First sod turned on $34M aged care development A SOD turning event for the Shepparton Village’s new $34M, 120 bed aged care development and the launch of a Giving Tree fundraiser to help furnish the new development took place last week, marking the beginning of the long-awaited and exciting construction. Founding fathers for Shepparton Villages, Keppel Turnour OAM and Lance Woodhouse OAM turned the first sod on the site at Chas Johnson Reserve, which is expected to be completed by mid 2018. Shepparton Villages CEO, Kerri Rivett said it was a privilege to have Mr Turnour and Mr Woodhouse mark the occasion given their immense contribution to not only Shepparton Villages but to the Goulburn Valley community over the years. “This new building will set a new

benchmark for residential care in the region but most importantly ensure the most vulnerable in our community, the aged, can have a home that is bright, modern and local. It is a credit to the founding fathers that we are in a position today to be able to expand to meet the growing demand for quality aged care in the Greater Shepparton region,” Ms Rivett said. Member for Murray, Damian Drum, who launched the Giving Tree fundraiser said, “I am proud to launch the Shepparton Villages Giving Tree. It is an opportunity for the whole community to contribute and I congratulate the entire Shepparton Villages family on delivering what will be a first class facility.” Community contribution will be required to assist with the purchasing of all the comforts of

home including much needed equipment and beds to ensure the 120 residents have the very best care and comfort. The Giving Tree allows individuals, community groups or corporate organisations to make one off donations, or a pledge over several years to support the project. Information can be found at w w w. sheppvillages.com.au or by calling Shepparton Villages on 5832 0800 to further discuss.

Farmers lead the pack on quad safety LIVESTOCK producers are taking a proactive approach to farm safety, with beef and sheep farmers leading the pack in taking up the Quad Bike Safety Rebate Scheme. The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) has so far given away over $1M in rebates to farmers hoping to fit out their quad bikes with protection devices to minimise the risk of injury. The $6 million State Government program, which is being jointly managed by the farmer group and WorkSafe Victoria, opened five months ago and aims to improve farm safety by offering a rebate to primary producers who fit Operator Protection Devices (OPDs) to their quad bikes. VFF vice president, Brett Hosking urged people to take advantage of the program before the money runs out. “With $1M already spent on the program it’s not going to

last very long, so you better get in quick if you want to fit an OPD or upgrade to a safer vehicle,” Mr Hosking said. “The fact that we’ve seen such a fantastic uptake in the rebate shows how seriously farm safety is being taken by Victorian primary producers, because OPDs are vital to protecting farmers, their families, and their workers from the risks of using quad bikes.” According to WorkSafe statistics, almost 30 percent of workplace deaths in Victoria occur on farms, despite a mere three percent of workers being employed in the agriculture industry. “Ten farmers every week are injured seriously enough to make a worker’s compensation claim,” Mr Hosking said. “It’s incredibly serious and this program encourages farmers to take proactive steps in safeguarding against the risks of

Page 6 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1351 Wednesday, April 26, 2017

injury while using quad bikes.” All rebates will be available for a period of two years or until the funds are exhausted. Rebates will also be allocated on a first-in first-served basis to eligible applicants with complete applications. Farmers can tap into the VFF’s www.bequadsafe.com.au website to claim up to $1,200 (GST exempt) in rebates on OPDs, side-by-side (SSV) and other alternate vehicles. “The scheme is open to all farmers and we’re hoping to process more than 5,000 applications over the lifetime of the program,” Mr Hosking said. “This is a great indication of how the program is being received.” Further information is available by calling the VFF on 1300 945 030 or emailing bequadsafe@vff.org.au

THE paperless office may not have eventuated exactly as predicted, but the ability to cut precious hours from the workload of small to medium business owners is a reality. According to Cloud Copy Click’s regional sales manager and document management specialist, David Steigenberger document storage, retrieval and processing has never been easier. With Cloud Copy Click holding an Open Day this week to celebrate the purchase of

Page 8 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1351 Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Spade Computers, he says the timing is perfect for small businesses to review the hours spent processing documents. “The average invoice takes about seven minutes to enter. With some of our solutions including character recognition scanning we can cut that back to 30 seconds per invoice,” David said. M r Steigenberger said despite the perceptions, many of document management solutions are within reach of the small

business operator. “Really, we see a lot of small business operators who wear many hats in their business including the admin stuff, or it may be a spouse. But either way people are taking stuff home and adding 10 or 12 hours to their working week,” David said. “For the cost of three or four hours labour we can save up to 10 or 12, which leaves more time for other things in life,” David said.

