When a group of teenage girls is caught dancing naked in the woods outside of a tiny Puritan town in Massachusetts, an investigation into their adolescent mischief-making derails into madness and hysteria when accusations of witchcraft fly. As the Salem Witch Trials proceed, Miller’s classic drama winds fear, paranoia, lust, and greed into a real American tragedy. Written in 1953 under the shadow of McCarthyism, The Crucible cries out against zealotry, bigotry, and the willingness to turn on another for personal gain in a masterpiece that is a both a gripping historical play and a timely parable for our current society.
The Crucible By Arthur Miller Directed by Ben Barnes Thompson Theatre MAR. 5 - MAR. 22
on page 6 The Civil War is over; the Confederacy has fallen. On theContinued eve of Passover, Caleb, a young Jewish Rebel soldier with a bullet still lodged in his leg, returns to his half-destroyed Virginia home and his family’s former slaves, Simon and John. As the three men wait for others to arrive, they struggle with the new reality of a defeated south, emancipated slaves, and the strange irony of Jewish families being slave owners. As they prepare a simple Seder, long-buried secrets from the past emerge in a dramatic and shocking climax.

Churrascaria Saudades In days of old, in the southernmost state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, cattle grazed the pampas (treeless plains), providing the Gaucho (Southern Brazilian Cowboy) with endless supplies of meat for the now famous tradition of “Churrasco” barbecues. The Gaucho would skewer large pieces of meat and slowly grill them over open-flamed pits. In keeping with this tradition, we bring you Churrascaria Saudades. At Churrascaria Saudades, we proudly keep this churrasco tradition alive with Gaucho chefs roasting the finest cuts of meat over open fire, serving these skewered cuts tableside. A fantastic gourmet salad bar with fresh cut vegetables, a variety of traditional side dishes to compliment the meats, signature cocktails/imported soft drinks, and a dessert menu replete with cakes, fruits, and sweets will round off the unique experience. The poet Goethe once said, “There is no past that we can bring back by longing for it, only the present that builds and creates itself as the past withdraws.” A unique word exists, only in the Brasilian language, that best describes those longings and that word is Saudades. The word Saudade (pronounced: saw’ DA dee, or plural: saw’ DA deez) is the Brasilian word that has no direct translation into English but is most accurately described as a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone. After a unique steak experience, as can only be experienced at Churrascaria Saudades, a guest will go away with a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing to return to the experience, hence the name Saudades. The full dinner experience is $51.00, the Salad Bar Only option is $25.50, children 6 and under are free, and our young guests ages 7-12 are half price.

Varicose Veins & Have you ever wondered what varicose veins actually are and how they come about? When once healthy vein walls become weakened over time, the vein grows in size leaving the valves unable to do their job properly. The vein becomes large and swollen, particularly in the legs, and can lead to symptoms such as itching, swelling, and/or a tired and heavy feeling. In more severe cases, thrombophlebitis can occur. This happens when the blood sits in the large veins because it is not being returned up the leg properly and a clot forms in the superficial veins. Vein disease is progressive and if left untreated, it can lead to chronic swelling, discoloration and venous ulcers. The first line of defense in properly diagnosing varicose
veins is with an ultrasound. The ultrasound will rule out any evidence of thrombus but also look at the superficial veins in detail. The varicose veins are often an issue that is secondary to venous reflux in one of the main superficial veins. Once the problematic vein is identified, a proper treatment plan can be developed. This often involves the closure of any refluxing veins, then focusing on the bulging varicosities that are the result of the severe venous insufficiency. Treatment of varicose veins may be different for each patient. Depending on the size and location of the individual's vein, the doctor will determine which option will be the best fit. The two main treatment options that we offer differ in many aspects. Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy is
February 19, 2020 • CCP • DESTINATION DELAWARE - 17
Treatment Options a minimally invasive procedure that leaves a portion of the work for your body to take care of on it's own. Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a more involved procedure, however, the vein is permanently removed at the time of your visit. Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy is one treatment option which involves the injection of a medication directly into the varicose vein. This medicine will cause the blood within this vessel only to thrombose or clot off. The body's instinct is to then fight this clot, break it up and reabsorb it over time. The medication used is referred to as a sclerosant and different concentrations are used depending on the vein size. Another treatment option is Ambulatory Phlebectomy. This is a procedure that involves multiple small incisions through
which the varicose vein is then removed in sections. This procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed in the comfort of our office. We use local anesthesia and offer the option of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for ambulatory phlebectomies which help to relax the patient for a comfortable experience. We offer free verbal vein screenings each month to allow patients to express their concerns about their veins. This gives patients the opportunity to ask questions which helps us to better navigate you through the process of properly treating your venous insufficiency. Come to one of our FREE vein screenings or call (302) 731-0001 to schedule a free consult today.

