PROPOSAL SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT AND URBAN REVIVAL Improvements to the river trail, streetscapes, gateways, roads, traffic, pedestrian walkways and crossings as well as new parks, open spaces, and decks and uplifting the slum dwellers


INTENT • Turning the water banks into dynamic and appealing public spaces to establish a certain balance between the stiffness of the built environment and the fluidity of water • Improve pedestrian-oriented infrastructure by making attractive and engaging spaces • Transportation management in the area by reducing the vehicular dominance on the public space and thereby reducing the vehicular and pedestrian conflict

• Kumar Tuli : • Potter’s quarter redevelopment • Activity hubs • Kumar Tuli Ghat : • Improving the public park facilities and allowing the ghats for collecting clay for idol making only and also providing an extended platform for socializing because this ghat tends to get very crowded during Durga puja as well as all along the year. • Providing parking facilities along the stretch and restricting the vehicular movement towards Bag bazaar ferry. • Removal of dumping facilities. • Kashimitra Crematorium : • • • • •

Providing recreational space for the visitors. Treating the building façade of the crematorium. Providing snack shacks and flower market beside the crematorium and the recreational pocket. Restricting vehicular movement. Provision of parking for crematorium purpose

• Stretch from Kashimitra Crematorium to Bag Bazaar Ferry : • Transforming sloped ghats into extended platforms (viewing decks) and providing proper seating spaces with a provision of markets due to the presence of dense vegetation. • Entirely pedestrianized and for relaxation and recreational purpose. • Converting the existing park into a vendor shack by removing them from street.


• Bag bazaar ghat :

• Parking facilities. Two-way movement of vehicles. No public vehicles will be allowed to enter the entire stretch. • Ghats for religious purpose only. • Providing an elevated pedestrian bridge which will connect it to the abandoned space. • Bag bazaar Mayer ghat : • • • •

Redeveloping the ghat as religious ghat. Providing a route to connect it to the community Centre with the elevated pedestrian bridge via steps/ramp. Providing viewing decks. Providing a deck for boat ride.

• Circular canal area : • Developing the abandoned space as a community space which will house a banquet hall, guest rooms and a restaurant/café along with the services. • Connected via 3 mediums : 1. Boat ride service from Kumar Tuli ghat connecting Gopal ghat and Mayer ghat to the end of the river look and then walk towards the space through shaded pavement. 2. Elevated pedestrian bridge which will connect it through the bag bazaar ghat and also will be accessed from Mayer ghat. 3. Accessible via Rabindra Sarani. •

The cart is powered by an automotive battery and all the switches and electrical wiring are kept in the battery compartment of the cart. The wire runs through the battery compartment along the metal frame finally reaching to the light fixtures. The entire cart is made from aluminum and certain parts are covered with wood plastic composite boards to give a wooden finish
