exceptions to the high school core curriculum requirement will not receive scholarships unless approved by a scholarship committee. Formal appeals for special scholarship consideration should be directed to the scholarship appeal committee, Office of Financial Aid.

Unless otherwise noted, scholarships cannot be combined. For scholarships that can be combined, the total combined value cannot exceed $3,500 annually.

Missouri State sat requirements are based on a sum of the Critical Reading and Mathematics sub scores. The Writing score is not included in evaluation.

Important note: It is our intent to award the scholarships with the word "varies" listed under the "number offered" category to all qualified students who apply by the deadline; however, the University reserves the right to limit the number of scholarships based on availability of funding. For this reason, students are encouraged to apply for admission early. The University also reserves the right to reduce the number of other scholarships awarded based on availability of funding.

Entering freshmen must either rank in the top one-half of their class or have a 3.00 gpa on a 4.00 scale after the sixth semester, combined with a composite act of 20 (or sat of 950*). Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

Renewable for one year for students who successfully complete 24 Missouri State hours with a 2.75 Missouri State cumulative grade point average and participate in the Centennial Leaders Program.

Complete application and apply for admission by Dec. 1. Applicants are encouraged to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa).

Entering freshmen must rank either in the upper one-half of their class or have a 3.00 gpa on a 4.00 scale after the sixth semester and have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations. Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.

The Multicultural Leadership Scholarship will require successful completion of 24 Missouri State credit hours each year with a 2.75 Missouri State cumulative grade point average and participation in the Inclusive Excellence Program.

Complete the Multicultural Leadership Application (available in hard copy and online at www.missouristate.edu/ multiculturalapp) and return to the Multicultural Services office.

Students are selected based on financial need and academic potential as demonstrated by a combination of class rank, grade point average and act/sat scores.

Renewable for one year for students who successfully complete 24 Missouri State credit hours with a 2.75 Missouri State grade point average and who continue to demonstrate financial need.

No special application is required.

Apply for admission and complete the FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov) no later than March 31 for the fall semester.

Entering freshmen must complete six or more credit hours through the Missouri State University dual credit program with a cumulative msu grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Renewable for one year for students who successfully complete 30 credit hours at msu during the first year with a 3.00 Missouri State cumulative grade point average.

Eligible student will be identified based on their application credentials.

Apply for admission by June 1 for the fall semester.

Southwest Missouri high schools may recommend one student for every 100 graduates. The southwest district includes schools in the following counties: Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Douglas, Greene, Howell, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Ozark, Polk, Shannon, Stone, Taney, Texas, Vernon, Webster and Wright.

Successfully complete 30 Missouri State hours each year with a 3.25 Missouri State cumulative grade point average.

Schools must submit letters of nomination to the Office of Financial Aid.

Entering freshmen must have both a solid academic record and a strong record of leadership, and must have participated in Missouri Boys State.

This award is nonrenewable.

The scholarship will be the same value as the West Plains scholarship and will be renewed based on msu-West Plains renewal criteria. These scholarships can be combined with the msu-Springfield Community College Scholarship, the Diversity in Education Scholarship for Transfer Students, or the Transfer stem Scholarship to a combined maximum value of $4,500 per year, as well as with any of the out-of-state fee waivers.

Applying for financial aid 1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa). a. Online To submit your fafsa online, visit www.fafsa.gov/. Complete the fafsa in time for it to be received by the processor prior to March 31. Applications will be accepted after this date, but funds may be limited. To make sure your fafsa is sent to Missouri State, you must list Missouri State as one of the schools to receive your results. The Missouri State federal school code is 002503. b. In person The fafsa is available from the Office of Financial Aid or your high school or community college in January of each year. 2. After you submit your application for financial aid, you will be notified that your fafsa was received. This acknowledgement will include your Student Aid Report (sar). Read this information carefully to make sure it is accurate. If it is not, make the necessary corrections and return it to the processor. 3. Federal regulations require Missouri State to verify information reported on the fafsa for randomly selected students. For this reason, some applicants will be required to submit photocopies of their income tax transcripts to the Office of Financial Aid. Using a formula established by Congress, the fafsa determines how much you and your family are expected to provide toward the cost of your education each year. This formula takes into consideration family income and assets, family size, the number of children in college and many other factors to determine your annual Expected Family Contribution (efc). If you feel the information reported on the fafsa does not reflect your family’s true financial situation, contact the Office of Financial Aid for a special circumstances form. 4. After determining your efc, we will calculate your financial aid award. In April, eligible first-time students will receive notice that an online award letter has been created for them. This online award letter will list the types and amount of assistance that can be offered from Missouri State. You must access this award letter via the “My Missouri State” system at Missouri State and either accept or decline the aid offered before your funds will be released. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to remain eligible for aid.

