The inaugural Emerald Bank Farmers Market saw approximately 3,000 wander through 35 stalls on Sunday. With fresh local fruit and vegetables, homemade pasta, flowers, cakes, eggs, breads and ciders among the items on offer, there are plans in place to see the Victorian Farmers’ Markets Association accredited market be a regular occurrence, with more
stalls expected to come on board. Emerald Bank Farmers Market market coordinator, Helen Moutafis said, “The market exceeded the amount of people we were expecting for being the first one. We are quite overwhelmed with the great feedback we received on there being such a variety of stalls. “Markets like this is something we’re lacking a little of in the area, so it was great to be able to provide this to the Shepparton community. Training shifts will commence in December with the contract ramping up mid to late January. Directors, Phil and Rob Priestly said, “This contract is a great boost to the company and a real credit to our team. “We have secured the contract in a tough market against much larger competitors. The dedication of our team to deliver quality has really made a big difference. “Further we will be looking for happy and motivated people that want to be part of a growing family company with a strong future.” Details of the application process will be advertised in the coming days and interested applicants can apply at www.gouge.com.au

Grinning from ear to ear By Nicholise Garner YOU know how some people give a really beautiful first impression? That’s what I felt when I met Insight Dentistry’s dental surgeon, Dr Don Prato. It is no surprise to me that after 50 years in the business, the staff and patient’s of Insight Dentistry will miss Don’s presence as he enjoys retirement. Don told me, “I’ve been really fortunate to have loved my work and the people that I work with. My patients have been incredibly loyal, supporting me throughout the years.” When I asked Don what he’s looking forward to, he said, “After 50 years, I’m really looking forward to doing something other than turning up to work each day. By Nicholise Garner OVER the past 50 years, and even in recent years, there have been huge technological advances in all areas throughout life. Medical advancements in technology have drastically improved longevity and quality of life particularly with early diagnosis and treatment options, which make this age and time a wonderful one to be alive. G r a h a m H i l l Eye c a r e d i r e c to r s , Graham Hill and Mark De Paola have seen enormous technological changes relating to eyecare in recent years. Mark said, “Tech nolog y has played both positive and negative roles in eyecare. With the higher usage of computers, smart phones and tablets, patients are experiencing increased eyestrain and headaches which often results in poor learning outcomes for students. Computer screens also emit high-energy, blue light, which affect sleep patterns, resulting once again in visual fatigue and impacting
concentration and earning.” Graham said, “Some of the biggest changes I’ve witnessed in recent years have been advances in diagnostics and treatment options with excellent outcomes in eyewear now more specifically meeting individual needs and being much more comfortable to wear. Even contact lenses are now available in multi focals and are conveniently designed to sleep in and wear for a month at a time.” All staff at Graham Hill Eyecare undergo regular training enabling them to sell the latest eyewear with confidence and are highly skilled in helping patients to find the look that best suits their face and the style that best suits their life. Spring into summer
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS RARE OPPORTUNITY… Early Settler assistant manager, Jess Valentin prepares the Mansfield range for their big sale. Photo: Nicholise Garner.
AS CONSUM ERS , although we can feel over saturated by repeated sales and promotions, smart shoppers know that there are some sales that rarely come up and when they do, it’s a real opportunity for savings. Early Settlers store manager, Fiona Butler and assistant store manager, Jess Valentin excitedly pointed out what makes this festive season’s sale really unique. Fiona said, “This is one of the best sales I’ve seen. We have never had 40 percent off the Mansfield range, which is one of our most popular brands…it really never goes on sale like this. There’s also 40 percent off selected tapware, which is a fantastic saving. We’re offering a $300 voucher to be used in-store, with baths sold and a $500 Early Settler gift voucher when customers buy any one of our leather sofas.”
This beautifully presented store is bursting with new stock and big savings. To my way of thinking though, possibly one of the best things about Early Settlers is the convenience as you can purchase pretty much all you need to redecorate your entire home in the one store. Jess said, “We’ve got really good savings on ceiling fans, indoor and outdoor lighting and wonderful outdoor furniture packages available.” The Early Settlers festive catalogue sale will run until December 4 and the store is packed with new season stock, which customers can order now in time for Christmas delivery. Visit Early Settlers at Shepparton’s Homema ker C ent re, B enal la Road , Shepparton and take advantage of this excellent sale.
