URBAN DESIGN Urban Insert in an obsolete land

01 01 Part of the mill was retained as a shooting spot for movies We attempted to retain the structure as it recalled the history of the site

A public road that passed next to the existing structure as well as connected the mall and office spaces with the rest of the site

Interwoven private and public realms along the nalla form the spine of the site, such that the public may traverse past and across the nalla and experience the multitude of spaces along it

The residential neighbourhood is planned in such a way as to maximize each building’s contact with nature. pedestrian paths connects the different di heirarchies of open spaces

A large part of the OSR was dedicated to highlighting the existing structure, so that a clear visual connection may be maintained from f Dr.Ambedkar road

Amenities include an international school, health care centre, community hall and a few commercial spaces along Cooks Road

The mall and office that overlook the nalla, face the existing building, This creates a thriving potential for activity in between, which acts as the unique selling point for the site

Orange industries play a vital role in integrating the various industries in the surrounding regions namely ply, glass and metal. They cater to the assembling of units pertaining to the above.

Form defining space through axis

Formation of Play areas based on Form, Space and Order Providing a field of safety and vision was the main criteria for the play area. Locating it in the spot area between classes was the ideal position to satisfy those requirements

HOSPITAL Multi-Speciality Hospital Design

03 03 Design and Circulation : After studying the working and importance of the critical floors in an hospital, the main idealogy was to keep the circulation of the Out-patient and Operation Theatre Theat floors simple, flowing, effective and within reach.

HOSPITAL Multi-Speciality Hospital Design

The Floors were designed first with the pre-defined spaces and functions and then fitted to the building, creating a building profile along with effective circulation.

WOW factor be associated in all ways to the building providing a different experience and approach making the building wow along with aircraft’s WOW. The idea was to make an experience at the lower level and upper level. thus making people enjoy the diffferent approach. the columns were to be used at each and every place

- The site is located at porur - the site is opposite chennai trade centre - The site is accessible by national highways for easy carrying and transporting of aircrafts. - The highway can accomodate the containers which bring in the aircraft parts. - The site due to its proximity with chennai trade centre gets advertised

04 04 The First’s category - All iconic aircrafts that were first introduced with the technology and system

- The aircrafts were arranged on a closed loop. - Thus users would have to travel and come back to the start - Equal weightage of aircrafts were given on the to and fro journery. - Show stopping aircrafts ai were placed equally to create enthusiasm and generate interest amongst visitors in the to and fro journey - This circlation pattern included outdoor aircrafts as well - This circulation paved the way to the concept and form for the museum.

Coveted - Most coveted and highly popular aircrafts around the world War-Machines - Those striking fighter/spy planes that created ruckus during the World Wars Civil Tourer - Carrier planes that aided in transportation and touring Record Setters - From making a around the world flight to setting highest altitude, this category includes Record setters around the globe.

Thus the roof was acting as a cover to the circulation and later the experiences were tweaked in to match the aim and mission of the project p Red line - to journey Green line - Fro journey

04 04 The varying heights of the aircrafts also have an impact on the roof height at that area. Thus achieving many ups and downs along the building and creating a feeling of liquidity inside. This varying heights also influences the upper deck as they vary in height along the roof and the height of the aircraft. Thus creating a Rollercoaster kind of Rolle experience while walking the upper deck

04 04 With upper deck

The entrance to the museum is through the basement. Ample car and bike parking provided as per requirements Pedestrians are directed to the basement via an escalator at the plaza At the basement, an informal lobby holds the public serving them drinks and refreshments The main administrative office is also at the basement located adjacent to the lobby.

The museum consists of four types of experience - Ground level - Lowerground level - Outdoor level Once on arrival to ground level, visitors are required to buy tickets and pass through the AFC gates. The most exciting adventure part of this museum is the upper deck. Visitors reach the upper deck level using the central core that also acts as the main structural member.

People are directed to the museum via a ramp that wraps around the IMAX theatre at the ground level revealing peeks of the aircrafts as an user walks the ramp

A new kind of experience unfolds where in one may feel a rollercoaster like ramp with ups, downs and curves with suspended aircrafts.

Arrangement of Elevator for aged people is foreseen

Provisions are made for exit of the upper deck at intervals

A staff-only-link provides p access to the admin area from the lobby

In order to provide a boundary to limit visitors during outdoor aircraft visits, a natural andrelaxing way was developed and hence Earth bern were designed. These berns are at higher heights at the point near to the planes and lower at the service end.

Service roads go around the building and also connect the buildings at intervals where various sizes of aircraft components can be loaded and be assembled inside.

Spaceframe is sandwiched between zinc and aluminium sheets. Thus giving a showroom feel mixed with Hangar feel.
