yoga house, portugal Freelance
International competition Hatha is the term that embraces most modern yoga practices. The word “Hatha” is made up of two Sanskrit words: “Ha” can be translated to “sun” and represents daytime, masculine energy, conscious mind, the Yang. “Tha” means “moon” and represents night time, feminine energy, the subconscious mind, the Yin. According to this philosophy, both energies are essential in life and Hatha yoga helps controlling and balancing them. The project is inspired by this duality: Two pavilions with opposite qualities and forms, complementing each other. On the higher terrace, “Ha” hosts the Yoga Sanctuary. Based on simple principles such as order and repetition, light and shadow, this open pavilion allows for establishing a strong connection with nature and the elements surrounding it. On the lower terrace, “Tha” is an enclosed pavilion that houses showers and toilets. It is an introspective and functional building. The use of local and sustainable materials such as cork and wood as well as the non-invasive construction techniques blend the project into the stunning landscape of Vale de Moses.

SENIOR co-living, Galicia Freelance
Residential The project is located in Couso, Campolameiro, a small village in Galicia. The idea was to create a co-living space for the elderly. Small apartments with communal areas where retired people could build a community and enjoy nature. One of the challenges of the project was to create completely accessible spaces on a plot with a significant slope. The main access is situated on the first level where we find the communal areas such as a dining room, library, kitchen, and a small toilet. On the ground level, communicated with a lift and stairs, there are 6 apartments of 50 sqm each. These spaces are flexible and the movables walls allow the bedrooms to be integrated with the dining rooms. The project orientation is east-west in order to ensure the best views and the best natural light. The co-living space is built with local stone and wood.

red bull music academy, madrid Expert course BIM I
Revit These project drawings are the result of a 3 months course, taught by 24 StudioLab in Madrid, that included 90 hours in Revit modeling, 20 hours in data management, 15 in collaborative work, and 15 hours in tutorials. The final project consisted of the representation of plans, sections, elevations, 3D views, details, and schedules of an existing project using only Revit and Enscape. I have chosen the Red Bull Music Academy by Langarita and Navarro. Even if I worked in this office, I wasn´t part of the design team of this building and all the information used was taken from several published magazines. The Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) is a nomadic annual music festival. In 2011 it was installed in Madrid Matadero, a creative space which is located in an early 20th-century industrial warehouse complex. The RBMA is a space specifically dedicated to audio creation and research. The result of this project is an intervention unfolded in the warehouse’s interior in the form of a fragmented urban structure in which the variable relationship between proximity and independence, and preexistence and performance could offer unexpected stages to its community of inhabitants.

EUROPAn lasarte-oria, BIlbao
Competition with Langarita Navarro 2019
Urbanism Lasarte-Oria is an example of what the urbanization of the territory meant because of industrialization: the development of the productive city has been closely linked to the concept of infrastructure with a high negative impact on the territory. We propose a new urban plan based on these strategies: -Maintaining the visual richness of the slopes mountains respecting natural water runoff. -Lifting the built allowing continuity to the landscape and living systems (fauna and flora) that inhabit it, removing barriers and establishing relationship spaces linked to public space. The action of excavation and containment of the terrain on hillsides would be an expensive action with low spatial value and great economic, energy impact, with high CO2 emissions and alteration of groundwater dynamics. -Proposing a generous plan, easily adapted with spaces that can be assigned to homes or used as productive spaces. -The technology of wood construction allows us to produce low-cost quality housing in a sustainable way. -The facade seeks to improve the thermal behavior of the construction and build an enriching experience with the environment.

the cloud tower, calpe
Private project with Langarita Navarro 2019
Residential Calpe tower is located in the comarca of Mariana Alta in the province of Alicante and it has fantastic panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. The project has 34 apartments, spanning 18 levels with four different typologies: one, two, three, and four bedrooms apartments. It has two underground parking levels and a ground floor. The ground floor has a communal space with a swimming pool. On the upper level, the penthouse also has a private swimming pool. The curved shapes of the terraces provide the apartments with great exterior spaces which create a unique and dynamically aesthetic facade. The orthogonal configuration of the rooms is functionally practical, allowing for easy distribution of interior design. Volumetric and materiality studies, the interior-exterior relation, and flexibility of spaces have been at the forefront of the design for this project.

hill house office, archway london
Private project with Hawkins&Brown 2018
Office The site is located in the north of the London Borough of Islington, with neighboring boroughs of Camden and Haringey. Hill House masterplan was developed by Hawkins Brown and it includes the transformation of Hill House tower, several urban interventions and the creation of a residential and an office scheme. The shape of the office scheme is carefully designed to respect views from surrounding buildings. It provides the site with new public spaces and improves access within the existing buildings. -The plinth hosts the services and the affordable office spaces. -In the podium and the tower we can find office/coworking spaces. -On the higher level there is a terrace and a plant room. INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION, LONDON
Private project with Hawkins&Brown 2018
Educational The Institute of Education is a Grade II* listed building designed by architect Sir Denys Lasdun and Partners in the 1960’s. The building is considered an exemplar of Lasdun’s work, characterized by a language of towers and strata, careful detailing, stepping terraces along the west elevation combined with a long solemn concrete, glass and bronze aluminum facade to the main block. The building remains a striking example of new brutalist architecture, made even more powerful by its location within Bloomsbury (London). However, the building and its infrastructure are nearing the end of their serviceable life in their current state. We have been working with UCL and the IOE to create a masterplan that will set out a framework and help unlock the potential of this remarkable building. The team has undertaken an extensive review of the building to understand the challenges and opportunities it presents, and how these could be addressed to better meet the requirements of its staff and students.

