OVERVIEW

Determination of a lecturer’s duties will normally be achieved by annual consultation between the Faculty Dean, Head of Sports Development and Outdoor Learning and the individual lecturer and shall take into consideration the outcome of the College Staff Appraisal Scheme including Staff Development and the Annual Job Review. GENERIC LECTURING DUTIES FOR ACADEMIC GRADE 2

The full range of lecturers’ duties is set out in Section C4-5/6 of the Staff Handbook. The following list of duties is indicative, but not exhaustive:Teaching and Learning Support: The College expects the Roleholder to develop innovative approaches to the learning experience and the curriculum, and to designing the teaching content and methodology. Teaching and learning support may include• • • •

Teaching as a member of a team in a variety of setting from individual or small group tutorials to large lectures; fieldwork teaching and supervision; supervision of dissertations, projects, assignments, etc.; supervision of placements, teaching practice; 1

distance learning guidance and supervision; preparation; assessing and marking; setting assignments and examinations; attendance at examination boards and other meetings relating to student performance; pastoral care; development of teaching/learning materials;

Academic Management and Administration • • • • • • •

collaborate with academic colleagues on course development and curriculum changes, including academic content, delivery and assessment attending committees/panels/boards student recruitment, placements, admissions attendance at external activities liaison/membership of external committees participation in quality assurance procedures participation in staff appraisal (as appraiser and/or appraisee as appropriate).

GENERAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To participate in the University College’s annual Appraisal Scheme. 2.To take due care of yourself and others in respect of Health & Safety. 3.To attend development activities that may be identified as necessary by you or your Line Manager. 4.To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and any young persons you are responsible for, or come into contact with. Working at the University College may involve some degree of responsibility for safeguarding children, although the extent of that responsibility will vary according to the nature of the post. 5.To attend training courses that may be identified as necessary by your Line Manager. 6.To undertake additional duties as may be reasonably required, commensurate with the level of responsibility.

Attributes Essential Desirable Qualifications A good first degree in a relevant discipline  Higher degree in a (Professional with a commitment to achieving a Masters relevant discipline or Vocational) level qualification.  Membership of a professional body, and/or working towards a relevant professional qualification e.g. APIOL, AMI  Teaching or lecturing experience  Range of lecturing Work related  Practitioner and Assessor experience in duties in Higher experience outdoor adventure education Education  A broad range of experience in the outdoor field Competences:  Teaching (HERA  Excellent Communication analysis)  Teamwork  Participation in internal and external networks  Decision-making  Planning and organising resources  Initiative & problem solving  Analysis and Research Knowledge
