CLIMBING WEEEKEND Barcelona is an amazing cultural hotspot of Europe, however unknown to most it is also a world class destination for both sport and multi-pitch climbing. As the summer months come to an end, autumn is hitting many countries and the scorching summer heat of Barcelona makes it perfect climbing weather. The beauty of this destination is the mixture of climbing and culture; perfect for couples and individuals who would like to experience the buzz of the exciting Mediterranean city life and the beauty of warm rock climbing.

Barcelona has climbing for every level and preference. Beginner rock climbers - a great location to get started and progress fast. Indoor climbers - ideal for progressing to outdoor sport climbing. Sport climbing junkies - push your grade! Our experienced Rock Guides will make sure you get the most out of the weekend break. They will take you to the best crags with the most appropriate choice of routes, provide technique and performance coaching, in addition to teaching good safety practices. As the majority of the best climbing is on multi-pitch routes, we run these course on a 2:1 ratio, so come along with a friend or solo. We also look to pair up similar climbers, so get in touch if you are looking for a partner.
Dates: Late September, October and even November are great months for Barcelona climbing. If you would like a pre-season warm up that leads to the summer, we also arrange trips in May.

CLIMBING WEEEKEND ABOUT CLIMBING IN BARCELONA There are various areas that we head to during this climbing weekend, depending on your climbing preference. A forty-five minutes drive from Barcelona is the monastery of Montserrat. It is nestled in a unique collection of rock formations of conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. The climbing is unique and a must for anyone visiting Barcelona to climb, not only because of the top quality rock but also to see the mind blowing rock formations. There is a mixture of multi - pitch and sports climbing all easily accessed from paths.
the crowds. In this part of the trip you will stay in mountain huts in the heart of Girona’s highlands. The Pyrenees are a great destination for rock climbers who want to combine sport climbing with multi-pitch climbing; with hundreds of high quality walls that rise up to 1.000 m - half of them limestone with the other half granite. Here you can continue your alpine experience with nicer autumn weather and easier access than the Alps! Some of the most classic areas are Cavallers, Aigues Tortes Nat. Park and Ordesa Nat. Park at altitudes between 1700m and 3000m. These areas combine sport, traditional and long alpine routes. For the rest of the year, the Lleida Pre-pyrenees has a lower altitude and offers medium sized walls that rise up to 600m with great multi-pitch bolted routes.
Prades might not sound familiar to you however, it holds some world class sport climbing spots like Siurana, Montsant and Margalef. Together these climbing spots have around 5.000 routes of the most desired limestone and conglomerate. Siurana and Margalef are absolutely unbeatable in famous hard routes and in variety of styles and shapes. They alone have 50% of the planet’s 9th b grade (French scale) routes! Rodelllar, just a bit further is where overhang lovers can fulfil their dreams of climbing overhangs. Girona is no doubt one of Spain’s most beautiful province; although it enjoys little fame as a climbing destination currently. You will discover true sport climbing paradises like Montgrony or Sadernes: Fine limestone surrounded by unspoilt forests and without

To ensure you experience the very best spots, you will be guided by a local IFMGA guide. Fabio is our lead guide for our Barcelona trips and knows the area like the back of his hand. He grew up outside Barcelona, taking to climbing in his late teens and spending his time climbing the incredible variety of rock available in the area. He speaks fluent Spanish, Italian, English and French and has numerous incredible expeditions under his belt - you couldn’t be in better hands! ITINERARY: For all our Barcelona trips, the itinerary will be tailor made for you! There are many options depending on your level and the type of climbing you wish to try. You can combine all areas we climb in mixing up the accommodation with city and mountain huts, or stay in the city all the time and have day trips from there. You can book as many days climbing as you want and may wish to combine it with some days off in the week to explore the city. The choice is up to you!
ACCOMMODATION: Your accommodation in Barcelona could not be more central - just 5 minutes walk from the famous Las Ramblas de Barcelona. You will stay in a fully equipped apartment that comes with free wifi, air conditioning, washing machine and everything you need to be self-catered. Alternatively, you may wish to use your evening to stroll the streets and experience the Spanish cuisine. We have 2 apartments situated in the same building, sleeping up to 8 people. Larger groups get in touch for more options! ABILITY LEVEL: ROCK 1 - You have climbed indoors (top roping or leading) to F5+. You have little or no experience leading outdoors. FITNESS LEVEL: R - General fitness, good power to weight ratio and rock climbing specific fitness will help, but are not crucial due to the venues we visit. You will return a stronger, better climber and refreshed after a good break!
The suggested course price is for three night’s accommodation and three days climbing, including a pick up from the airport and transport to the various crags. EQUIPMENT: We provide ropes and quick draws. You should bring your own harnesses and rock shoes, but feel free to bring your favourite (lucky?) quick draws or rope with you too. Your guide is local to the area and can point you to a good climbing shop if you want to buy any climbing equipment, clothing, chalk and so on.

KIT LIST Our guides will provide ropes and quick draws but if you would like to bring your own kit feel free to do so.
INSURANCE : We strongly recommend getting specialist travel insurance that covers cancellation, medical and mountain rescue. Make sure that it covers rock climbing. We recommend the Dogtag (www.dogtag. co.uk) - they have comprehensive policies and a good reputation.

GETTING TO BARCELONA Barcelona has its own airport and you can get a taxi from the airport to the flats in Barcelona. Our guide can also pick you up if convenient.
