A tradition of quality at Minster's Jewelers Minster’s Jewelers was founded in July, 1895 by Jacob John Minster in Elkton, Md. Upon arriving in the United States in the 1870s, Jacob John was employed by Bailey, Banks, and Biddle as a watchmaker and jeweler. He believed in quality and integrity. He had a love for jewelery and the craft, which has been carried on through the generations. The third and fourth generations are taking Minster’s in a new direction with Custom Design Jewelry, designed and manufactured by Minster’s staff. It’s a new and original look, with quality to be passed on to future generations, in keeping with the traditional hometown atmosphere. Minster’s offers its clientele a wide range of jewelry, including diamonds, colored gemstones, karat gold, gold filled and silver jewelry, and watches.

Churrascaria Saudades In days of old, in the southernmost state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, cattle grazed the pampas (treeless plains), providing the Gaucho (Southern Brazilian Cowboy) with endless supplies of meat for the now famous tradition of “Churrasco” barbecues. The Gaucho would skewer large pieces of meat and slowly grill them over open-flamed pits. In keeping with this tradition, we bring you Churrascaria Saudades. At Churrascaria Saudades, we proudly keep this churrasco tradition alive with Gaucho chefs roasting the finest cuts of meat over open fire, serving these skewered cuts tableside. A fantastic gourmet salad bar with fresh cut vegetables, a variety of traditional side dishes to compliment the meats, signature cocktails/imported soft drinks, and a dessert menu replete with cakes, fruits, and sweets will round off the unique experience. The poet Goethe once said, “There is no past that we can bring back by longing for it, only the present that builds and creates itself as the past withdraws.” A unique word exists, only in the Brasilian language, that best describes those longings and that word is Saudades. The word Saudade (pronounced: saw’ DA dee, or plural: saw’ DA deez) is the Brasilian word that has no direct translation into English but is most accurately described as a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone. After a unique steak experience, as can only be experienced at Churrascaria Saudades, a guest will go away with a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing to return to the experience, hence the name Saudades. The full dinner experience is $46.00, the Salad Bar Only option is $23, children 6 and under are free, and our young guests ages 7-12 are half price.

Resident Ensemble Players announces 17-18 season and welcomes new resident actor
T
he Resident Ensemble Players, Delaware’s professional resident acting company performing at the University of Delaware, announces a diverse and riveting season full of powerful stories and raucous entertainment. “The REP’s 2017-2018 season includes something for everyone,” says Sanford Robbins, producing artistic director of the REP. “From madcap comedies to suspenseful dramas, from Shakespeare’s delightful tale of mistaken love to the world premiere of a new play written for the REP by one of America’s most gifted young playwrights, this is going to be a dynamite season.” Subscription packages for the REP season offer substantial savings with special subscriber benefits. They can be purchased through the REP box office in the Roselle Center for the Arts in person, by mail, or by phone at (302) 831-2204. Information can be found online at www.rep. udel.edu. Single tickets go on sale on August 14. “We are very excited that two of our plays are co-productions with outstanding regional theatres,” said Robbins. “Twelfth Night is produced in conjunction with New York’s The Acting Company and after closing at the REP, it will move to New York’s esteemed Theatre for a New Audience for a May/June run. A Flea in Her Ear is co-produced with Connecticut’s Westport Country Playhouse and will perform in Westport in July. “We are especially pleased to introduce a new actor to the REP company. Originally from Texas, Antoinette Robinson has performed at a number of regional theatres and Shakespeare festivals across the country, most recently at the Folger Theatre in Washington D.C. She is a talented and versatile actress, equally adept at classic and contemporary work and she will be a wonderful addition to our outstanding acting company.” Kicking off the season is Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop. Dr. Martin Luther King retires to his quiet room in the Lorraine Motel, exhausted after delivering his famous “Mountaintop” speech. A chance meeting with an enthusiastic maid leads him to reflect on his achievements and all the work he has left to do. Directed by Walter Dallas, The Mountaintop runs September 14 through October 8 in the Roselle Center for the Arts’ Studio Theatre. Next door in the Thompson Theatre, the beloved, classic comedy You Can’t Take It with You by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart plays from September 21 through October 8. When the eccentric, rule-defying Sycamore family is introduced to the high society parents of their daughter’s fiancé, it is anything but a quiet evening with the in-laws. Sanford Robbins directs the hilarious and life-affirming romp that is widely regarded as “America’s greatest stage comedy.”
In November, the REP presents the world premiere of From the Author of… written especially for the REP by emerging playwright Chisa Hutchinson. A famous New York author, reeling from disastrous reviews of her new book on homelessness, tries to save face by taking in a street person to rehabilitate. Author is a wickedly blunt, funny, and insightful show that looks at loyalty, responsibility, and who owns whose story. Directed by Jade King Carroll, this play contains adult themes and strong language and runs November 9 through December 3. Things heat up in the winter when Steve Tague directs Dial “M” for Murder by Frederick Knott January 24 through February 4. The basis for Alfred Hitchcock’s famous film of the same name, this griping psychological thriller, called a “holiday for whodunit fans,” will have the audience on the edge of their seats guessing until the curtain falls. In March, things lighten up with the French farce A Flea in Her Ear by Georges Feydeau. Under the direction of Mark Lamos, this bawdy bedroom farce swirls with confused identities and revolving beds and is widely regarded as one of the funniest farces ever written. Performing at the REP March 1 through March 18, this co-production with Connecticut’s Westport Country Playhouse, then travels to their stage in July. Director Maria Aitken returns to the REP to close the season with Shakespeare’s delightful comedy Twelfth Night. This timeless tale of mistaken identity and unrequited love reminds us that love can indeed make fools of us all. A co-production with The Acting Company, the show runs in the Thompson Theatre April 19 through May 6, then transfer to New York City’s Theatre for a New Audience later that month. A complete schedule, directions and information on purchasing tickets can be found at www.rep.udel.edu or by calling the REP box office at 302-831-2204. REP productions are sponsored in part by the Delaware Division of the Arts.
About the REP The Resident Ensemble Players (REP) is a professional theatre company located at the University of Delaware. The REP’s mission is to engage audiences throughout the tri-state region with frequent productions of outstanding classic, modern, and contemporary plays performed in a wide variety of styles that celebrate and demonstrate the range and breadth of each resident actor in this ensemble of nationally respected stage actors who have been trained in the same way. The REP is committed to create future audiences for live theatre by offering its productions at low prices that enable and encourage the attendance of everyone in the region, regardless of income.

