Executive Summary
The 2017 and 2018 Ocean, Harbor and Bay Water Quality Report provides updated data on sewage spills and their impacts resulting in ocean water closures and provides an analysis of bacteriological water quality data collected at Orange County’s ocean, harbor and bay waters. The Health Care Agency (HCA) Ocean Water Protection Program (OWPP) has been collecting information on sewage spill incidents in Orange County for a 32-year period (1987 – 2018) and this data is utilized to identify the main causes of sewages spills and reduce the number of ocean water closures in Orange County.
In addition, the OWPP has been collecting bacteriological water quality data for the 19-year period (2000 – 2018) that California Assembly Bill 411 (AB 411) Ocean Water-Contact Sports Standards has been in code. This data is used to present an overview of the year-to-year variability and longterm trends associated with ocean, harbor and bay water quality in Orange County.