By David Lee THE rebound wall to Undera Primary School has just had a makeover, thanks to the help from the team at Bunnings Warehouse Shepparton. On Monday, two team members from Bunnings Warehouse picked up paint brushes to give the popular rebound wall a new lick of paint in a rainbow theme, which was the first time in more than 20 years the wall had been refreshed. Undera Primar y S chool principal, David Farrell said, “Thanks to Bunnings Warehouse we now have brightly painted and colourful rebound wall! What a

change! I was so impressed with Paula and Mel from Bunnings Warehouse. They worked with a team of students to make the wall into a masterpiece! “What a great way to brighten up the playground and make it look more attractive. “ I t ’s a l s o a t e r r i f i c c o m mu n it y connection with students working with staff from Bunnings Warehouse on the project together. “Thanks again Bunnings Warehouse who provided all the paint and the ladders and have previously supported our school’s kitchen garden project.”

Shepparton is the home of classic cars

EXCITEMENT BUILDING… Excitement is set to hit Shepparton when Victoria’s first ever Lloyds Classic Car Auction event revs into the Shepparton Motor Museum. Photo: Nicholise Garner.

CARS have been delivered and are primed for Victoria’s first ever Lloyds Classic Car Auction event to occur at Shepparton Motor Museum from 12pm this Saturday, April 29. Lloyds Auctioneer and self-confessed classic car enthusiast, Bill Freeman said, “We’ve been researching in Victoria for the last couple of years for the best place to conduct our Classic Car Auction. It was obvious to us in our travels that Shepparton is the heart of cars & trucks in Victoria and possibly Australia. We chose Shepparton and teamed up with the Shepparton Motor Museum to create an annual event there. It’s a beautiful place. Anyone that lives in the Goulburn Valley should have a look at the museum there. They’ve done a fantastic job and have a world class exhibit and that’s why we chose to partner with them to conduct Australia’s greatest collector car auction.” Shepparton Motor Museum patron, Jim Andreadis said, “This is going to be a fantastic event and one that is a first not only for Shepparton but Victoria. Shepparton locals are lucky to have a

front row seat with easy access to a history making event that so many would only hope to personally witness. Not only will visitors have the opportunity to be involved in the auction but they will also be able to view the rest of the vehicles on display at the Shepparton Motor Museum.” For those who perhaps could only dream of owning a beautiful classic car of their own, purchasing a $10 raffle ticket through the Shepparton Motor Museum and Collectibles’ classic car raffle could win them a 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula V8 worth between $35,000 and $40,000. Online bidding is available now at lloydsauctions.com.au. The live auction event will commence at noon on Saturday, April 29 inside the Shepparton Motor Museum, selling some 60 cars over a couple of hours. People are encouraged to visit the museum from 8am on Saturday and be a part of this event that will be broadcast live online to over 100,000 people and gain national media exposure.

Game changer for region Internationally renowned architects designing our new SAM

DENTON Corker Marshall will, in the coming nine months, put together a final design concept, before releasing a tender for the project’s builder, with the two year construction set to begin early next year. Over the construction phase, the project will create 72 jobs, and once the museum in operational, it will increase visitor spending in the region by $6.25M per annum and generate 23 jobs by the tenth year. The architectural competition for a new SAM and building jury recommendation was endorsed at the ordinary council meeting on Tuesday, April 18 following a comprehensive design competition spanning several months. The seven member expert jury report noted that the Denton Corker Marshall proposal was unanimously selected as the winning proposal for the Stage 2 Concept Design Competition after a robust and rigorous assessment of the five design concepts against the agreed criteria. Denton Corker Marshall will be awarded $10,000 as a prize for being selected as the winning architect. The jury said that the Denton Corker Marshall proposal stood out because it combined a powerful and relevant conceptual idea – well-resolved and compelling in its sculptural expression and detail – with a highly adaptable, functional, safe and efficient solution, according to the report. The jury report stated the building as a ‘beacon in the landscape’ and offers an expressive, innovative, contemporary and exciting SAM that works well with its immediate and greater environmental, social and cultural contexts. It is anticipated that the design will make an outstanding contribution to the identity and culture of Shepparton and Victoria. The jury noted that each of the five shortlisted entries were carefully prepared

