Pittsworth Show’s led steer/heifer competition has the continued support of loyal sponsor Rural Steel Supplies again this year, who have been backing the event for almost a decade. Company founder and director Cec Fox first came on board as a sponsor seven years ago largely because of fond memories he has of school holidays spent in Pittsworth as a young child. “I’m now 72 years old and the memories are still very strong,” Mr Fox said.

Originally show Steward Susie Milson contacted Cec Fox with the suggestion Rural Steel Supplied might like to sponsor some events at the Pittsworth show. “They are very large customers of Rural Steel Supplies so I was more than happy to support the show,” he said. “Rural Steel Supplies is proud to be a major sponsor of the Pittsworth Show.” Growing up Cec Fox often visited his father’s mother Granny Bougoure who lived in Hume Street, as did her daughters, his Aunts Kathleen Wagner and Betty Baker.
“We stayed with them on many occasions,” he said. “I have fond memories of riding horses in the Trott’s yard, next door to Granny, with Penny and Duncan. “I spent many days at the calf sales at either end of town and also at the cheese factory watching the cheese being made by a very loudly spoken Clarry Hohn,” he said. Mr Fox also recalls good times at the dairy farm owned by Roley Stower and his sons Mervyn and Jeffery.
A few years ago, Cec Fox tried retirement but in 2010 decided to put all his steel marketing experience to good use in his own company, developing steel products for rural markets. His commercial acumen gained with companies such as Metalcorp, MI Steel and Ashley Moore Pty Ltd means he can put to good use 50 years of experience in the steel industry. Based in Brisbane, Cec Fox and his son Ben are currently responsible for all steel sales and client relationships with Rural Steel Supplies.
Due to Rural Steel Supplies expansion Ben Fox joined the business 6 years ago. Through his business acumen Rural Steel Supplies continues to grow and expand. Rural Steel Supplies understand their sales and continued expansion comes from the rural market of graziers and farmers and they believe it is important to give back through assisting community events and putting money back into the local economy. Rural Steel Supplies are passionate supporters of rural communities in regional Australia, which is demonstrated by the $30,000 they dedicate each year to sponsorship. Sand man turned play into an art form
Dennis Massoud’s love of building sand castles in his early years has served him well as an adult. In fact, his hobby-turned-career has taken him around the globe as a full-time sculptor for the past 30 years.
His sand sculpting at the show this year brings him to Pittsworth for the first time so be sure to give him a friendly welcome as he creates something special on Friday and again on Saturday.
Children’s play area
There’ll be a play zone included at the show for children under five to get busy with some rideon tractors while Mum and Dad have a coffee or a bite while keeping a watchful eye. This area is not supervised but is designed to give parents a little break while the kids have a play.

A Young Parader to watch...
One thing the Pittsworth Show brings out every year is a mighty big show of enthusiasm and passion among the next generation coming through and young Lane Passmore is a fine example of this.
The Back Plains lad, 8, cleaned up at the recent Clifton Show with a win in the Under 12 Young Parader category and scored Grand Champion Parader for up to 25 years which had 50 entries.
Lane has been competing since age 4 and he’ll be presenting his own heifer on Saturday morning.
There are 17 sections to explore in The Show Pavilion, showcasing hundreds of entries across horticulture, cookery, needlework, art, photography and more!