OperaDelaware Turns 75 2020 Festival Opens April 25
Lindsay Ohse -- Poppea in The Coronation of Poppea
Daniel Bubeck -- Ottone in The Coronation of Poppea
OperaDelaware’s 2020 Festival, the highlight of the company’s 75th-anniversary season, returns to Wilmington this spring with three exciting productions running April 25 through May 3. A celebration of the beginnings of opera, the height of romantic opera, and the future of opera, the Festival features a Baroque classic, an opéra fantastique and a modern romantic comedy. With more performances on the schedule, three venues to choose from, and repertoire that spans 375 years, this is the perfect time to give opera a try. THE AFFAIR THAT ROCKED ROME The 2020 Festival opens with The Coronation of Poppea, a drama about the scandalous affair between Roman Emperor Nerone and his ambitious mistress, Poppea, who will do anything to become queen. Composed by Claudio Monteverdi, this Baroque masterpiece is one of the first operas based on historical events, but has the shock value and allure of a modern-day Netflix thriller. Soprano Lindsay Ohse who starred in OD’s 2017 production of Semiramide will take on the role of the legendary seductress. Countertenor Daniel Bubeck makes his OperaDelaware debut as Ottone, a nobleman who dares to cross Poppea. Performances will take place in the baby grand in downtown Wilmington.
Kirk Dougherty -Hoffmann in The Tales of Hoffmann
AN OPÉRA FANTASTIQUE The festival’s other mainstage production is Jacques Offenbach’s opéra fantastique, The Tales of Hoffmann which follows a lovelorn poet (based on the German writer E.T.A. Hoffmann) as he drunkenly recalls three doomed romances, including an infatuation with a lifesized doll. Tenor Kirk Dougherty who appeared in the 2018 Festival productions of Gianni Schicchi and Buoso’s Ghost stars in the title role. Veteran director Dean Anthony will lead this much-anticipated production which will take place in Copeland Hall at The Grand in downtown Wilmington. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY FOR THE INSTAGRAM GENERATION The festival’s final offering is Speed Dating Tonight!, a romantic comedy co-created by composer/librettist Michael Ching and director Dean Anthony. This one-act comedy features a series of three-minute speed dates, starring meme-worthy singles looking for love, sex, and everything in between. The unique comedy will take place in the Black Box Theater at OD’s Riverfront Studio which will be staged like a hip downtown bar.

The Candlelight Theatre, Delaware’s first dinner theatre, celebrates 51 years
Show photos by Tisa Della Volpe
The Candlelight Theatre, located in historic Ardentown, Del., a short drive from Chester County, and 10 minutes from downtown Wilmington provides an all-inclusive evening of “Dining and Entertainment, Beyond Your Expectations.” The Candlelight Theatre’s colorful history began in 1931, when a barn in Arden was converted to a theatre and called The Robin Hood Theatre. That was when summer stock theatre came to Delaware, where it remained through the 1950s. In 1969, after 5 months of intensive renovations by a team of hard-working volunteers, the barn was transformed into the “Candlelight Music Dinner Theatre,” Delaware’s 1st Dinner Theatre under the ownership of Julian and Annabelle Borris and John and Lena O'Toole, nurturing the talents of many, including Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman, film star Bruce Willis, and Broadway musical star Diane Fratantoni. In 2006, under Robert Miller and Jody Anderson, TCT became a non-profit and continues the tradition of nurturing young performers and producing six shows annually. Operating as a theater venue for over 75 years, the stage of this quaint barn comes alive every weekend year-round. In addition to musicals, TCT presents events such as a monthly Comedy Club, Just Drag, the annual blues festival, and a variety of cabaret acts. Summer camps are offered in partnership with DelArts Conservatory of Bear, Del., providing education and performance opportunities for ages 6 to 18. Tickets for mainstage musicals are $63 for adults, $33 for children, and include fullcourse buffet and show. Cash bar is available, as well as free parking. Group discounts are available.
