OUR HOME-MADE FASHION TERMS GLOSSARY

Ruching material (pronounced /REW shing/)

material that is gathered very tightly together often to hide certain body parts

strapless

A woman’s garment that expose the shoulders and has no shoulder traps.

halter top/strap

A top which have only two, thin straps . They usually secured behind the neck and across the back. Also there is no fabric in the arms, shoulders, upperback securedbehind the neck and across the back, leaving thearms, shoulders, upperback, and often the midriffbare.

pleated

pleated is about a type of fold method that fold a large piece of fabric into a smaller circumstance around the body.

plaid

The pattern is horizontal and vertical lines crossed, in two or more colors.

trim

A decoration at the edge of clothes.

inseam

Inseam is the measurement from the crotch to the ankle bone.

embroidered This silk sleeveless dress is using handicraft and needlework of decorating fabric.

A-line

An A-line skirt is a skirt that is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem, giving the impression of the shape of a capital letter A.

v-neck

a dress or shirt that shows a lot of cleavage

min /maxi

Maxi dress is a floor length or ankle length dress. Mini dress is a above knee length dress.

floor-length

floor-length is that a clothe is reaching the floor.

mid-calf length

Mid-calf length is the middle of the calf; half way between the knee and ankle. (This picture is midcalf length dress.)

sleeveless

A dress or top shirt have no sleeve,expose the shoulders.

gathered

when you pull fabric together either for design effect or to create ruching (see #1)

scoop neck

a neck line that is NOT a V shape and also NOT totally low cut. It’s like a low crew neck- rounded but not too low.

the part of a garment that is just below the neck; sometimes it is decorated