Fonterra increases farmgate milk price FONTERRA Australia recently advised its suppliers that it has increased its average farmgate milk price to $5.10 per kilogram of milk solids, and increased its forecast closing price for the season to $5.20 per kilogram of milk solids. Fonterra Australia managing director, René Dedoncker said that this revised price reflected the strengthening global dairy prices. “Although the global market remains
Page 12 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1328 Wednesday, November 9, 2016
volatile, since the beginning of the season, global milk supply has continued to decline significantly while demand has remained relatively stable. “We have seen positive movement in GlobalDairyTrade (GDT) auction prices through August and September, with a 26 percent increase in the GDT price index since July, although the strong Australian dollar has offset some of the commodity market gains.
“Winning in cheese and nutritionals is core to our strategy to become Fonterra’s global ingredients hub for cheese, whey and nutritionals, complementing our consumer and foodservice businesses. “This is helping us move our farmers’ milk up the value chain into products generating higher returns, which ultimately flows back to the farmgate.”

By Nicholise Garner LOYALTY is such a valuable asset as it is earned over the passage of time and built on respect. I was struck by the staff loyalty that came when I went into Cellarbrations in Mooroopna to interview manager, Josh Lane. Josh was joined by sales assistant, Ayshla Simpson who proudly showed me through the new Cellarbrations store, located at the former supermarket site in the centre of Mooroopna. What was striking to me, more than the information relating to the wide and varied stock, both independent and locally supplied, and the sales philosophy outlining continuity in lower prices, was how the staff kept referring back to long term senior manager, Geoff Thomson as being a fixture and that his being away from work at this
time was a shame as he really is the face of Cellarbrations Mooroopna. That loyalty and respect have to be admired. Josh said, “Geoff has been here for 40 plus years, back when Kings Tuckerbag was up and running, and would have to be considered a Mooroopna identity, he’s an absolute fixture to this place. Geoff has a fantastic customer rapport and really knows this business so well. “We work closely together and make sure that our store specials are tailored to local sales and tastes. What we pride ourselves on is that our pricing is consistent and we’ve always got value.” Drop in to Cellarbrations at 94-96 McLennan Street, Mooroopna for some excellent value, or to test Geoff on his knowledge.

By Nicholise Garner FISHING is an art and a passion for so many and to anyone who cares about camping or fishing, it would be in your best interest to head down to “Trelly’s Tackle Spectacular” this Friday. Trelly’s Fishing and Hunting World business owner, Steve Threlfall said, “Cod season opens December 1 and with Christmas almost upon us, there are great opportunities for incredible bargains to be grabbed at our annual. This is our biggest sale and anyone who is into fishing or cares for someone who likes to
fish, would be silly to miss it.” “There are $5,000 worth of door prizes up for grabs and massive savings with rods dropped from $60 to just $20, reels from $249 will be down to $169 and savings on associated tackle. Aussies to the rescue
I’M in Hong Kong boarding a cruise ship to embark on a relocation cruise back to Australia. The ship is the Voyager of the Seas. As part of the Royal Caribbean line, it
carries around three and a half thousand passengers and today they are mostly Aussies. The ship has been cruising Asia for the past few months but will now relocate to Sydney for our summer. They tell us on board that on the last cruise, a four night Hong Kong to Hong Kong, they had mainly Asians on board who loved to gamble, so the casino was in full play but the bars were empty. From today, things have changed. With so many Aussies on board, the bars are buzzing. It’s one big party as we sail out from Hong Kong, with the ship really jumping. Many passengers had a few days enjoying all that Hong Kong has to offer, from its markets to casinos and for families, Disneyland was a must see. On this trip, our first call is the port of Sanya, which is said to be the tropical side of China. It’s the southernmost tip of Hainan Island and is being promoted as a tropical playground with its many beach resorts. On a tour, we were told of the history of the Li and Miao ethnic peoples. The Buddhist religion is celebrated with a giant Buddha. The Guan Yin Buddha stands on the edge of the sea at 108m tall. It’s made of titanium to withstand the typhoons and with its three faces looking down on you and out to sea, it’s quite an impressive sight to see. Back on board, we are now sailing for Vietnam. Some of the passengers are complaining about the service. The crew seem to be inexperienced and admit they are new to the job, “so please bear with us” they say. I stood in line for 40 minutes to arrange shore excursions. Normally cruise ships have order forms with the excursion brochure in the cabin and you simply fill it out and put it in a drop box. On reaching the excursion desk, I was told that they have them too but had not placed them in the shore excursion brochure in our cabins, so I along with half the passengers stood in line.