and commended the entrants for their endeavour. The field of submissions was competitive and the jury considered each design carefully and at length against the design competition’s evaluation criteria. The design objectives clearly articulated specific design requirements, which the jury focused on to reach their ultimate decision, which was unanimous. The 1,417 submissions received from the community were discussed and taken into account by the jury during their deliberations. The jury was impressed with the detailed responses provided by the Greater Shepparton community, and wishes to thank all of those who took the time to provide feedback, of which added significant value to the final report. Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Dinny Adem said the council was thrilled to endorse the report from the expert jury and was looking forward to seeing the concept designs expanded into construction plans. “The new SAM is going to be something

Page 18 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1351 Wednesday, April 26, 2017

that Greater Shepparton can be proud of well into the future,” Cr Adem said. “The new SAM will be a game changer for the region, creating tourism and employment opportunities for Greater Shepparton and beyond. It will provide a cultural centre to our regional city but it will be more than an art museum; it will be a place for learning and experiencing, socialising and celebrations. The selected design is a reflection of what makes Greater Shepparton unique and we congratulate the competition winners in being able to capture this,” Cr Adem said. Denton Corker Marshall design director, Adrian FitzGerald said, “Our design is characterised by simplicity and clarity with compelling imagery creating a landmark cultural destination. “By making the building small and tall we maximise parkland around the gallery and incorporate numerous places for community interaction, including a sculpture forecourt, community arbour, art hill, café and rooftop event venue along with sheltering verandahs

to all four sides of the building. It will be an art museum that is a delight to work in and a pleasure to visit – again and again.” SAM director, Rebecca Coates said, “We had five outstanding concept designs. They did have quite different approaches. Shepparton can do with a beacon, a space that draws people to it. The chosen design is a high building, a very striking building and will enable us to look beyond the river red gums, beyond the lake. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Denton Corker Marshall and to continue working with Greater Shepparton City Council and talking to the community and involve them in being increasingly excited about this building. “The whole of Australia is looking at Shepparton and saying, this is a big step, be proud. “I am looking forward to being able to show much more of our collection and working with artistic people.”

Scot’s undergoing a $1.97M redevelopment continued from front page DESIGNED by church architect, Randall Lindstrom and Peps Plans completing the design work for a new octagonal worship space with a pyramidal roof that will be constructed, the redevelopment will also see the current church building become a place for gatherings, offering hospitality services, with the potential for a small chapel. Reverend Rosalie Rayment-Hewitt said, “This is in line with our vision to be a church that loves God and is faithful to Christ in worship, community life and in serving the wider community. A church that is a place of unity, welcome, vibrancy and is actively reaching out to others and sharing gifts and resources. “The redevelopment will assist us in living out this vision by providing flexible spaces for a range of activities into the future. “The church vestry will be demolished and the floor levelled, leaving the rest of the church intact. “The new octagonal space will be linked to the present church and hall under one roof, enabling a natural flow from one aspect of our life,

Little athletics result not so little SPECTACULAR RESULTS… Tongala resident, Dylan Scoble ranked sixth for both the 800m and 1,600m events in the Stawell Gift. Photo: Supplied.

