Anders Bringdal
Born in Sweden, Anders Bringdal learned to windsurf at the “Stockholm archipelago” in 1980 at the age of thirteen. He immediately got involved in the local amateur windsurf racing scene, competing in Division II windsurfing competitions. The desire to turn pro came in 1982, when a sailor by the name of Robby Naish came to town. “He showed up in Sweden back in ‘82 sometime and showed us all what windsurfing was all about!” Several years later, Anders emerged on the world windsurfing scene and along with teen sensation Bjorn Dunkerbeck, took on his hero, world champion Robby Naish and set the windsurfing world ablaze with a battle of the Titans that would rage on for years. He became the World Speed Tour Champion 2009 and is currently number 2 on the WSSRC windsurf ranking. In 2012, he became the first to record a speed of over 50 knots and remains the current speed record holder for production boards at 51.45 knots over a 500m course. Best results on the PWA World Tour year end results was a 1st in Slalom, 1st in Course race and 3rd in the waves. Anders has had a long association with Mistral and in 2015 became Production Manager for Mistral Red Dot, using his considerable knowledge and networking talents.

Entry level boards require certain design features in order to provide the best possible, first time learner experience. There is an obsession to want to create overly wide boards, which are simple elliptical shapes which lack character and any real functionality, accept stability.
“Creating a stable SUP board, does not mean it has to be featureless. Having trained several hundred SUP instructors and worked with many SUP schools, the feedback has been universal.
Designed in 3 differing sizes, the Tribe range of boards, share the same 31” x 5” width and
thickness with only the lengths altering. Features remain the same and include our slide in fin and pin system, making attachment and removal super easy and convenient. Strong, bright
colours with prominent Mistral logos have been included to make that first time experience
memorable, strongly associated with the Mistral brand.
The board should have a nose section which can handle chop, it must not be too thick so as to raise the paddlers centre of gravity. A wide rear section provides fantastic stability, while the narrowing toward the nose, gives a pleasant, streamlined feel to the board the first time paddler appreciates. A cargo net and a D-Ring for towing and securing, front and back all come together to make an exceptional entry level board for all-comers.” Steve West LOMBOK 11’5 Art Number: 161.300.115 SUMATRA 10’6 Art Number: 161.300.106 JAVA 9’6 Art Number: 161.300.096

Our Tribe boards make the first time SUP experience as good as it

The first thing that strikes you, is the new graphics by master artist, David Rigaud. We felt the original graphics were not in keeping with the board’s intention and in addition, Kailua was not a name representative of the board’s purpose and so the Asana was conceived.
It’s still based upon the same basic outline of the Kailua, but major improvements include; a cleaner deck for free and open movements, paddle-holder for the convenience of securing the paddle during workouts, a grab handle on the tail and D-rings for the attachment and use of a shoulder strap, which doubles as a foot securement point for sit-ups or as a hand hold for leg raises for example. The strap can be repositioned with ease and worn for carrying either side. It features a simple carry handle if the strap is not used. There’s a cargo net for securing clothing, drinks bottles or a dry bag and we’ve made the board 5” thick, a little thinner than before and added a central reinforcing stringer along the underside to improve rigidity when exercising. Popular not just for SUP Yoga and Fitness, this style board is easy to paddle and super stable and therefore doubles well as a durable dual purpose board for paddling and exercise. A single slide-in 9.25” fin, secured with a pin, makes for ease of removal and makes the tail area stable and paddling in a straight line effortless. All in all, the improvements are dramatic on account of many micro-management fine-tuning adjustments to a board, which has proved itself the world over. It has now reached its zenith as a platform for paddling, yoga and fitness.
Board shown is 6” thick, this is now 5” with inclusion of central reinforcement stringer underneath.
The Asana, is an advancement of our highly successful
Kailua board. As industry leaders in the area of SUP Yoga
and Fitness equipment, careful consideration has been given as to how the original Kailua board could be improved.

