COMMUNITY Interlink is a shining beacon in community support, according to a Community Interlink service recipient and their carer.
Such commendation is frequently received by the organisation, according to Tricia Van De Paverd, acting divisional director, community care of the consortium’s lead agency, GV Health.
“We receive a phenomenal number of compliments every year,” Ms Van De Paverd said.
“Community Interlink is a local, public health service alliance that people know they can trust. That’s especially important in the new open Home Care Package market where profit-driven private providers now exist.”
When the consortium formed in 2015, it was thought to be an Australian-first and involved the major health providers
and hospitals in the Hume and Southern Riverina regions and smaller regional providers like the Euroa Health and Benalla Health services all taking action ahead of 2017 reforms to home care.
“The consortium’s shared philosophy and commitment to supporting local people with local services, local health jobs and local businesses, benefits the entire region,” Ms Van De Paverd said.
“We hire only thoroughly checked, reputable businesses, to support our clients who provide services such as home maintenance, gardening, cleaning, personal care and allied health therapies.”
Community Interlink was awarded the 2019 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards ‘Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Award’ for excellence in public sector aged care.

IN the electorate of Nicholls there are an estimated 3,735 people living with dementia, which is expected to increase to 5,650 by 2058. Findings from a survey conducted by Dementia Australia reveal just how big an issue discrimination is for people living with dementia, and is calling on our communities to make change.
During the recent Dementia Action Week, Dementia Australia shared one tip a day showing simple ways to support people living
with dementia. These included tips such as:
• Encouraging sufferers to stay active and healthy
• Creating a dementia-friendly home environment
• How to give people with dementia their space
Living with dementia changes how people experience the world. People can experience changes to their memory, intellect, rationality,
social skills and physical functioning.
Many people experience other changes too. Changes in how people relate to them. People might stop talking to them, staying in touch and inviting them to things. That’s not dementia, it’s discrimination.
To find out how you can make a difference to the lives of Australians impacted by dementia please visit dementia.org.au/ dementia-action-week.