Page 18 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1328 Wednesday, November 9, 2016
At dinner, on our first night, I ordered two entrees and a main with no sweets. The two entrees arrived together. The second was cold by the time I got to it. This is not the way other cruise lines do it, just not good enough Royal Caribbean. It’s early morning as you arrive at what many call the Mediterranean of Vietnam. This is the port of Nha Trang. The crystal clear, blue water of the bay is a buzz with little fishing and tourist craft busily plying their trade. Overhead are seven huge towers crossing the harbour where a cable car carries visitors to Pearl Island; a blossoming tourist attraction with an aquarium and much more. Nha Trang has a temperate climate and over the years has attracted new residents from many parts of the world. Its long, white, sandy beaches and turquoise sea make this resort town a great place to spend some time. The shopping is good and ranges from markets to five star shopping experiences and its history, dating back to the Champa kingdom 13 centuries ago, still offers the spectacular view of the Cham Tower complex, still used by locals as a religious site today. Vietnam is the land of the motorbike. It often seems that there are more motorbikes than people. In the cities, it can be daunting to face a wall of motorbikes coming towards you as you cross the wide roads. The idea is that you just step off the kerb and keep walking at a steady pace and, all going well, the motorbikes will go around you. Out in the countryside, every so often you will see a wayside stop with refreshments and shade on offer and a number of hammocks. It has become the custom that wary motorbike riders, after 50km or so, will pull over buy a drink and lay in a hammock for a while before resuming their journey. To be continued… Until next time, Safe Travel’n, Geoff Vallance.

N Thousands enjoy variety of events continued from front page “WE are hoping to have a few more stalls next time. In fact, some that couldn’t make it this time have already put their hand up to come to the next one, which will be held on Sunday, December 4. But, because the following one falls on New Years Day we most likely won’t be holding one, but then it will be back in February.” Approximately 4,000 people flooded the street at this year’s St Georges Road Food Festival on Sunday, with numbers up 15 percent on previous years and visitors travelling from as far as NSW, Bendigo and Melbourne to enjoy the variety of multicultural delicacies on offer. People lined the stalls to enjoy a range of tasty cultural experiences, with foods prepared that you would find in Thailand, Turkey, India, the Philippines, Greece, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. G re at er S heppa r ton C it y C ou nc i l D i re c tor S u s t a i n abl e D e velopm e nt , Johann Rajaratnam said, “The festival (St Georges Road Food Festival) was in its third year and the crowd numbers are proof that this festival is a significant event on the Shepparton calendar. “This event is definitely about the food and we are so lucky with the variety we have in our own community. Many of the food providers are simply that, community groups making a few extra
dollars for the community. “T he st age a lso prov ide s a g re at opportunity for local talent to build their skills. “A huge thank you to all involved from stall holders, contractors, businesses, performers and volunteers who helped make the event a success once again,” Mr Rajaratnam said. The fifth OUTintheOPEN Festival saw 13 events ring out over three big days, with a diverse range of the community coming together to enjoy events including cabaret shows, a glamour part y, big community lunch, information sessions, lunches and a film screening of T he Queen of Ireland, but it was the carnival day on Saturday in the Queens Gardens that was one of the biggest draw cards of the event. O U T i n t h e O P E N F e s t iva l f e s t iva l director, Damien Stevens said, “It was a magical weekend and was bigger than previous years. “The events were very well attended. T he brunch had over 50 people, the glamour party we pre-sold 100 tickets and had well over 100 people there, the health forums on Friday we had 100 people at each and the dinner on Friday night and the cabaret show had 80 people attend. “It was great to see that we had visitors and locals alike come together to support

By Nicholise Garner IT TAKES energy and drive to open a new business and I’m personally always grateful to those who make that effort. It means I have more services available to me and it’s good to see a new café open up in the Shepparton Plaza across from the Shepparton Showgrounds. The Coffee Mantra business owner, Arun Gupta has come up with the perfect combination of food and atmosphere to delight customers. Arun said, “I have taken all of the things that I love when I go into a café, the aspects that make me feel comfortable, and I’ve put them all into place here at The Coffee Mantra. “I want my customers to have short waiting times, excellent, friendly service and good quality food at reasonable prices along with
an atmosphere that makes them feel really relaxed. We have free Wi-Fi, a charging station for iPhones and computers and are in the process of developing a book library including magazines, cross words and newspapers for patrons to enjoy. We also cater to children providing a colouring station. “I’ve got such a great team of staff who are really eager to get to know our customers and most importantly our food is prepared freshly to your needs with the best and freshest ingredients. The other thing that we have that makes us a little different to other cafes is a $10 Indian food buffet. Drop in to The Coffee Mantra at the Shepparton Plaza and mention The Adviser to get a free biscuit with your tea or coffee and grab your loyalty card while you’re there. Multi-million dollar road funding continued from front page
