Merry Christmas 2015 Season’s Greetings
HOW quickly Christmas has come along again this year. My year has been filled once again with working to provide solid and fruitful outcomes for the people of Murray. Water has been our hardest fight so far, trying to get a new and fairer way forward for our struggling farmers and their families. In Murray, we are on the cusp of many great things, with new Free Trade Agreements providing new sources of business for our strong agricultural community. We need to ensure that the appropriate processes are in place so we can capitalise on these new opportunities. Murray does agriculture exceptionally well and I have made it my mission to try and provide the most equitable and vibrant future possible for our resilient community. We are blessed to live in a unique and diverse region that has the potential to grow and expand, and to comfortably raise our families here. I urge everyone to embrace the Christmas season by having a chat to their neighbours and extended families, enjoy some of the many wonderful community events on offer and provide a helping hand to those in need. My very best wishes.
Best wishes, Hon Dr Sharman Stone Federal Member for Murray
FESTIVE DAY FOR GOODSTART … Students at Goodstart Early Learning Centre on the corner of Archer and Hayes Street in Shepparton were treated to a festive surprise on Monday. After the preschool students put on a special Christmas concert for their parents, they had the chance to meet the big man himself, Santa Claus, who came riding in on his sleigh and handed a special gift out to each student, including Isobelle Haby, 2.

Merry Christmas 2015 Season’s Greetings
CHRISTMAS is a special time of the year – a time when we gather with family and friends to give thanks, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate the beginning of a new year. It is a time to reflect on the milestones and achievements of the past 12 months and to look forward to the coming year. This year on Christmas Day my family and I will gather at home for our usual noisy celebration, where we exchange gifts and laughter, and enjoy just being together as a family. I hope you can celebrate this Christmas in a way that means the most to you, and that you enjoy the season of good will and happiness in the precious company of your family and friends. I hope 2016 brings all Victorians good health, prosperity and happiness. Season’s Greetings.
Best wishes, Wendy Lovell Member for Northern Victoria Region

AS we look forward to Christmas and the New Year and a welcome holiday for many, I am most concerned that we take care on our roads. While I hesitate to raise this issue in a Christmas greeting I must point out that 10 people this year have died as a result of motor vehicle accidents in the Shepparton local government area, compared with two at the same time last year. I urge you all to ensure that your cars are safe and that you do not take any of the risks we are all so well aware of now. Let’s be mindful of one another in the weeks ahead so that we can happily enjoy the company of family and friends during the forthcoming holiday break. Peter and I both wish you a happy Christmas and New Year.

2015 saw the business community come together for one of the biggest and most supported business awards. With the business awards hitting 20 years, it was wonderful to see 109 nominees and over 470 people attend the Gala Dinner. In 2016 we will continue to evolve the awards from feedback this year and make our 21st something to celebrate. The Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board are looking forward to making some big in-roads next year for our members and implement our strategic plan for 2016 and once again take up a leadership role to ensure that members are encouraged to participate and engage with the chamber on all matters of concern. On behalf of the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board I wish our members, business partners and families a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a prosperous 2016 as we work together to make a difference.

Merry Christmas 2015 Season’s Greetings
CHRISTMAS is a precious time to celebrate with family and friends while the New Year is a period for reflection and thoughts on the year ahead. While 2015 has seen its challenges, especially with recent climatic events for our food producers, whether it be an overall dry Spring or hail damage to our fruit growers. Equally though our region is well poised to take up some great opportunities. The SheppARTon Festival continues to evolve and was recognised recently at the Tourism Victoria awards, while we continue to see major investment in food assets such as Gerry Harvey’s $80M investment into dairy farming, NZ firm Seeka’s $25M strategic acquisition of horticultural assets in Bunbartha, Fonterra’s $120M commitment to a cheese plant at Stanhope, and the ongoing transformation of the SPC business and re-fit of the Shepparton plant. More realistic value for the Australian dollar provides ongoing optimism for export markets, particularly with the recent free trade agreements with China and Japan. At the same time, exciting initiatives such as the new Shepparton Art Museum will add to the liveability and positive image of our city. It’s a great time to be in Shepparton, and the Goulburn Valley! I would like to wish you a very safe Merry Christmas and 2016 and please be safe in your travels.

Christmas in our region By Melanie Spencer RE-DISCOVER our region by taking time to visit the townships of Kyabram and Rushworth. Located a leisurely drive from Shepparton, Kyabram and Rushworth have many treasures to uncover and are known for being the home to many iconic tourist attractions. Kyabram boasts its very own Fauna Park, with 55 hectares of wood and wetland areas, which attracts animal lovers from across the country and indeed the world to visit and interact with their huge population of Australian animals. The newly refurbished Kyabram Town Hall has also now reached icon status with its gallery of ever-changing exhibitions. The main street also has its own attraction with the fantastic array of retail outlets and cafés. Rushworth, being an old gold mining town, is steeped in history and with its quaint buildings, interesting shops, enticing eateries and museum, it is a great place for the family to amble around. Two of Rushwor t h’s most not able attractions for locals and tourists are the Waranga Basin and the Balaclava Mine in Whroo, just out of town. AT Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative, we try to keep a world perspective, we look beyond Shepparton, ourselves and our own situation. There’s a lot happening nationally and internationally. Internationally, we’re seeing the rise of fundamentalism and people willing to sacrifice humanity for ideology. Nationally, we’re seeing the approaches that are taken towards border protection and what is actually happening with the rights of and attitudes towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Looking even more locally, we are experiencing a rise in racism and the scourge of domestic violence. We need to get back together, so that children can play with children and so that the elderly and women are safe. This Christmas, we want everyone to celebrate the innocence of children, the optimism of youth and the wisdom of elders irrespective of culture, colour or creed. On behalf of Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative, we would like to wish the community a happy and safe Christmas and a positive and prosperous new year.
Best wishes, Kim Sedick Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative CEO

Responsible pet ownership Important points to remember about pets over Christmas By Farrier and Veterinarian, Dr Judith Mulholland BSc BVMS PEOPLE often mistakenly give the pet that they wish they were going to receive, as a gift. The animal they are about to give has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. Never give a pet to anyone if you have not asked them. Research the breed for their lifestyle and situation. If you are going on holiday, please ensure that someone will be checking on your pets
each day - food, lots of clean, cool water in the shade, a shelter etc. Dogs on chains are at high risk of heat stress or becoming caught up. Make sure your pets are microchipped and the details are all up to date with the registry. Avoid travelling with your pets in hot weather. Plan your holiday with your pets in mind. Vaccination with C5 or F5 is required two weeks before you place your dog or cat in kennels.
