Blood Glucose Monitoring Blood glucose self-monitoring enables you to check your own blood glucose levels at home, as often as you need to and as recommended by your doctor.

Changes in your blood glucose level can alert you and your doctor to a possible need for a change in how your diabetes is being managed.

Maintaining good blood glucose control helps to reduce the chance of developing complications from diabetes. Your doctor or credentialed diabetes educator will help you decide how many tests are needed and what range of blood glucose levels to aim for.

It is also important that you know how to use your blood glucose meter correctly, prepare your lancing device, and how to maintain your meter and equipment to ensure accuracy of results.
