here’s never been more options available when it comes to selecting the finishing touches for your new home. Local Hotondo Homes builder, Colin Mintern has helped bring hundreds of dream homes to life and says what’s important for some home buyers may not be for others. “My team works closely alongside our clients to ensure they have everything they want in their new home, it’s certainly not a one-size-fits-all process,” Colin said. “We like to find out about what’s important to our individual clients and go from there. It’s not just about creating a beautiful product; we need to cover the must-have items and make sure it ticks all the form and function boxes too.” “Sometimes it can take a while to settle on the finishes and colours, and that’s ok. It’s a huge investment, so there’s no need to rush through the journey.” Sharing his tips and advice after 27 years in the building industry, Colin recommends new home-owners splurge in some areas and save in
others. “I would never ask my clients to compromise, but I would ask them to think about where they’ll be spending the most of their time, both now and in five years’ time. “It’s a lot harder to change the foundations and flooring than it is to change the wall colours down the track,”
Colin said. The Hotondo Homes Shepparton team recently opened a brand new shopfront in the heart of town, offering clients the perfect place to make all of their external selections in-house. Visit 4, 228-232 High Street, Shepparton (across from the GV Hotel) or call 5831 2250.

hen the summer ends and we spend more time indoors, we often forget about our swimming pools and spas. Of course, it’s much too cold to be using them, but it’s important to remember to maintain them and give them some attention to ensure they are ready for us to use again in the warmer months. With 16 years of experience in the pool construction and servicing industry, Joel Guseli of Guseli Pool Servicing knows a thing or two about maintaining a pool. “Winter is a great time to upgrade, service or replace your pool equipment as the change in climate can dramatically change the water chemistry. A comprehensive water test can help get your pool back under control,” Joel said. Regular pool services are also recommended, which Joel can help with. “There are easy ways to maintain your pool in the winter that will save you from spending unnecessarily in the summer, such as keeping leaves out of the pump and skimmer baskets, reducing your running hours and pumping out any excess water from rainfall,” Joel said. commercial refrigeration including servicing milk vats for the dairy industry and repairing electrical appliances. Today the firm continues to provide a diverse range of services including the repairing of electrical and gas appliances, however air conditioning has driven the growth of the business over recent years. The family run business headed up by John Dickson Jnr with the help of son, Hayden, employs 10 with a strong service department. Dicksons’ from the 1960s has trained a lot of apprentices over the years. “Dad has taken pride in helping apprentices develop and seeing their skills and careers progress over the years,” Hayden told The Adviser. With the heating season in full swing, Dicksons’ can help with all your domestic, commercial and industrial heating requirements including split systems, multi-split systems, ducted systems, and gas heating systems. They carry all the leading brands including Panasonic, Bonaire, Fujitsu, Braemar, Toshiba, Mitsubishi Electric and Carrier, and back it up with a strong service department. Recently Dicksons’ received the backing of national air conditioning firm, Grosvenor Engineering which provides air conditioning, fire and electrical services to a range of national companies in the Goulburn Valley. For a business celebrating 55 years here in Shepparton, it’s great to see Dickson’s Air Conditioning & Refrigeration continuing to thrive. If you’re in the market for top quality heating this winter, give them a call on 5821 2906 or stop by their offices at 55-57 Longstaff Street, Shepparton, just off Wyndham Street near McDonalds.
Stay warm this winter Winter has officially begun and with it, the cold, miserable weather. To make it easier to get out of bed on those frosty mornings, or to keep you warm throughout the night, we’ve put together some tips on how to keep your home warm without spending too much on electricity. INVEST IN INSULATION If your house is freezing in the winter and terribly hot in the summer, insulation can help. Insulation helps the heat stay in while also saving you on your power bill. It will also keep your home cool in summer. FILL THE GAPS Gaps around windows and under doors can contribute to the loss of warm air created by your heating. Filling in these gaps, as well as blocking off chimneys and closing off areas of the home that aren’t in use can make a huge difference to the heating in your home.
