A LW AY S FIRST TO ARRIVE The Para-Commandos are the US Special Operations Command’s premier aerial parachute demonstration team. They perform at high visibility events across the nation, informing the public about the US Special Operations Command; the command’s mission, and the contributions our 70,000 plus Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Department of Defense Civilians are making across the United States and in more than 70 countries around the globe. The Para-Commandos are members of and representative of today’s Special Operations Forces. The Para-Commandos are comprised of active duty Special Operators, such as Army Special Forces, Army Rangers, Navy SEALs, Air Force Combat Controllers and Marine Raiders. In addition, the Para-Commandos have a number of support personnel, commonly referred to as Special Operations Enablers. Our enablers come from all four services, and include reserve forces as well. The Para-Commandos tailor each performance to the individual venue, and can perform from as low as 2000 feet above ground level to as high as 13,500 feet above ground level. Depending on the venue and time of day, The Para-Commandos may jump flags, smoke, sparklers, or a combination of each into the event. The Para-Commandos are proficient in both free fall and canopy formations; and specialize in landing on time and on target in front of the crowd!

S P E A K S O F T LY BUT CARRY A BIG STICK The A-10 Thunderbolt II is the first Air Force aircraft specially designed for close air support of ground forces. They are simple, quiet, effective and survivable twin-engine jet aircraft. The A-10 can be used against all ground targets, including tanks and other armored vehicles using its nose-mounted GAU-8/A 30mm cannon, capable of firing 3,900 rounds per minute. Produced by Fairchild Republic Company, the first A-10A was delivered in 1975. Today, the A-10C Thunderbolt II continues to play a pivotal role for the United States military with excellent maneuverability at low air speeds and altitude solidifying itself as a highly accurate and survivable weapons-delivery platform for the modern world. The aircraft can loiter near battle areas for extended periods of time and operate in low ceiling and visibility conditions. The wide combat radius and short takeoff and landing capability permit operations in and out of locations near front lines. Thunderbolt IIs have Night Vision Imaging Systems, or NVIS, goggle compatible single-seat cockpits forward of their wings and a large bubble canopy which provides pilots all-around vision. The pilots are protected by titanium armor that also protects parts of the flight-control system. The redundant primary structural sections allow the aircraft to enjoy better survivability during close air support than did previous aircraft. The aircraft can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high explosive projectiles up to 23mm. Their self-sealing fuel cells are protected
In 2005, the entire A-10 fleet began receiving the Precision Engagement upgrades that include an improved fire control system (FCS), electronic countermeasures (ECM), upgraded cockpit displays, the ability to deliver smart bombs, moving map display, hands on throttle and stick, digital stores management, LITENING and Sniper advanced targeting pod integration, situational awareness data link or SADL, and GPS-guided weapons. The entire A-10 fleet has been Precision Engagement modified and now carries the A-10C designation. The Air Combat Command A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team, stationed out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, brings the aircraft to air shows around the country to showcase the unique combat capabilities of the A-10 “Warthog.” They perform precision aerial maneuvers while highlighting the mission and professionalism of the men and women of the United States Air Force.

AMERICAN INGENUITY LIVES
Lockheed Martin received a $7bn five-year contract to maintain the USAF fleet of F-22 Raptor stealth fighters, in December 2019. The F-22 is the world’s most dominant fighter, and potential adversaries continue to develop capabilities intended to challenge the ability of U.S. and allied air forces to gain and maintain air superiority. Lockheed Martin is dedicated to working with the U.S. Air Force on a robust F-22 combat enhancement program to bolster the Raptor’s asymmetric advantage over current and potential adversaries. The capabilities of the F-22 Raptor remain essential to deter and defeat threats and ensure regional and global security well into the future. The Air Combat Command F-22 Demonstration Team at Langley Air Force Base performs precision aerial maneuvers to demonstrate the unique capabilities of the F-22. Maj. Joshua “Cabo” Gunderson The team also flies with Air Force Heritage flight exhibiting Commander/Pilot the professional qualities the Air Force develops in the people who fly, maintain and support these aircraft. U.S. Air Force Maj. Josh Gunderson, the F-22 Demonstration Team pilot and commander, has been flying F-22s since he transitioned from the F-15C Eagle in 2014. The F-22A Raptor is an advanced tactical fighter aircraft developed for the US Air Force (USAF). It entered service with the USAF in December 2005 to replace the F-15, with emphasis on agility, stealth and range. These 5th generation stealth aircraft are the crown jewels in the nation’s military arsenal. The F-22’s primary mission is to secure air superiority — a condition vital for any successful military operation. While the aircraft can also strike targets on the ground with great precision, and conduct intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance inside contested airspace, at its heart the Raptor will remain an air-to-air champion. Because of its vast array of capabilities — not all known — the F-22 is our nation’s greatest conventional deterrent. While the current force size is small relative to other fighter forces, the F-22 has — at a minimum — an order of magnitude greater effect than any other fighter in the world. The F-22 is a fundamentally unique airplane due to the unparalleled integration of stealth, sensor technology, processing power, and unrivaled flight performance. While many fighters have some elements of this mix, none possess the total package afforded by

Search and Rescue (SAR) is one of the Coast Guard’s oldest missions. Minimizing the loss of life, injury, property damage or loss by rendering aid to persons in distress and property in the maritime environment has always been a Coast Guard priority. Coast Guard SAR response involves multi-mission stations, cutters, aircraft and boats linked by communications networks. The National SAR Plan divides the U.S. area of SAR responsibility into internationally recognized inland and maritime SAR regions. The Coast Guard is the Maritime SAR Coordinator.

