design response the design was conceptualised keeping in focus the mindframe of the people travelling through the local trains to their jobs everyday, so as to take fullest advantage of the site in making it into a beautiful green buffer.the ground was proposed to be painted in beautiful and attractive fluidic forms. the landscape portions were oriented in a way to avoid all the unwanted activities.

HOW THE SHOWROOM CARS ARE CHANGED.

BLUE LINE INDICATES THE PART OF THE SLAB WHICH IS ATTACHED WITH THE HELP OF CABLES TO A PULLEY SYSTEM PLACED IN THE ROOF.

NOW THIS PULLEY SYSTEM IS MOUNTED ON TRACKS ON WHICH THE PULLEY WHEEL ROLES DOWN TO WOUND THE TENSILE CABLES AROUND IT, HENCE LIFTING THE ENTIRE FLOORING SYSTEM UPWARDS.

SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE HELP OF HYDRAULICS A RAMP (INDICATED BY RED LINE)IS PUSHED UP BY 1M JOINING THE BOTTOM SLAB LEVEL.

ICONICDESIGN COMPETITION design brief

was to design an iconic structure in your city.

design response Cricket in India dates back to the country’s independence, such is its historicity. It not only provides great entertainment for its viewers but also is a very prestigious sport for the nation. Yet, this sport does not have a stadium to house its magnanimity. Football stadiums all around the world are known for its architectural marvels. Where do cricket stadiums stand on this platform?

CONCEPT OF ICONISM

Mumbai lies in hot and humid climatic zone where the southern sun is harsh, hence unwanted .

Therefore this design intervention aims to cutoff this direction of sun.

Hence, the southern portion of the structure is pulled up and climatically treated.

The final derivation of the form.

archmedium:MESH design brief MEDELLIN EXPERIMENTAL SOCIAL HOUSING will mainly accommodate a group of homes that take into account the current variety of people or families living in one place (single-parent families, classic families, students, people working from home, etc.). aside from this, new housing will have to offer an important part of public space, viewing this as areas for relating to others and recreation.

design response we propose to regenerate the city through a hybridization of uses in the historic downtown area. currently, the center of the city is mostly given tertiary use (office buildings and commerce). this project revolves around implementing new residential use and reformulating the adjacent public spaces in a way that includes housing. HOLIDAY HOME IN KARJAT PROCESS

design brief was to design a weekend home. The house design would be an expression of the client’s, and his/her family’s character as individuals and a family as a whole. Understanding the client profile briefly would be an important part of this expression. The design would aim at looking beyond the basic space requirements and aim at developing residential “Architecture”.

G-SEN TROPHY, NASA

(2013-14)

about: the G-SEN TROPHY is a design trophy of a national level competition, NASA (National Association of Schools of Architecture). This trophy involves documentation, analysis and redesign with an integrated approach to the design process. It aims to understand and appreciate the existing built form of a building and redesign on that basis satisfying given theme.

theme: CONTEXTUALITY Time, Space & People

role: I was part of the design team, head of the graphics team , and was the audio-visual presentation head.

design brief: The design competition brief uses 3 seemingly unconnected theoretical constructs to present a common thread which may be used to weave a mesh of probable answers in the form of design solutions, to address the enigma of living conditions of the Urban Poor. Architects are programmed to flourish in the “re-invent the wheel” paradigm. Can we take the idea of the “ordinary”, the idea of “Chalega”, the idea of “open source architecture” and improve the lives of people through design solutions which need not go through the creaky machinery of the government and the planning departments? What we need now is to combat the situation with an onslaught of inspired solutions from within the architectural student community (in whose purview this firmly lies). Contextuality is then really a study of who and what we are, as a PEOPLE, and how through design, we can create an ingenious mechanism which will bring about a humane India.

Documentation of a structure designed by NARI GANDHI, madh island

archmedium: SFFDH VIEWS OF DIFFERENT SPACES

design brief: San Francisco today has one of the most prestigious and well equipped fire departments of the United States and the world. ARCHmedium proposes the creation of this fire station for the city of San Francisco that serves not only to centralize and improve the service but also as a gift and token of appreciation from the city to this department. The new center should not only be a practical space designed to respond to the needs of firefighters, but must become an icon of the city which rose from the ashes and a reminder of the tragedy, a building that not only the people of San Francisco but the entire world associates with the image of the fire department. The site chosen to locate the project is situated on the currently unused docks 30-32 of the bay of San Francisco.

a documentary film DABBA SERVICE challenge was to understand the importance of a ‘PROCESS’ by documentation of a process which stands shear impotance in the lives of people. as a response I chose to document one of the most efficient and important processes in the city called DABBA SERVICE. dabba service is a process carried out by a union of dabbawallas or the tiffinwallas. they are known for their efficiency and hence were awarded SIX SIGMA AWARD, by forbes magzine. they hold an error rate of 1 in 2,00,000 dabbas which is truly remarkable.this remarkable process was documented in a form of a movie called DABBA SERVICE.

BASIC DESIGN

challenge of the project was to expand figure on ground and vice versa with a pre-decided proportions to achieve visual balance, hence understanding relationships between negative and positive elements in a composition .

process the exercise involved developing a series of two dimensional compositions with a geometric/ abstract form (the figure) on a base (the ground). this was first done on 2d surface which were then composed on a cube in a way to keep the flow of the form continious.

COMMUNITY CENTER IN HADI design brief was to facilitate with a comunity center to hadi, an island near GOA. This community center would consist of facilities like a school, community kitchen, a public toilet, health care, a gram panchayat office, a bank and a small store catering to basic but essential things. Site was almost in the centre of the island making it easily accessible for the people dwelling on the island.

design brief the design was conceptualised with a crab claw form of orientation of the built masses with a two way acces to the space. Both these entrances were sloped so as to make it easy for the old and the handicapped people to access any desired ammenity. The central core was designed in a way to cater to saabji-mandi in the morning and community seating or community gatherings for rest of the times. All the structual massesare to the periphery of this community space
