His sister Rachael from New Zealand and sons Keith and Mel flew across the ditch for the celebrations.
The relatives jumped in to help out on the night with Aaron and Rachael handling the cooking spit, Dale providing the birthday cake and Jason & Jana putting on a spectacular night/light show.
Born Henry Roger Nielsen on 29th January 1943 at Opanari, Taranaki, New Zealand.
Only son of Henry Kitchener and Mary Nielsen and brother to Anne, Faye, Marie, Kaye and Racheal.
In New Zealand he was a pretty good footballer and in his teens represented New Zealand in Rugby Union.
When Rog left the Farm he joined the New Zealand Police Force but this was not for him.
Building was in his blood as his Grandfather Henry Rasmas Nielsen is recognised for building the first sawn timber hut/house on the North Island.
When Roger moved to Australia he had no problem finding work in the Building Industry.
He built-up a great reputation and worked for well known Building Companies including Jenning Constructions, Prowse, McNab, Fletcher Constructions and had his own company Melbourne Constructions.
Some of Roger’s building feats, in which he was in charge included Redbank Plaza, Treasury Casino in Brisbane, Black Toyota Warwick and the Warwick West State School’s Library and community area.
In Toowoomba Roger and his crew built Super Rooster, Bernoth Centre, the Catholic Archives building and Concannon College then in Allora Roger built two aged units.
In his spare time (if he had any!) Roger was a keen Golfer and became the left hand golfing champion for Queensland playing alongside the likes of Greg Norman. He has enjoyed playing at many courses around the area including Clifton and Allora.
In 1987 Roger met the love of his life, wife Sharon so when he retired Rog enjoyed helping Sharon with the mail run where he has made many friends. Along with their son Jason-Roger, they have loved their time spent in Allora.
