Connected City Downtown Dallas, TX Design Problem The challenge was to connect the Dallas downtown core to the Trinity River Project, as well as the west side of Dallas. The underlying issue was the infrastructure that created a barrier between the areas.

1. Central hub development

The solution started with the most pressing issue, the wall of infrastructure. The idea to connect the Trinity River Project was based on utilizing intersecting site lines formed by the existing downtown streets, and using the intersection points as a hub. Sections of the site containing housing, entertainment, and commercial spaces would be located around the central hub forming an integrated solution. The central hub is formed over the infrastructure allowing for pedestrian circulation to and from the Trinity River Project.

Community Field Marfa, TX Design Problem To create a housing solution that not only satisfied the needs of people of Marfa, TX but the community as well.

Design Solution Learning from the historical context of Marfa's community I discovered the 15 untitled works in concrete created by Donald Judd from 1980-1984. The idea of modularity developed by Judd by using a repeating form but also breaking the bounds of uniformity by varying sizes. Furthermore, with Marfa being located in Texas I wanted to provide an innovative solution to passive design due to the extreme heat conditions of the area. With this is mind, I started to create a modular system that was partially constructed below grade to help mitigate the sun's intensity. While developing the enclosure with these concepts in mind I began to create a ribbon type form that seemed as if it were emerging directly from the land instead of creating a disturbance, with respect to the surrounding. Utilizing a ribbon system allowed for walk-able paths and green roofs; taking further advantage of the modular housing below the ribbon system.

Trump International Hotel Chicago, IL Design Problem Trump International Hotel & Tower is working with SOM to further support Trump organization's cutting edge image and provide high quality realty. This particular building is to become a re proposal to the existing Trump International Hotel in Chicago, IL. Trump organization has expressed an interest to develop and manage realty in the area. The new building will serve as a gathering place for both the general public and top-tier individuals for the purpose of supporting the city by supporting a community through the new tower.

Design Solution With developing an understanding of the contextual relationships the site had with its surroundings. One of the most important themes in the design was exploring the promotion of city engagement. This was achieved through recreating a more engaging riverfront plaza along the Chicago River.
