What To Expect In The Residence Halls Roommates
Before arriving for your first year, you will have the opportunity to go online and choose your own housing space and roommate(s)—perhaps a friend, or someone you make a connection with at Highlander Orientation, or someone you find common ground with during the roommate self-selection process! Or, you can leave your roommate and room assignment to our Housing team and their expertise in working with application preferences.
Even when matched with a student they do not know, the overwhelming majority of residents (more than 97%) report positive roommate experiences. Employing the three C’s — courtesy, communication and compromise — will help you create a successful roommate relationship. Our live-in staff is also available 24/7, if you need help.
We want you to have a great housing experience at UCR, whether you have one roommate or two, or even three.
Triple and Quad (4-person) rooms offer some advantages, including lower costs and the chance to make more friends. On the other hand, you do get a bit less space and privacy.
The fact is, students in Triple and Quad rooms report being overoverwhelmingly satisfied with their living arrangements and, if given the opportunity later, nearly all would choose against moving out of their Triple or Quad and into a Double.