Federal financial aid: need-based Many federal aid programs are available on the basis of financial need (defined as the difference between the amount of money you and your family can contribute toward financing your education and the total cost of attendance). Athletic Scholarships

Cooperative Education Program

This program lets students earn while they learn, integrating academic study with career-related employment. Hundreds of Missouri State students participate in co-op and departmental internships with local, regional and national organizations. Missouri State co-op students often go to work full-time for their co-op employers following graduation.

Private Scholarships

Scholarships from private sources such as civic and professional organizations, businesses and corporations, unions and clubs. Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)

A program of the United States Army designed to recruit and educate commissioned officers. ROTC is an elective part of the college curriculum and interested students earn college credit while they participate. Students are later absorbed into the United States Army. ROTC scholarships may include up to $17,000 toward required student fees per year, a $600 book allowance and a $250 stipend per month. Room and board is not included.

To enroll, obtain an application from your high school counselor and submit it to the U.S. Army Cadet Command before the specified deadline.

Student Employment Services Office

Employment on campus or in the community is available to many Missouri State students.

The University’s Student Employment Services Office helps enrolled students locate jobs. Students may register with this office and be referred to jobs on campus or in the community that are compatible with their schedules and work experience. Approximately 2,000 students work part-time on campus and more than 6,000 hold part-time jobs off campus. The services of this office are free and available throughout the year. Study-Away Loan Programs

Long-term and short-term loan programs to allow students the opportunity to study abroad. Students enrolled in study-away programs that are approved for credit by Missouri State may be eligible to apply federal, state and institutional financial aid toward program costs.

Apply for admission early

You must be admitted to Missouri State University to be considered for scholarships and financial aid. Entering freshmen are encouraged to begin the admission process shortly after the end of their junior year in high school. Entering transfer students are encouraged to begin the admission process at least two semesters before their intended semester of enrollment.

Meet deadlines Searching for, and applying for, financial aid and scholarships can take time. Give yourself plenty of time to complete applications by a specified deadline. MSU’s earliest scholarship deadline is Dec. 1.

Complete the whole application Be sure that you answer every question entirely. Most scholarship committees will not consider incomplete applications.

Take your time and proofread your application

Take ownership Make sure you get your application and any other required documents to the proper location on time. Start a financial aid file to keep a record of all applications you have submitted. Photocopy the applications and any other items you have submitted, especially references in case you need them in the future. If it is an online application, you should get a confirmation response verifying that you completed it. Print the confirmation response for your records.

Complete the FAFSA by our priority deadline The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is an application for federal and state financial aid. The application is available Jan. 1. Missouri State University’s priority deadline is March 31 each year. For maximum consideration, we recommend that you complete the application as soon after Jan. 1 as possible. The application is located at www.fafsa.gov/.

Be careful of SCAMS Never pay money to get money.

If you ask someone to be a reference for you, give that person plenty of time to write the letter. It’s disrespectful to ask that person at the last minute.

Search for outside scholarships In addition to University scholarships, many organizations offer scholarships. Check with your high school counseling office, local and nonlocal businesses and organizations, your or your parents’ workplaces and scholarship search engines for scholarships for which you might be eligible.

Last but not least, BE YOURSELF Committees want to know who you are, what you’ve done and what your goals are for the future. Make them want to give you money to help you achieve your goals. Often, an essay is what helps an applicant stand out.

It’s very important to proofread your work and to have others proofread your work. Look for grammatical errors and misspelled words.
