PRESIDENT ’ S REPORT MARCH 2012 It ’ s March already, our summer is over and now into autumn. I know some of you are now home and some still away touring and exploring our beautiful country. Looking forward to seeing and hearing from you all about the POPs and DOCs you ’ ve found and anything interesting about freedom camping. Ivy and I are yet to get away for a holiday in our caravan. We also have a new Motor Home in the club. Ruth and Bruce Turner have traded their caravan for one, and are very pleased with it, it ’ s so much easier for Bruce to manage. The Marton Country Music festival rally was a great success, and those who attended have suggested another rally at next years festival. The Ashhurst Domain is a nice place to rally, the facilities were great, also a very popular place to picnic. We are looking forward to rallying at Mangatainoka. Also looking forward to meeting up with all you, and the travellers again soon. Kind regards George
Too cute not to share!! Annie, 6 years old, gets home from school. She had her first family planning lesson at school. Her mother, very interested, asks;" How did it go?" "I died of shame!" she answers. “Mary from over the road, says that the stork brings babies. Jack next door said you can buy babies at the supermarket. Piet in my class says you can buy babies at the hospital.“ Her mother answers laughingly “But that’s no reason to be ashamed?” “No, but I couldn’t tell them that we were so poor that daddy had to make me himself!”
MANGATAI NOKA RALLY REPORT
Present: Marlows, Cotters, Tongs, Greigs, Bowkers, Byers, O'Learys V & B and K & E. The Robinsons and Shaws visited us and took part on the Saturday. The team arrived on the Friday and set-up camp in a carpark at the rear of the Tui Brewery where we had the use of a small Social Hall which included a kitchen, toilets etc. The weather was reasonable in the afternoon so about 6 of us played golf at the Pahiatua Golf Club, (it was good to see Ivy and Diane take part), some visited the Brewery Cafe and this was followed by happy hour and tea in the Social Hall. On the Saturday at 11am most took part in the Brewery Tour followed by lunch in the Cafe - the afternoon was spent relaxing followed by happy hour and an enjoyable pot luck tea. On Sunday at morning tea Larry was presented with the wooden spoon for his earlier episode under the Toki Bridge and George the fork for breaking a golf rule. Larry's "farting machine" caused considerable amusement during the misdemeanor session. The raffle was won by Eleanor and Anne and Don the prize for the lucky van. A number of the Group stayed back and attended the concert in the Brewery Garden area and consumed lunch before leaving for home - a bonus was that we had the pleasure of being served by the "Tui Girls". The Group seemed to enjoy the weekend and felt they would be happy to return. Cheers Eleanor and Kevin
The “what “machine? Welcome to Tu i Brwery
I thought you did a magnificent shot on the 3rd!
Well it’s like this ….
THE OPTIONAL RALLY CLAREVILLE SHOWGROUNDS 2ND – 4TH MARCH 2012 The Craigs, Webbs, Greigs and Marlows decided to rally at Clareville despite the weather bomb forecast. Friday we were able to have happy hour outside and were joined by a couple from Auckland who had been to the Rod Stewart concert in Napier the weekend before, where they had met up with the Cotters, a nice friendly couple who fitted into our group really well.Saturday we did experience very heavy rain and strong gale force wind. Webbs awoke to a pool of water around their van, Sandra had to borrow gumboots to get out of the van. The Martinborough Fair was cancelled first time in 35yrs.Craigs decided to stay cosy in the warmth of their van and read, while the rest of us ventured into Masterton. First stop the Warehouse for gumboots then lunch. The town was very busy because the Golden Shears were on. Happy hour in the Greig’s van then a meal at the Carterton RSA. The Auckland couple Verna and Grant joined us well. We had a quick morning tea Sunday because the weather wasn’t looking that good, although the rain and wind had abated Saturday night. We just wanted to get over the Rimutakas in case the wind got up again. The raffle was won by Sandra, and the Webbs also drew the lucky van number. We were charged $20 per night (2 people) the ablution block was very old but clean 6 showers and as many toilets both ladies and gents side. We parked on a grassed area by the lake and hockey ground. Only complaint behind the Makarakapa hedge was the railway line, also a bit of road noise as well. Otherwise it was pleasant place to stay. Happy safe caravanning Ivy and George
Report on Easter Rally to Paekakariki
It was a fantastic weekend for the ‘few’ who attended. The camp was great and the weather was fabulous. Most of the participants arrived early on Friday morning and were joined for morning tea by A vril and Adrian who had stayed Thursday night on the way home from their South Island trip. George and Ivy, Marj and Bert, Bob and Jan attended along with our family and enjoyed a nice afternoon exploring the camp, surrounding beach and park. We were joined by Kevin and Eleanor, John and Joan, Colleen and Keith for happy hour and a good time was had by all. This was followed by a Barbeque using the camp facilities. On Saturday morning we all visited the loc al market and then did our own thing until meeting at the Tram Mus eum for a look around, some people took the tram to the beach and others drove down, where we all had a very enjoyable afternoon tea, enjoying the fantastic scenery. Back at the camp we were joined at happy hour by a few friends Iain, Colleen and Keith. Then we all ventured down to “Fishermans Table”, where we were joined by Kevin and Eleanor. We all enjoyed the great views, a good meal and great company. On Sunday morning we ran the wrap up morning tea as Bob and Jan had to leave early to help wit h the Easter Fair in Foxton, and we were joined by John and Joan. Benjamin Signal was given the wooden spoon for deciding the make a cup of coffee, only problem is he wandered over wit h the electric jug asking where is the cord…. As his mother opened the jug to get the cord out he then said…. Opps… I’ve already filled it with water….. Lucky we had a jug for the gas element. The remaining members enjoy ed walks and bike rides around the camp and surrounding park and beach. Tom and Ben depart ed mid -afternoon as Tom had to work Easter Monday. After a trip down town to get Fish and Chips the remaining members all convened in George and Ivy’s van for tea. Monday arrived and we all packed up to head home, Mum and Dad stayed to help me pack up the tent, which was all going well until my car decided it want ed to stay on holiday for a little longer. I went to back it up to load the tent and it was dead as a Dodo. We borrowed some jumper leads from the camp, but the car would still not start. A quick trip to Coastlands and a new battery later we were finally on our way by lunchtime. It was a quick trip home, however the southbound traffic was bumper to bumper and moving at snails pace at the us ual spots. Happy Camping Leighanne

Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. However, there is most definitely a difference When you marry the right wo man, you are COM PLETE. When you marry the wrong wo man, you are FINISHED. And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COM PLETELY FINISHED!