GOLDSMITHS STUDENT VILLAGE, london Private project with Hawkins&Brown 2017
Residential This project was appointed by Campus Living Villages, in partnership with the Goldsmiths University of London to reconfigure, renovate and extend three student residential sites encompassing 440 rooms in New Cross and Brockley. The project aims to enhance the experience for Goldsmiths’ students, create a fresh identity, produce new sociable living environments and increase occupancy. The approach focuses on integrating the new buildings into the existing neighborhood contexts and creating contemporary architecture to enhance the locality. Surrey House, which matches brick tones of existing Surrey Old House, cantilevers the main entrance to mark its new presence, whilst being subservient to the existing street. Raymont Hall, located within Brockley conservation area, uses charred timber cladding for the new garden building and the complementary extension to the existing brick building. Accessibility is improved with new step-free entrance ramps. These are integrated with the landscape design of the three sites to create a coherent and unified landscape strategy.

hotel hyatt centric dakar
Private project with Lacaton&Vassal 2016
Residential The city of Dakar is outstanding for its exceptional geographical situation on a peninsula and for its modernity, with an important patrimony of high-quality modern architecture built in the 1950s. The project stands opposite Kermel Market, a historic spot in Dakar city center. It posits a mixed program of retail, leisure facilities, a hotel and events center superimposed on each other from the ground to the fourteenth floor and on top of two basement parking levels. The first four levels occupy the piece of land between Avenue Sarraut and the market square. On the ground floor, retail units, the brasserie at the angle and the hotel lobby create transparency, views and passages to the market from Avenue Sarraut. The restaurant, on the first floor with a vast open terrace, offers a privileged view over the square. Above the fourth floor, the building rises in a bar-shape containing the hotel and the panoramic restaurant. Drawing inspiration from the modern buildings widely constructed in Dakar, the rooms are spacious, almost square, with great openings to a two-meters wide balcony –a veritable extension of the room and casting shadows over the façade- planted with rose-trees or bougainvillea. As a result, all the rooms enjoy a panoramic view of the sea and the city.

RTS RADIO-TV LAUSANNE
Competition with Lacaton&Vassal 2015
Leisure The project is located in Laussane’s university area, next to Sannaa’s Rolex Center. It proposes a free structure, of big capacity which is capable of generating overlapping spaces in a flexible and simple way. The program is organized in 4 levels, all of them, being accessible through a ramps system: - In the intermediate levels (+10 and +19) a “street” of two heights becomes the heart of the project. It consists of the broadcast studios, the restaurant with a terrace, the drafts and the media center. - Level +0, with 10 meters height, shelters the logistic spaces, movement of trucks and machines as well as the big TV studios. - Level +19m offers a great terrace with a view of Lake Leman. It works as a public square and offers different possibilities for exterior events. -The tower placed between levels +23 and +31 gives cover to drafting spaces and guarantees its recognition from the distance.

protestant school in beyrouth
Competition with Lacaton&Vassal 2015
Educational The project for the new Protestant School in Beyrouth proposes one single piece as big as possible, according to urbanist regulations that way extending the surface of the existent garden. The cafeteria is situated on the ground level. Polyvalent rooms, a gym and a swimming pool are connected with a ramp system. The building is open and naturally ventilated. Its design creates an agreeable climate thereby able to use simple technologies. In winter it takes advantage of passive solar radiations and their inertia in whereas in summer a system of solar parasols protects the facades from direct radiations. The outdoor sportive spaces profit from the shadow of the building and they can be used even during the construction period.

winter garden tower switzerland Competition with Lacaton&Vassal 2015
Residential Quality of living spaces, generosity and comfort are determinants for a good quality urban life. The transformation of Chéne-Bourg in Geneva is the opportunity to question the living spaces and the relation to the city. Located in the heart of the new CEVA station, the project takes all the surface, volume and height available on the site. This allows the creation of big spaces: 14 floors (91 apartments 10.668m2) 5 floors with offices (4.9013m2) and an open ground floor for commercial use(347m2). The dwellings are spacious, comfortable, shiny with a double orientation. Although living in a dense urban space giving the feeling of living in a Villa. All the dwellings are provided with winter gardens, a system that creates good weather conditions inside the apartments by being completely open in summer and closed in winter. The simple and flexible structure permits us to generate freedom in functions and possible future transformations. The quality of spaces and freedom of usage offered to the users, the “générosité de l’espace à habiter” are the main ideas of the project.