MOST GLOBAL LIKES The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of singleseat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multi role fighters. The fifth-generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground-attack and air-superiority missions. It has three main models: the F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant, the F-35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant, and the F-35C carrier-based catapultassisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) variant. The U.S. Air Force, the eight international partners, Japan, and Israel are purchasing the CTOL variant. The STOVL variant will be operated by the United States Marine Corps, the UK and Italy. The United States Navy and Marine Corps are purchasing the CV variant. Purchases by the U.S. armed forces and these partner countries combined with foreign military sales are expected to exceed 4,000 total aircraft.

The United States plans to buy 2,663 F-35s, which will provide the bulk of the crewed tactical air power of the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps in coming decades. Deliveries of the F-35 for the U.S. military are scheduled until 2037 with a projected service life up to 2070. Capt. Kristin “BEO” Wolfe, a second-generation fighter pilot and former F-22 pilot, leads the new F-35A Lightning demonstration team. After commissioning, Wolfe attended undergraduate pilot Capt. Kristin Wolf training at Laughlin AFB, Texas, where she learned the meaning of Commander/Pilot being an Air Force aviator. “It hit me when I did my first solo flight,” she said. “I remember being terrified that anyone would let me fly an airplane alone after only 11 or 12 rides. It seemed like an insane concept to me. But I realized that’s how the aviation world and the Air Force trains you; to ingrain those habit patterns so that those skills take over. I remember landing and thinking, ‘That was really cool.’” After graduating UPT, Wolfe was selected to fly fighters, eventually graduating to the F-22 Raptor as her first operational aircraft. “I loved flying the F-22, but the F-35 is also a blast to fly” Wolfe said. Wolfe has over 900 total fighter hours in both of the service’s advanced fighter aircraft,

Mike’s passion for aviation started when he was very young. Mike’s Dad took him to his first air show at the age of 10. At 14, he biked to the airport for two weeks and bugged the owner for a job washing aircraft and cleaning hangars just to be around airplanes. In school, Mike had a teacher tell him he would never be a pilot. He traded washing airplanes for flying lessons and received his Pilot’s License on his 17th birthday. Thirty eight years later, Mike has accumulated more than 24,000 flight hours and qualified in more than 40 aircraft. “It is incredible to be part of the Lucas Oil Team. Their products as well as their integrity make what I do even more rewarding.” And, he doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to pass on the gift of encouragement and attitude given to him by all who believe in him. That is why Mike started the “I Can” program.

Mike’s career is a testimony of how dreams can come true. As a 2002 U.S. National Aerobatic Champion, and of the 2004 U.S. Aerobatic Team, Mike traveled the World with the same aircraft you will see him performing in. His excitement for aviation is nothing short of contagious in his attempt to help encourage kids of all ages to live their dreams and never give up! You can live big adventures, follow your passions and do the impossible! It simply begins with two words....... “I Can.”

S TA N D S T R O N G RED, WHITE & BLUE The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, known to all the world as the “Thunderbirds” are the Air Force’s Ambassadors in Blue. They represent the 500,000 men and women of the Unites States Air Force. The Thunderbirds plan and present precision aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of modern, high-performance aircraft and the high degree of professional skill required to operate those aircraft. The Thunderbirds squadron is composed of eight pilots (including six demonstration pilots), four support officers, four civilians and more than 100 enlisted personnel.
The Thunderbirds air demonstration is a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The fourjet diamond formation demonstrates the training and precision of Air Force pilots, while the two solo aircraft highlight some of the extreme capabilities of the F-16. In all, the pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in a single demonstration. An aerial demonstration lasts 60 minutes with an additional 15 minutes for the ground show before takeoff.
During a typical season the Thunderbirds perform no more than 70 air demonstrations in 35 cities throughout the nation. More than 280 million people in all 50 states and 57 foreign countries have seen the red, white and blue Thunderbirds jets. Thunderbirds were officially activated June 1, 1953, as the 3600th Air Demonstration Unit at Luke AFB, Arizona. The unit was nicknamed the “Stardusters.” Their first aircraft was the straight-winged F-84G Thunderjet. The team transitioned to the swept-winged F-84F Thunderstreak in 1955. In June 1956, the team moved to its current home at Nellis AFB in Nevada and traded the veteran F-84 for the world’s first supersonic fighter, the F-100 Super Sabre. In early 1964, the team changed briefly to the F-105B Thunderchief, but after only six shows returned to the F-100. In 1969 the team transitioned to the F-4E Phantom and then in 1974 to the T-38 Talon, a more fuel efficient jet. In 1983 the Thunderbirds began flying the F-16 and continue to do so currently.

