HERE TO HELP YOU BACK ON YOUR FEET… Shepparton Villages’ Community Service Program Manager, Emma Williamson will work with clients from the comfort of their own home to achieve their health goals. Photo: Katelyn Morse.
New restorative care service helps
maintain independence A NEW service coming to Shepparton Retirement Villages will assist those wishing to maintain physical and mental health and wellbeing within their own homes. One of only two ser vices available across the Hume Region, the Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) program is a new specialised service that will be offered by Shepparton Villages to the wider community from July 1. Delivered to clients from within their home, the service is designed to reverse or slow functional decline that some older people may experience. Using a goal-or ientated process, Shepparton Villages’ newly appointed Community Service Program Manager, Emma Williamson will work exclusively with clients from within their home to create a goal-orientated process. “There will be access to a suite of services over an eight-week period that will get you back to being able to live independently in your own home,” Emma said. “The service is for people who are at risk of needing to go into care or need a bigger range of services. We work with a multi-disciplinary team including the client’s general practitioner to try and get them back on their feet.” There are strict criteria and eligibility

involved in applying for Shor t Term Restorative Care and Emma is more than happy to assist potential clients through the process. “If you are caring for someone who you think might benefit from this program, I am happy to go out and meet with you and support the client with the referral process through My Aged Care to help ensure you are requesting the right referral service for this specific program,” Emma explained. “If you meet the correct criteria, the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will then go out and do the assessment and approval and then we pick you up on the program following that.” “I work with a no wrong door approach, so if this isn’t the right program for you, I am going to try and point you in the direction to get you in to the right service.” For Shepparton Villages, the Short Term Restorative Care program is a great transitional link to the existing Home Care program, and provides another service the organisation can provide to the wider community that focuses on caring for the elderly in their own home. To find out more, contact Emma Williamson at Shepparton Villages on 5832 0800.
