WHAT started out as a conversation between friends has turned into a full blown training campaign with a crew of 58 individuals for local men, Matt Kington, Troy Tremellen and Michael Chalmers who are currently half way through preparations to compete in January’s Tough Mudder event. Tough Mudder is a hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces to test a team’s all round strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. It’s not a race, but a challenge of team ability and endurance. And thanks to the generosity and support of individuals and sponsors, this local Tough Mudder crew is also well on its way to raising money in support of local causes like GV Health. As local business men, Matt Kington, Proprietor of Hudsons Coffee, Troy Tremellen, NAB Business Banking Manager and Proprietor of VI.PT Lifestyle Personal Training and Michael Chalmers, Proprietor of Chalmers Private Wealth, have all drawn on their individual knowledge to make their campaign a success. Matt said, “When we started out in October, we thought that there was potential to raise some money for local charities, but at best
we thought maybe $3,000 or $4,000 and our running total to date has already exceeded those expectations. “Our goal now is to reach $6,000 which will ensure $3,000 to be pledged to GV Health and the other $3,000 to be divided up between other charities to be decided upon. “Troy, Personal Trainer from VI.PT Lifestyle is a great motivator and the campaign has been a great way to get fit and it also gives you something to aim for. It’s really about fellowship and doing something good for the community. “Troy generously donates his time, training the Tough Mudder crew twice a week, with each participant paying a $5 registration fee of which all funds go to charity. “The crew we’ve got is a mixture of all ages and body types and our focus at the event in January will be getting everyone through the event. Some of the obstacles are extreme so it will be a real mental challenge as well as physical. “We are really happy with where the campaign is at, we’ve exceeded all of our expectations and now we’re just looking towards a great day in January and with any luck continuing on to compete again in September.”