The Aero L-39 Albatros is used as an agile jet trainer, tactical reconnaissance aircraft and light ground support fighter. The jet is mostly used to train future pilots of larger aircraft such as the MiG-29 Fulcrum. The Albatros is however still used in many Air Force as an attack aircraft for air to ground support missions or as a tactical reconnaissance aircraft. Since its commissioning in 1971, over 2’800 aircraft have been built in various versions. The L-39 Albatros is a modern jet trainer of the same generation as the F-14 Tomcat or the MiG-23 Flogger and was launched only a short time before the American F-15 Eagle or the Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum.
Larry Labriola is an experienced pilot and landscape contractor from Scarsdale New York. He is the owner and the pilot of the L-39 Albatros. Since he purchased the L-39 10 years ago he has been performing aerobatics, formation flying and Air Racing. Larry started Flying in High School in 1969 and now with over 7500 hours of flight time he holds an Air Transport License for Airplanes, Single and Multi Engine Land and Seaplanes, type ratings in the L-39 Albatros, the Grumman Albatross, the DC3, and the C-500 with private Privileges for gliders, helicopters and hot air balloons.

The GEICO Skytypers are a flying unit based in Long Island, NY, comprised of 10 pilots who fly World War II-era aircraft. They are the only flying unit in the world to type giant skytyped messages AND perform in air shows across the United States. They fly in SNJ-2s originally built in 1940 and 1941 during World War II. They were called the T-6 Texan by the Army Air Corps, the Harvard by the RAF, and affectionately known as “The Pilot Maker” by its crews, the SNJ was designed to transition from basic trainers to first-line tactical aircraft. There are only 11 remaining aircraft of this type in the world, of which the team utilizes six. The planes have been fully restored and specially equipped with modifications for skytyping missions.

Stephen “Cajun” Del Bagno Memorial Scholarship Major Stephen “Cajun” Del Bagno, Thunderbird #4 was killed when his F-16 crashed during a training flight in 2018. He was just 34 years old. In honor of Cajun, the National Air, Sea and Space Foundation, tan affiliate of the event, has created the Stephen “Cajun” Del Bagno Memorial Scholarship in partnership with the Florida Institute of Technology and with the support of the Del Bagno family. Every year the “Cajun Scholarship” will go to help a student in need to get his wings and pursue a future in aviation. “Cajun” started flying when he was just 14 years old and went on to be a corporate pilot, banner tower, skywriter and flight instructor prior to joining the Air Force. During his 11-year career as an Air Force pilot he instructed in the F-16 and F-35, then joined the Thunderbirds in the fall of 2017. It is in this spirit of his achievements that the Cajun Scholarship has been created to help others to achieve greatness in aviation as “Cajun” did.

BACKBONE OF WWII The North American B-25 Mitchell was an American twin-engined medium bomber manufactured by North American Aviation. It was used by many Allied air forces, in every theater of World War II, as well as many other air forces after the war ended, and saw service across four decades. The B-25 was named in honor of General Billy Mitchell, a pioneer of U.S. military aviation. By the end of its production, nearly 10,000 B-25s in numerous models had been built. These included a few limited variations, such as the United States Navy’s and Marine Corps’ PBJ-1 patrol bomber and the United States Army Air Forces’ F-10 photo reconnaissance aircraft. B-25 first gained fame as the bomber used in the 18 April 1942 Doolittle Raid, in which 16 B-25Bs led by Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle attacked mainland Japan, four months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The mission gave a much-needed lift in spirits to the Americans, and alarmed the Japanese who had believed their home islands were inviolable by enemy forces. Although the amount of actual damage done was relatively minor, it forced the Japanese to divert troops for the home defense for the remainder of the war. The raiders took off from the carrier USS Hornet and successfully bombed Tokyo and four other Japanese cities without loss. Fifteen of the bombers subsequently crashlanded en route to recovery fields in Eastern China. These losses were the result of the task force being spotted by a Japanese vessel forcing the bombers to take off 170 mi (270 km) early, fuel exhaustion, stormy nighttime conditions with zero visibility, and lack of electronic homing aids at the recovery bases. Only one B-25 bomber landed intact, in Siberia where its five-man crew was interned and the aircraft confiscated. Of the 80 aircrew, 69 survived their historic mission and eventually made it back to American lines.
The majority of B-25s in American service were used in the Pacific. They fought on Papua New Guinea, in Burma and in the island hopping campaign in the central Pacific. There, the aircraft’s potential as a ground-attack aircraft was discovered and developed. The jungle environment reduced the usefulness of standard-level bombing, and made low-level attack the best tactic. The ever-increasing number of forward firing guns was a response to this operational environment, making the B-25 a formidable strafing aircraft. The B-25 Panchito is owned and maintained by Larry Kelley and based at the Delaware Aviation Museum located in Georgetown, Delaware. “We owe it to present and future generations to wisely maintain and operate these treasures as living history monuments to those veterans who turned back tyranny over seventy years ago. We must never forget their sacrifices as they never refused the call of their country to protect our way of life.”
