A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association

Pediatrics, which looked at nearly 400 US-born Hispanic/Latino teens with immigrant parents, found they had higher levels of anxiety, higher blood pressure, and more trouble sleeping. Another study found an unexpected increase in preterm birth rates among Hispanic/Latina mothers. Other surveys by The Children’s Partnership and California Immigrant Policy Center showed greater anxiety and fearfulness among Hispanic/Latino parents and their children. These fears are causing immigrants and their children to isolate themselves, further undermining their mental well being.
