The Growing Need for High Performance Servers in Global Networks Over the last decade, the primary focus of network architects has been to keep up with the exploding demand for mobile broadband bandwidth driven by the tremendous increase in the use of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. In addition, rapidly expanding use of video on all types of connected devices plus new applications such as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) have caused bandwidth demands to sky rocket. High performance mostly meant faster-and-faster pipes with the resulting emphasis on 1Gbps, 10Gbps and now 40Gbps communications technology. Recently, the need for more intelligent, secure and efficient networks has driven demand for higher performance application and network management capabilities. Technologies such as Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) are integral parts of building and operating networks which deliver differentiated services. DPI enables traffic and policy management tasks to guarantee tailored quality of experience for multi level subscriber bases from premium all the way down to freemium users. Advantech High Performance Servers The Advantech HPS line is specifically designed for high density PCIe card payloads where maximum port count is needed or the integration of industry leading offload and acceleration technology is essential. They are designed from the ground up to provide greater robustness and meet more stringent environmental conditions while complying with reduced rack depths. Key features such as hot swappable redundant power supplies and fans, advanced carrier grade remote management, and redundant BIOS or firmware images for fail safe updates all bring increased reliability and serviceability advantages to customers. Advantech HPS platforms are available in two main categories: Carrier Grade Servers (CGS) and Optimized IO Servers (OIS).

Optimized IO Servers
The Advantech Carrier Grade Servers (CGS) are members of the High Performance Server family with features required for deployment in carrier grade environments such as telecom switch rooms. Based on single and dual Intel® Xeon® processors these NEBS compliant systems utilize advanced thermal design and redundant AC and DC power supplies enabling the installation of up to 6 intelligent, passively cooled yet powerful 3rd generation PCIe cards. The improved throughput offered by the latest generation Intel® Xeon® technology also allows migration of legacy telecom applications thereby offering improved CAPEX when compared to bladed architectures such as ATCA. Its unique feature set makes the CGS product line a perfect fit for applications such as SDN Gateways, Soft Switches and Session Border Controllers.
The Optimized IO servers are high performance servers designed to support higher-spec processors and PCI Express card payloads when NEBS certification is not required. With 2 PCIe slots in the 1RU model and up to 6 high power slots supporting 600W of power in the 2RU model, the Optimized IO Servers are intended for maximum I/O, offload and acceleration applications such as real-time video encoding and transcoding, high resolution imaging and high performance analytics. The systems include extended thermal design power and performance features needed to host the most specialized PCIe cards. In addition the CGS-6000H Optimized IO version supports the most powerful Intel® Xeon® processors rated at 130W.

Advantech Design Quality Assurance (DQA) Design engineers typically apply Intel Thermal Test Vehicles (TTVs) and similar test gear to validate their designs. Advantech NCG goes one step further and employs a 40-strong dedicated DQA team of engineers each of whom bring added expertise in their particular domain in order to yield the highest possible product quality. We test all our designs to the maximum, checking thermal profiles, signal integrity, shock and vibration. High Density Video Encoding/Transcoding The Video streaming market has exploded over the last few years as has consumer expectation. Accelerate Virtual Switching and Network Functions in SDN In today’s enterprise, telecom and data center infrastructure, the intelligent edge is comprised of standard servers that are responsible for hosting applications, network and security services while simultaneously directing traffic among virtual machines across a sophisticated overlay network. By offloading these networking functions to the Netronome programmable FlowNIC, Advantech servers solve the scalability challenges of virtual switching at the intelligent edge while offering more valuable x86 CPU cycles to run applications. This configuration makes Advantech systems well positioned for use as SDN middleboxes, SDN gateways and NFV appliances. PREMIUM A premium program establishes close interaction between your development team and Advantech service engineers in order to agree on a bespoke system configuration, software load and overall network requirements.
Each program is accompanied by a corresponding level of service and response time. The systems and platforms we propose are pre-integrated application ready platforms embedded in a qualified, dedicated, and secure network test environment. You can easily check out the performance gains achievable on next generation Intel® CPUs and NICs or see how their software scales across multiple blades in an ATCA system.