OVER 250 kilometres of road will also be resealed across the regions including sections of the Murray Valley Highway, Melba Highway, Borung Highway, Pyrenees Highway and Great Alpine. Reducing the level of deterioration of road surfaces will provide a boost to local regional producers, making their journey to market or to the factory more reliable. It will also help to ensure those visiting our regions can access local businesses and attractions safer and sooner, and support
local tourism. The road improvements will not only create smoother and safer roads for all motorists but will also preserve the longevity of the roads. While many communities across the region have struggled with recent flooding and severe weather, these works will provide extra support to complete emergency and patching works that have and are continuing to take place. Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Luke Donnellan said, “We’re working to make
the roads people rely on every day safer and more reliable – to ensure parents can take their kids to school safely, or get to work on time. “The North and North Eastern region is Victoria’s food bowl, tourism playground and a key national freight hub, and these works will help to continue to drive these industries. “We know that many communities have had a tough time lately with flooding and heavy rain. This funding will allow us to get on with some much needed maintenance.”

We’ll have a big marque and will be bringing out some lounges for customers to relax on. “With a free sausage sizzle, face painting, balloon making and lollies for the kids, its going to be a great day out for the entire family, not to mention an
opportunity to take advantage of our sale prices at one of our biggest sales of the year. “Customers can explore our new season stock and meet our friendly staff, who have excellent product knowledge and are very happy to help. Quality, affordability and meeting customer needs are what makes us so successful at Focus on Furniture and we’re excited to share in that success with our clients in our big celebration sale this Saturday, November 12.” Visit Focus on Furniture this Saturday, November 12, grab yourself a bargain and have some fun in the process. SHEPPARTON based racing driver, Garry Jacobson has delivered another dominating performance at the final round of the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series at Sydney Motorsport Park recently. After easily topping practice, then setting yet another new qualifying record lap for the series, the 24 year old racer gained his fourth consecutive pole position (top qualifying result), with the inclusion of his championship leading Dunlop Supercar Series performances this season. Driving the McQuinn Electrical sponsored MW Motorsport FG Falcon, Jacobson transferred his qualifying speed into outstanding race pace to win unchallenged in the opening race from the lights to the flag, scoring his fourth consecutive victory in the series. The second race of the grand final Khumo V8 Touring Car Series round on the Sunday saw Jacobson finish second after a slow start. This was the only negative to a weekend that
saw him earn back to back round victories following the Shepparton based racer’s impressive win of the third and final race of the round. Jacobson said, “A great round and fantastic to get back into the McQuinn Electrical Falcon and set the pace in practice and qualifying. Coming away from this second Khumo V8 Touring Car Series round with pole, two wins and a second place is pretty fantastic. “The MW Motorsport team didn’t miss a beat all weekend. There was some great racing out there, making it great preparation ahead of the final Dunlop Supercar Series round next month.” Jacobson will be back behind the wheel for what will be the most important race event of his career to date, the final round of the 2016 Dunlop Supercar Series at Sydney Olympic Park from December 2 to 4. Jacobson heads to that championship deciding round with a strong 166 point lead in the title fight.
Sports precinct athletics facility underway WORKS on the Athletics Facility at the Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct commenced on Wednesday last week, with construction works anticipated to be completed by March 17 next year. Works on the $970,054 contract will include the upgrade of the track to a synthetic surface allowing for national standard competitions, including the inner ‘D’ which will provide a suitable surface to facilitate high jump. During the time works are being undertaken, the site will not be available for use by individuals and sporting clubs and the
Shepparton Little Athletics Association will relocate to the Community Football Complex for the remainder of the season. Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Steve Bowmaker said, “The overall $19M redevelopment will establish the precinct as a nationally significant sporting complex and will enhance Greater Shepparton as the regional sporting capital of Victoria. “The investment will also assist council’s ability to secure and retain major sporting events and national championships that might usually be held in capital cities or interstate.”