LOTUS 10’.0 Art Number: 161.400.100
Model shown 4” thick - actual 5”
The most unique SUP yoga platform on the planet . . .
In considering the design of the Lotus, we wanted something that should appeal on a number of levels. The vision
ultimately, was to create a ‘skin upon a skin’ - a platform upon the surface of the water for yoga and as a meditative
space, evoking a feeling of calm by its very nature, with the
capability of being able to be paddled with relative ease.

Its curved lines allude to a feminine form, evocative and appealing on a variety of levels. You cannot but help feel enticed by its charm of shape and purpose. Here is a departure from the norm, a recognition that for those who practice SUP yoga, not merely as a casual activity, but as part of a lifestyle, even a necessity, or as part of rehabilitation process, the Lotus acknowledges this level of importance and the sincerity of participation. It includes a deck free from any obstructions, a paddleholder for the convenience of securing the paddle during workouts, a drag handle on the tail and D-rings for the attachment and use of a shoulder strap, which doubles as a foot securement point for sit-ups or as a hand hold for leg raises for example. The strap can be repositioned with ease and worn for carrying either side. It features a simple carry handle if the strap is not used. There’s a small cargo-net for securing clothing, drinks bottles or a dry bag and we’ve made the board 5” thick and added a central reinforcing stringer along the underside to improve rigidity. With such a wide tail section, we’ve opted for a twin fin system using US fin boxes, so as any standard fin may be added and supplied x 2 soft fins in keeping with the nature of the board. If needs be, the fins can be removed for land based use or add in small thrusters for use in shallow waters.
Nothing compares to the Lotus - it is the only product on the market designed to be part board and part mat in the very real sense. The practitioner of SUP yoga feels very much at home on this comfortable, stable and evocative space.

The WindSUP® Santa Anna has been designed to be as practical as possible as both SUP and WindSUP®, so much so, that we have ensured the rig pack fits as deck cargo so as the end user can paddle off in one direction and return under sail power, or vice-versa as part of a mixed adventure and end-use. We’ve ensured a nice sleek looking nose and have based the shape upon our Lombok 11’5 design. The wide tail gives the board ample volume and under sail, when it lifts and begins to plane, the tail volume prevents the tail from dropping and the water line length shortening so as there is a nice transition of speed and movement of the hull underneath. We found that rounded pintail shapes, tend to sink under speed, making the board very ‘wet’ and drag was increased. Board is supplied with mast base plate with new ‘clip and go’ system. The Rig Pack
Includes 2 piece boom, 5 piece mast, mast foot, up-haul, mast extension and your choice of 3.0m (Jnr), 4.5m and 5.3m sails in traditional Mistral colours with M-Dot and Mistral logos. SANTA ANNA 11’5 Art Number: 161.200.115
Supplied with a 12” fin in a US Fin Box, we have eliminated the need for a forward mounted fin, the end result is a
beautifully balanced board under sail and as a paddleboard, it is stiff and stable and makes for and ideal adventure craft with lots of deck storage space. Users can carry both the rig at the rear and additional items on the forward area.

In a very real sense, the Vonu sets out in part, to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary in making a statement as to how a stand up paddleboard can be transformed into something utilitarian, functional and genuinely useful.
Highly visible, its colours are inspired from surf lifesaving, creating a striking contrast against the colour of water in any hue, whether from the air, or at sea level. The Vonu, makes for an excellent adventure board, for most any body of water, its uses only limited by the imagination of the user.
A raised splashguard, with the addition of nylon rope, instantly makes a bold transformation visually and on a practical level, adds functionality to the board. Grab handles elsewhere along the board’s rails and on the tail, a paddle holder, extended cargo net for securing a long cargo bag, highly reflective side strips for added night time safety, all add up to making this board highly appealing for the adventurer or SUP instructor. Making the board 5” thick ensures added stability and lowered centre of gravity of the user and the addition of a stiffening stringer ensures the board is very solid in the water. A slide-in fin makes life easy for removal and addition. VONU COASTEERING 11’5 Art Number: 161.500.115
The professional SUP instructor will find the Vonu Coasteering, highly appealing as it presents as an
ideal ‘all day long’ craft for standing and working upon, with the added appeal of being able to be
grabbed easily by a fallen paddler or swimmer and is ideal for carrying out rescues, where you need to
‘roll’ casualties onto the deck of the board.