Ivy Gables: North Wilmington’s newest Assisted Living Community
Courtesy photos (5)
Nestled on five wooded acres in historic Ardentown, Del., Ivy Gables is North Wilmington’s newest assisted living community. Owners George and Tammy Loudon have 10 years of experience in assisted living ownership, along with a keen eye for elegant living and excellence in care and customer service, and have taken what was once a YWCA, and turned it into this hidden gem. From the moment people walk into the lobby, everyone comments what a warm and welcoming environment the community has. Ivy Gables has 24 studio apartments, as well as some one-bedroom options. There are multiple simple, yet elegant and intimate public areas, as well as a beautiful dining room and Great
Room, both complete with gas fireplaces for an additional warm and home-like atmosphere. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, residents of Ivy Gables are escorted to appointments in style in a London cab. Ivy Gables allows its residents the stress-free environment of both independent and assisted living by offering three restaurant-style meals a day, dedicated arts and entertainment, weekly housecleaning services, weekly linen exchange, daily towel service, and as little or as much handson care needed by its trained staff of compassionate caregivers. Happy hour happens weekly with live entertainment, and across the parking lot, residents are entitled to complimentary shows by the Candlelight Dinner Theatre.
We asked the family of our first resident what their experience has been: “After four months of managing in-home care for our Mom, we decided to look at some assisted living communities in our area. Although very nice, the ones we visited seemed a little overwhelming to Mom. A friend told us about a newly renovated community in Arden that had just re-opened. We decided to check it out. Thus began our love affair with Ivy Gables, a beautifully appointed 24-room senior living community nestled in the community of Ardentown, which just happens to be five minutes from our home. We particularly liked that it was a small community, knowing that it would be more comforting to Mom.
“Of course, what’s a beautiful community without warm and friendly people to bring it to life? The staff at Ivy Gables outshines all of its beautiful appointments! They are top-notch, professional folks who welcomed us and have gone the extra mile to make our Mom (and us) feel at home! Knowing that our Mom is safe and in the hands of such kind and loving folks, has given us such peace of mind!” – Sharon T. Clearly, Ivy Gables has much to offer its residents and their families! If you’d like to speak with someone directly, or schedule a personal tour and lunch, please call Director of Community Relations, Laurie Seidle at 302-475-9400, or email lseidle@ IvyGablesSeniorLiving.com.

Creations Gallery has represented fine craft artisans for 25 years For twenty five years, Creations Gallery has represented fine craft artisans from across the United States and Canada. Opening as Creations Fine Woodworking Gallery in 1992 at the historic Garrett Snuff Mills in Yorklyn, Creations initially featured the work of over fifty regional woodworkers. Over the following years, the gallery relocated to Greenville and ultimately to Hockessin. Through the years, the three-dimensional media focus expanded to include jewelry, ceramics, metal and glass representing a wide selection of hand-crafted gifts, furnishings and accessories for home and office. Functional and artistic woodturnings have always been a focus of the gallery with pieces from Dennis Elliot, Ron Kent, Eric Reeves and Warren Vienneau. Other offerings include steel sculpture by William Wessel, Bill Snell, Fred Conlon, Cricket Forge and Richard Kolb; artglass vases by Mary-Melinda Wellsandt; fused glass clocks by Nina Cambron; perfume bottles by Scott Bayliss; iridescent glass serving platters by Chris Paulson; wood carvings by Paul Sumner, Bruce Stamp and Wendy Lichtensteiger; ceramics by Sara Meadows, Alan Bennett and Georgetown Pottery; wall sculpture in various media by Jerry Krider, Bovano Enamels and Houston LLew and jewelry by Deb Brilla, Ellen Kelly, Judy Goodwin and Shari Dixon. One of the earliest internet sites in the country, going online in 1994, the gallery’s website at www.creationsgallery.com now features a shop-at-home catalog providing free gift wrapping and free shipping anywhere in the country.