research university center cayenne Competition with Lacaton&Vassal 2016
Laboratory-Educational The project is located in Cayenne (French Guayen) and is part of the future complex of the city’s local university. The building is divided into 3 different levels: -The first one, more public and destinated to students’ uses is composed of research areas such as chemistry, microbiology laboratories, learning spaces and an amphitheater. -The second one is an open rooftop that includes some researching greenhouses and a palm garden with shadow protectors. Its free surface allows the building to make future extensions. -The third one includes offices and private spaces for teachers. The spatial configuration of the building responds to the country’s weather conditions: high temperatures, big levels of humidity and rain during all the year. The necessity is to create spaces with shadow and allowing the natural wind to pass throughout the building to ventilating all the rooms. These characteristics allow us to define some patterns in the forming of the building. The whole project is one meter elevated from the street level, it is composed of courtyards and it is provided with an empty intermediate level.

nature research center villablino Academic project in ETSAM 2014
Educational The Nature Research Center is located in Laciana’s valley, a region in the North of Leon (Spain). This area is highly valuable in terms of its natural resources and mountains, which are very rich in minerals like coal. It has traditionally been exploited for mining during the last decades and because of that, it has suffered from significant negative environmental impacts. The building site is located in the Coal Washery Plant next to Villablino, a commercial, economic and social center. Within the site, there are 3 old and disused industrial buildings and a large space full of sterile (waste resulting from the separation of coal). My proposal for this center consists of a landscape regeneration that will maintain the original industrial character. This project will relate the agricultural activity and landscape on different scales: with some areas dedicated to the formation, social awareness and research of new ecological systems and other areas dedicated to the reforestation of the surrounding old Open Mines. Also, this proposal will provide a space for temporary residence for scientists. The Nature Research Center is an adaptation exercise, where existing resources are given a new functional role. This regeneration project will be the result of an investigation of coal in ecological, landscape and social scales while setting a center point to solve the environmental problems caused by mining.

sharing=gaining
Student competition in Aarhus School of Architecture 2013
Danish student association This project is an open student competition created by the Danish Student Association. The topic this year was “How can we live closer together?” The movie presented named “Sharing = Gaining” consisted of a reflection about Density in the city: we live very close to our neighbors but, Do we know them?. In the movie, a man and a woman are living next to each other. They live in minimized flats in which they have to share the facilities which nowadays are called a bathroom, kitchen, and toilet. In their apartments, those facilities are reduced to their function and are stored, one next to the other, in a big ‘magic cupboard’ which in that way connects the two apartments. The apartments themselves consist of just one room each. They can transform into several “rooms” by pulling different functions out of the central closet. The result is a visual collage of sketched black-and-white dwelling and colored photos of objects and people that make the story and an auditory collage of realistic sounds that accompany the many everyday actions performed by the characters by using the functional units.

museum of arts and technology Academic project in ETSAM 2013
Exhibition/Research The Tic-Tac building is situated in 22@Barcelona. In this context, the proposal combines the technology of 22@Barcelona with artistic expression. Externally, the building´s form is based on several studies of Cerda´s blocks. These regular blocks are creating an orthogonal grid transformed by the main communications: roads, boulevards, train tracks... A rational grid is transformed by the needs of the city. On a smaller scale, the Tic-Tac Building begins as a solid piece that has been suffering some cuts depending on interior needs, visual relations, lighting strategies and the relation with the train. The building is divided into eleven pieces connected by “programmatic trays”. Because of these platforms, there´s a continuous path that runs through all the buildings with continuity. On the upper floors the functions are getting private hosting offices, and research laboratories. At the same time, the piece that sits next to the preexisting dwellings has more privacy and hosts the library. On the ground floor, there´s a space for commercial uses. On top of some platforms, there are green terraces. These spaces provide continuity to the green boulevard that ends up just next to the building.

puerto rico hurricane relief
Volunteer works with All Hands and Hearts 2019
Construction Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, causing catastrophic damage including the destruction of the electrical grid that had been crippled by Hurricane Irma just two weeks before. It was the worst storm to hit the island in eight decades, and the damage is estimated in the tens of billions of dollars. After landfall, wind gusts of 109 mph (175 km/h) were reported at Yabucoa Harbor and 118 mph (190 km/h) at Camp Santiago. In addition, very heavy rainfall occurred throughout the territory, peaking at 37.9 in (962.7 mm) in Caguas. Widespread flooding affected San Juan, waist-deep in some areas, and numerous structures across the island lost roofs. Our program is based in Yabucoa Municipality, in the south-eastern region of the island, which is where Hurricane Maria first made landfall in Puerto Rico. According to the Mayor in Yabucoa, 1,500 homes in the municipality were affected by the hurricane. Most of the power has been restored in Yabucoa, though volunteers may still encounter homes and worksites with no power or running water.