In addition, we have included connectivity to permit the attachment of a kayak styled seat so as the user can sit and paddle with a kayak blade. This permits greater versatility of the craft and can make trips to shore for provisions an easier task when the need arises in choppy waters or when the wind freshens. Combine this with convenience of durable, tough, drop stitch inflatable technology and you have a highly appealing water craft, set to inspire the imagination of the yacht and boat user. Short and nimble, the Colorado has features expected of a board of this nature and a few more besides. There are a few conflicting ideas about design for river boards, which seems to be on account of the high skill levels of experts worldwide.

We’ve opted for a tri-fin arrangement, which includes smaller 2.75” moulded outer thrusters to provide added grip and control in the turns and a central, removal fin, housed within a US fin box. While some models opt for quad fins, we felt it important to offer the user the option of a removable central fin, which is favoured amongst many river runners. We’ve included important grab handles in key areas in the nose and tail, a wide-mouthed cargo net for dry bag, leash plug, 4cm kicker-pad for step back confidence and control, high visibility strips for low light situations and an under-side D-ring for towing or securing. Like the Colorado, it features stunning graphics, designed to enhance and elevate the riders experience and love of the board. LIMPOPO RIVER DRIFTER 10’0 Art Number: 161.700.100

nature does most of the work, while the rider simply
guides the board, taking the occasional steering stroke to
keep the board headed in the right direction.

When we sat down and considered designing an adventure based board, it occurred to us, we needed to get serious to the cause. Paddlers are now pushing themselves harder than ever to a degree that their aspirations are now outstripping the performance merits of the very boards they own.
Our adventure board we like to consider as a vehicle for ‘Trekking’ over water, where there are no pathways, only ripples and the promise of the wide open blue waters, where the rider is free to explore at will. Our board had to be uniquely stable and robust. It had to be a no-compromise product which covers a number of important areas of safety - stability being one of these and the inclusion of a separate secondary chamber.
Board shown, Aurora 14’ - note the stand-in area, which is made up of a secondary chamber.
Not only have we achieved this, but surpassed even what we would have been happy with. The side rails form two tubes, which act as stabilisers giving the board a remarkable level of stability similar to that of a rigid inflatable rescue boat.
The stand-inside dual chamber, further improves paddler stability, keeps the feet protected from cold water, wind and the chamber provides a level of added safety unheard of in the SUP industry and elevates this item to being a serious piece of equipment. No comparisons with other boards on the market can be made. Our Trekker boards are unique. The under hull configuration may look conflicting at first, but the two outer rail edges, create a super stable platform, acting like stabilisers. The oval under-shape, traps air and keeps the board feeling very light and easy to paddle. The lowered inner chamber, lowers the paddler, further increasing stability. You feel secure and in full control. A unique drain hole acts to keep the water draining out. As a safety feature, this secondary chamber provides an excellent back up. This is a premium product for the serious adventure trekker personality - this is a no compromise solution for the most hard-core and demanding paddler with big ideas of taking on whatever comes to mind!

