Merry Christmas 2014 Season’s Greetings
WITH Christmas nearly upon us, it is time to get together with family and friends and celebrate the year that will be 2015. 2014 was momentous. We began with the fight to save SPC Ardmona and our orchards. The Australian public responded magnificently, immediately doubling the sales of SPC Ardmona product. We saved Australia’s last fruit processing plant, the majority of the jobs in the factory and many of the orchards. In the process Shepparton was really put on the map too. This is another significant Christmas for all Australians. 100 years ago, there were Australians overseas fighting in the Great War or preparing for deployment. ANZAC day 2015 will be the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. We have received funding through the ANZAC Centen ary Grants Program , for the special commemorations and statues. They will be permanent reminders of the sacrifices made. It really has been a year of challenges, triumphs and some sadness in Murray. Some parts in the west of the electorate are again in drought. I had the privilege of working on Federal Member for Murray Australia’s behalf at the United Nations in New York. It really makes me so proud and grateful to be an Australian. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.
Best wishes, Dr Sharman Stone

SHEPPA RTON is an incredible part of rural Victoria, with a diverse and engaging community. As we head towards the festive season, it is important to reflect on the accomp lishmen ts and challen ges for 2014, to enable police to work better with the community and our partners in 2015. 2014 presented significant policing challenges however it is pleasing to see we are making a difference with family violence and road trauma. The extensive renovations have been completed at the Sheppa rton Police Station and the safer city camera s have been assisting police in identifying and preventing crime in the Sheppar ton CBD. I would like to thank the community, and our partner agencie s, for their assistan ce in reducin g crime, and for the suppor t they have provide d to those in our community that are most in need of assistance. THRIVING COMMUNITY… Waranga Basin is fantastic for all water sports and a great place to spend your Christmas holidays. Photo: Supplied..
A special Rushworth Christmas LOOKING for something different to do over the Christmas holidays? Why not take the time to look around your own region and visit Rushworth; a rustic little town reaped in the history of the Gold Rush era. The main street still boasts buildings that were built in a past steeped in history, but they are still actively being utilised by local businesses today. This thriving community has many quaint shops, cafés and general businesses including an IGA, Perry’s Butcher (famous for their home-made sausages), a fantastic bakery, gift and variety shop, pharmacy, hardware and many others. Rushworth has many sporting and social clubs, two schools, kindergarten, two pubs, a motel, hospital and an aged care facility. It’s on the edge of the Waranga Basin which is great for all sorts of water sports especially boating and fishing. If you’re sick of the noise and hustle and bustle of big towns and would like to live in a friendly community with a relaxed country atmosphere and great facilities, Rushworth is well worth a look. Alternatively, it is a great place to take friends and family on the weekend or over the festive season. There are many things to see, including the museum, Balaclava Mine or bush walking in Rushworth or Whroo State forests. If you want to stay over, there is a caravan park on the Waranga Basin shore or motel accommodation in town, it would be best to book ahead to make sure of a vacancy as the town is very popular over the holidays. Why don’t you drop in this Christmas holidays and stop for lunch at the Motofinish Café and sample some of their home cooked fare, have a picnic in one of the parks or on the shores of the Waranga basin. And also if you are looking for something special to do on Christmas Eve, go along to the annual, Rushworth Christmas Eve Fair, 6pm at the Rushworth Fire Station. The family will have great time.
