Topic 1: Achievement

Each year, our 2nd and 3rd year Graphic Design students participate in the national Student Gold Pack awards, with finalists automatically advancing to the esteemed WorldStar Global Packaging Awards. This international competition celebrates student projects in packaging design, showcasing their talents, innovative thinking, and creative solutions to packaging challenges. With entries from students in 25 countries, this year’s awards recognized 137 entries. Our Veganites once again demonstrated their competitive prowess by securing 4 Finalist Certificates. Finalist Certificates are awarded to entries that receive high scores from the WorldStar Awards judges, acknowledging their outstanding achievement. Students from IIE-Vega Cape Town, Bordeaux, Durban, and Pretoria were among those awarded finalist certificates, reaffirming our global recognition in packaging design.

Topic 2: Beyond the CurriculumSuccesses

Student Collaborations and Awards

IIE-Vega collaborated with Love Your Nuts (LYN), a non-profit testicular cancer foundation, for a game jam where second year IIE Game Design & Development students utilised their technical and creative skills to address the critical issue of testicular cancer awareness. This partnership reflects our students’ holistic approach, from conceptualisation to impactful design, demonstrating their ability to tackle real-world challenges through innovation. By harnessing their creative talents and strategic thinking, our students are not only shaping their own future but also contributing to the promotion of healthier communities.

Topic 3: Student Success Stories (Employment and Postgraduate Studies)

We are proud to boast of the multitude of success stories that are IIE-Vega alumni. Not only do they enjoy jet-propelled career trajectories, but embody the IIE-Vega spirit of continuously questioning norms. They continuously evolve, innovate and add value to lives through the power of brands.

IIE-Vega graduates are in high demand in the industry. As the MD of a prominent advertising agency put it recently, “not only do Vega students know what to do, but they know how to think about what to do.” It is for this reason that IIE-Vega graduates make the transition from college to career so seamlessly.

IIE-Vega alumni can be found all over the world adding tremendous value to the organisations they work for or have founded themselves. You will find them as the Creative Director of a top international agency in Chicago; as the Marketing Director of UBER in South Africa; as the Chief Creative Officer for East Africa’s largest agency in Dar es Salaam; as award-winning designers or completing award-winning MBA dissertations.

In short, wherever you see something exciting, unprecedented, eye-popping or mind-blowing in the world of brand, business and design, it’s a safe bet there’s an IIE-Vega alumnus or alumna behind it.

Topic 4: Beyond the Curriculum Initiative

(Interesting Collaborations)

IIE-Vega Pretoria’s BA Strategic Communication students delved into the realm of experiential branding through a unique collaboration with Panarottis Pretoria. Experiential branding, aimed at eliciting emotions through sensory stimulation, forms the foundation of long-term consumer relationships. In an unexpected twist, students were transported back to childhood as they attended a specially arranged kids’ party at Panarottis. Complete with colouring tablecloths, party hats, and pizza play dough, the experience evoked nostalgia and childhood memories, fostering a deep emotional connection.

Following this immersive experience, students were challenged by Panarottis to conceptualise an experiential branding initiative for them. Divided into groups, students brainstormed and refined their ideas, culminating in presentations to Panarottis on April 8, 2024. The winning concept, dubbed the Pizza Bust Experience Branding Concept, will be executed on campus on April 15, 2024, offering students a hands-on opportunity to bring their innovative ideas to life.