Hardboards 2016 Chris Diplock for Mistral
“ You need a few key ingredients when you set out to
create your hardboard line of boards. Importantly you need a shaper you can work with and who can work with
you, so as ideas flow to bring about a great result. They need to be experienced enough to bring a rationale
consideration of what’s needed to create a range which is appealing to the eye and functional. ”
49 - www.mistral.com
Mistral Water Life and Living Since 1976 - 50 www.mistral.com Chris Diplock’s workshop, is in the heart of North Cornwall, England. His workshop is in an old pig shed, that is in the middle of a old iron age fort called Killibury. 30 mins north or south are some of the highest quality waves that Cornwall has to offer. Chris ‘Bro’ Diplock, is a 2nd generation surfer and has been making boards for over 26 years and surfing for over 30 years. His colleague, laminator, Paul Fluin, been surfing 25 years and making boards for over 20 years. Both learnt their trade doing production manufacturing for various companies. Between them, they have over 45 years experience of creating surfboards, during this time they have shaped, glassed, sanded and buffed tens of thousands of boards. Their boards are all hand made from start to finish and nothing is out sourced. They use the best mixture of old and new technologies to make their boards using the very best materials available in Britain, put together with love and passion, to create a product that outlasts most other brands on the market.
Race Boards From the outset, we did not cloud our design process with too much science, but applied the principles of what we know works, in the knowledge that the ultimate limitation of any board design, will be that of the rider and that all boards are powered by the relatively diminutive power of human fragility. From the cold and bleak month of January 2014, Chris Diplock, given a set of guidelines from design leader Steve West and team rider Ryan James. From here, he unleashed his creative genius in his workshop. Design ideas for the fastest race boards, have led to a polarisation of design concepts, narrowing down the possibilities of which designs work for given circumstances.
We needed a 14’ flat water board (Vortex), a 14’ open water board (Equinox), a 12’6 technical / flat water board (Slip Stream) which we
could widen for crusing purposes (Malia). We also needed a whole new range of all-rounders and SUPSurf boards. The resulting blend of boards, represent a new generation of race boards, equal to any other on the market, indeed they represent the very best of what great minds can concieve.
All Rounders Chris wanted to create a smooth transition from a board which comprises great handling on gentle rolling waves, to being able to be paddled over flat water. Altering rocker lines is one way to achieve this. More rocker will make for a better board for the surf, while a flattening of that rocker, will improve flat water speeds. Wide nose areas and a narrowing toward the tail, creates a beautiful mini-mal feel and look to the boards, retro in look. You’ll notice the boards all take their names from the Fijian Islands, the Bula, Fiji, Levu and Levuka in the spirit of the tropical waters of the South Pacific.
SUP surf Carrying on as a extension of the all-rounders, our SUPsurf boards are the vision of ‘Bro’s’ fertile mind and years of surfboard knowledge. Studying recent trends, he has followed the path of evolution which has lead to a really exciting range of SUPsurf board which begin at 9’2 and progress downward to 7’7”.
Mix this with some funky graphics and a Futures Fin system, we believe we have something special and even classic in form and function.

From the outset the brief was simple - as fast and as stable as possible. Clean entry and clean exit lines are essential for efficient hydro-dynamics. Using a sturgeon nose principal of creating a bow wave which is thrown backward not forward and an underwater section which encourages water to wrap and disperse quickly and cleanly, the Vortex creates one of the cleanest bow waves you will every see and experience. Paddling this board is not as challenging as you might imagine. Lowered standing area improves control and the secondary buoyancy is reached very quickly preventing dramatic rolling. With wins in it’s first two major races in the UK, the River Dart and Battle of the Thames London, the board has quickly risen to the fore of paddlers minds as a force to be reckoned with in every sense a world class design. Equinox 14’ For rough water racing
“ Rough water paddling demands a very different board shape. You need added volume and a very different

When the winds pick up and you want a board design which can cope with all the action of moving water, you want a design that works with the water around it, not against it. The Equinox takes it’s name from the change of seasons which tends to bring strong winds to certain parts of the world. Downwind, this board is fast and responsive. Upwind it’s comfortable in handling chop and makes the perfect racing board over waters which demand more of both paddler and board. EQUINOX Carbon Ltd Art Number: 160.100.140 Pro carbon laminate. The board is designed to blend beautifully with the nuances of
rougher waters. The added volume keeps you moving without stalling, the rounded nose keeps the ride smooth at all times and water run off
is super smooth and clean. There’s no sharp edges, which means there are no nasty surprises, making the board highly predictable. Not just quick on rougher waters, it’s quick over flatter waters.

The longer, straighter side edges of the blade keep the spread of the surface area more consistent and the narrow blade width, ensures that the Centre of Effort of the blade is raised and more central. This makes for a very well balanced blade that stays ‘upright’ for longer with less effort on the part of the paddler. Additionally, high stroke rates are often achievable with these blades.
