MA Leadership - Summer School Summer School (28th July - 1st August 2014) Leading & Managing Change & Improvement This course will equip you with: 1. A body of knowledge: to inform your comparative understanding of management and leadership in a range of educational settings including your own, and to improve your understanding of institutional effectiveness, change and improvement. 2. An understanding of the implications of the devolution of power and resources in your own and other educational institutions. 3. Analytical frameworks and insights from research that will enable you to reflect on key concepts, theories and models of leadership, management, change and improvement and on their application to working environments, including your own. By the time you have completed the course, you will have: • Gained a systematic understanding of the key principles of change and change management. • Understood the connections between change and educational leadership. • Reflected on concepts, analytical frameworks and research related to change and leadership. • Explored the connections between change, culture and trust.

MA Leadership - Summer School Leading and Managing Change and Improvement Summer School This is the core module from our highly successful MA Leadership programme. It is available as a four and a half day summer school. Participants will enjoy a stimulating opportunity to engage with contemporary research and thinking around leadership and also to take time to undertake professional reflection. The Summer School is a significant resource for current leaders, it is also an excellent option for those seeking career advancement. The week is co-lead by the Programme Leader for the MA (L), Max Coates and the IOE’s John Adams Research Fellow, Dr Chris Brown. The week will also include keynote inputs from Professor Peter Earley. This course is offered to: 1. Registered students on the MA Leadership programme to enable them to complete the core module in an intensive period of study. 2. Individuals who wish to experience postgraduate study before committing to a full Masters programme. 3. An education professional who would like to study a stand alone M Level module. Completed assignments would give 30 credits at masters standard. 4. Educational leaders who wish to develop their understanding and performance as leaders without undertaking the assessment. A certificate of completion is awarded at the end of the week. Entry requirements: A minimum of a second class honours degree plus at least two years’ management / leadership experience. Assessment: This is a 5000 word assignment which includes a literature review and professional reflection on a change in which you have been involved.