TWELVE year old Tongala resident, Dylan Scoble has come away from the Stawell Gift with spectacular results, being ranked sixth for both the 800m and 1,600m events. As a member of the Shepparton Runners Club, Scoble is no stranger to running, having taken part in the Stawell Gift last year and walking away being ranked 20th. Scoble said, “Over Easter weekend I wasn’t filling up on chocolate like my mates, I was doing what I loved more than chocolate, running! “I was ranked sixth in my heat for the 800m event on Easter Saturday with a handicap of 102m. I finished fourth in my

heat. Only the winner of every heat went to the final but I wasn’t disappointed because I ran a personal best. “Easter Monday we drove back to Stawell for my favourite event. The 1,600m handicap. I was ranked 36th with a 225m handicap. I felt good and I wasn’t nervous. I came sixth out of 50 and ran another personal best. “When Shepparton Runners Club coach, Chris Armstrong started coaching us at the Shepparton Runners Club he said to write down some goals. One of my goals was to finish in the top eight at Stawell. And I did it. I’d like to say thank you Chris and everyone at the Shepparton Runners Club.”

Shepparton District Junior Football League kicks off THE Shepparton District Junior Football League (SDJFL) kicked off at the weekend with a new board, a full fixture and plenty of excitement across the league. SDJFL president, Mick Betson is pleased the long lead into the season is over and the on field action is now underway. “With a late Easter this year the season has started a little later than usual but all is now in place and all teams were ready to go for the weekend. “The season includes 14 rounds in total with the annual Bendigo JFL interleague clash on May 28, a bye in the July school holidays culminating in the Grand Final on Sunday,

September 3. “The clusters formed last year as an outcome of our Primary School Review during 2015 are now fully formed and this has added an exciting new dimension to this year in the Junior Division with new team names, new colours and new jumpers all debuting. “The transition from primary school teams to a more club based system has been a really important development in our league and with the move to U10s and U12s, the pathway is much clearer. “We still have some work to do with the transition process from U12 to U14 and this will be a focus for the

board and the clubs during this year so that players are able to participate in their appropriate age groups. “The U16 competition will compete in one division this season and with 12 sides entered, a new final eight system will be put in place to give more opportunity for teams to be a part of the finals action. “We also welcome two new Youth Girls teams with the introduction of Shepparton United and Euroa bringing the number of Youth Girls teams to seven. “In all almost 1,400 participants will represent 63 teams in the league from U10 to U16 this year and we are excited for the year ahead.”

Round 3

preview MANSFIELD vs TATURA vs SHEPPARTON SEYMOUR Both sides undefeated after two rounds UNITED and this will be a beauty. Clifton, Cole

Not a bad time to travel up to Mansfield for the Demons, with both sides looking for their first win for 2017. Brett Mahoney has been a star in the first two games for the Eagles and will need to be checked but the young Demons are up for it through Angus Hicks, Jack Norman and Josh Kezerle. Both sides have struggled for an avenue to goal in the first two weeks and will look to rectify that. SHEPPARTON UNITED by 1 point.

SHEPPARTON vs EUROA

The Bears found out where they are at last week and Euroa have been super impressive in both starts with Francis Kinthari kicking eight goals last week and the Hayes brothers playing well. Shepp will look to James Wong for strike power along with the Brett brothers and Rowan Hiscock who has been in great form. SHEPPARTON by 12 points.

SHEPPARTON SWANS vs BENALLA

A tough start to the season for the Swannies and it won’t get any easier here against the undefeated Saints. Jared Bannister has 16 goals in two games and could go big here. BJ Squire, Jesse Finnen and Quade Johnstone will look to get the Swans back on track. BENALLA by 45 points.

and Meredith are on song, along with the excitement machine, Saad and will make the Lions hard to stop but the usual suspects in Wellington, Ryan and Lanyon will have the Dogs barking. Recruit, Andrew Ciavarella was on fire last week for Tatura and could be the difference. SEYMOUR by 15 points.

MOOROOPNA vs ECHUCA

The Cats have improved this year with plenty of youth along with Boyer and Freer but will have their work cut out here against Echuca. Simon Buckley has been best both games for the Murray Bombers and Rory Kirkby is a good target. The Cats will win soon but not this week. ECHUCA by 30 points.

ROCHESTER vs KYABRAM

A replay of last year’s grand final and probably a preview of this years too. The Tigers feel they are a better side this year but so do the mighty Bombers. Stroobants with six goals last week for Rochester will need to fire but will be up against Morgan or Smith. Both teams have stars on every line, which will make this match of the round. The Bombers haven’t lost since 2015, can Rochester get them here? We will know 5pm Saturday. KYABRAM BY 18 points.
