Our online distance learning programmes offer you maximum flexibility in your studies and have multiple start points throughout the year. They are delivered through our web-based virtual learning environment (VLE), Moodle – an online classroom. Graduates typically use the programme to help them take the next step on their career pathway. MA Applied Educational Leadership and Management* Designed for leaders and managers in education and government policy, this programme focuses on leadership and management for educational change and improvement, and supports continuing professional development in the education sector. A Development Education M Development education looks at areas such as global citizenship, social justice and sustainable development. The programme is ideal if you already work in

MRes Education and Social Research* This programme teaches quantitative and qualitative research methods for education and social research
M A Geography Education Designed for geography teachers, heads of department and others with an interest in geography education,
this programme looks at areas such as curriculum development, social impact and classroom practice. MA Humanities Education (Citizenship, History, Religious Education) Designed for teachers of history, citizenship or religious education, or those working in educational roles in museums, this programme allows you to focus on one or more humanities discipline to develop an in-depth understanding of the nature and role of humanities in today’s educational environment. MA Inspection and Regulation Focusing on enhancing knowledge of global inspection and regulation models and frameworks, this programme is for professionals working in education or educational inspection and regulation worldwide and is ideal for professional development in this area.
MSc Research for Public Policy and Practice This programme looks at the use of systematic reviews in shaping education policy and practice, and teaches practical research skills to enable graduates to produce and review research in the education sector. It is suitable for researchers and graduates with some experience who wish to pursue their career in this field. Study face-to-face in your home country We teach some of our programmes in countries across the globe, including: MA Lifelong Learning – Singapore and MA Lifelong Learning – Denmark, Spain, Australia This programme is for anyone working in the lifelong learning sector – adult learning, professional, vocational and workplace learning, community or prison learning amongst others – as teachers, trainers, coaches, mentors and managers who wants to develop personally and professionally in this sector. MA Special and Inclusive Education – Egypt This programme, run in partnership with the Learning Resource Centre, Cairo, offers teachers and other education professionals who are working with, or would like to work with children, young people or adults with special educational needs (SEN) an opportunity to develop their professional expertise in this area. Doctor in Education (EdD) (International Dual Award) – UK and Singapore This programme is run in partnership with the National Institute of Education (NIE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. You will take part of the programme in the UK and part in Singapore. This is a great opportunity to add a global perspective to your studies and to gain a dual award from two prestigious international institutions.

MA Leadership - Greece Designed for teacher leaders in Athens College The modules, both core and optional, are taught in Athens and in London during the course of a two-week Summer School, supplemented by online distance learning. International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for schools in India and United Arab Emirates A part-time masters-level programme for inservice teachers to investigate and upgrade their practice, delivered in intensive blocks in-country and complemented by study on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). MTeach - United Arab Emirates A masters level programme for high-performing teachers in schools, allowing them to advance their teaching skills through reflection on personal and professional learning. This is delivered in-country in short teaching blocks and through the VLE.

Assessment Student support Throughout your studies, you’ll have a tutor to guide you and give you feedback on your coursework. Your tutor can be contacted by phone or online. Support is also offered by fellow students and other IOE staff who are part of our online learning community. Our Academic Writing Centre offers students 1-2-1 support by email and online resources to help you with your research and assignment writing skills. The MA is superb, it has really made me question the changing context of inspection and regulation, and the tussle between inspection for accountability and its evolution towards inspection for improvement
Assessment is normally by coursework, submitted online or by post. Some programmes also use examinations for assessment. If you graduate with a masters degree you are invited to attend an IOE graduation ceremony in London.

Technical requirements for online study To study one of our online programmes you must have good internet access, a printer if you want to print out materials (you can, of course, read these on screen) and a computer with these features: A browser installed (we recommend Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 4). This must accept cookies and have JavaScript enabled. (If your computer is part of a network, for example a corporate network, check this with your network administrator.) Live teaching sessions Some of our modules include live teaching sessions – this is the only time where you will need to be at your computer for a certain time.
