Sod turned for new education facility
$6M stage one begins By David Lee CONSTRUCTION for the $6M first stage of the new St Anne’s Catholic College in Kialla is set to begin in the coming weeks, following the turning of the first sod last week and blessing of the site. The construction of the first stage of the school, which will be a sister school to St Mel’s, St Brendan’s, St Mary’s and Notre Dame College, is expected to be completed by 2019 and will initially offer classes for preps and year 7 students. St Mel’s Education Community principal, Dom Poppa said, “This educational facility is being built to cater for the needs of the Shepparton community. “Catholic education has tried really hard to cater for the needs of the community and that’s what this facility is about.” Father Joe Taylor, who blessed the site last week said, “This is a very historical moment. We will look back in 10 years time and say wow. “It takes a lot of people to make a school, but this is all about the students.” Catholic Education Office assistant to the director planning and resources, Tom Sexton said, “It’s been a lot of work to get

Clarification THE ADVISER would like to advise that the photo caption in the story titled “Five new faces join committee” on page 17 of the edition of The Adviser that was published on Wednesday, July 26 incorrectly stated that treasurer, John Montagner was in the photo. John was in fact absent, and chairman, Simon Quattrocchi was in the photo.

The perfect Sunday By Nicholise Garner A FEW years ago my niece had her wedding in the little chapel at Emerald Bank and I did the photography for her. At the time I was still living in Melbourne and wasn’t really familiar with the Emerald Bank Complex, so when she showed me the beautiful display gardens and wedding lawns she wanted her photos to be done in, the space was a complete surprise to me. Riverside Gardens Nursery has been in business for 35 years now and with 22 of those years at the Emerald Bank site, it’s easy to see the work they’ve put into the place. Not only a fantastic nursery filled to the brim with an expansive range of trees, plants, garden décor and accessories, Riverside Gardens Nursery is also home to Charlie the cockatoo who will chat to anyone and the mini golf course is great fun for all.
Riverside Nursery business co-owners, Larry and Murray Smith have produced one of the most beautiful and picturesque garden spaces in the Goulburn Valley and have recently created a purpose built area for outdoor weddings within the gardens by their lake. Riverside Gardens Nursery is well worth a visit and their display gardens are open to the public free of charge. Personally, I’d strongly encourage families to make a day of it at Emerald Bank this weekend. Why not try your hand at mini golf after exploring the markets. The Village Market Shepparton is run by Emerald Bank Leisure Land and Shepparton Farmer’s Market is run by the Shepparton Motor Museum and are both on this weekend at Emerald Bank from 9am to 1pm. Enjoy the markets at Emerald bank on the first Sunday of every month.

IT’S an exciting time for local wine growers and connoisseurs. More than 75 wines from 31 wineries across the region underwent rigorous judging last week, to determine which would become named the best wines from each of the classes as part of this year’s Dookie Wine Show. We now await the announcement of the 2017 winning “Wine of the Show.” In its 14th year, The Dookie Wine Show has seen enormous growth in the range and quality of wines. Dookie Wine Show chairman, Paul Phillips said, “Despite seeing excellent quality wines, there has been a decrease in numbers of entrants this year as vineyards have been regrafted in the switch from mainstream to new varieties, which in of itself is a three to four year process. A lot of wineries are now experimenting with smaller, trial batches of wine, which take time to become commercially viable.” Class 1, Shiraz saw RPL Wines’ 2015
Shiraz awarded best in class for their 2015 Shiraz, Class 2, Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded to Elgo for their 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Class 3, Merlot and Merlot Blends, went to Ciavarella for their 2013 Cabernet Merlot and Class 4, Other Red Varieties, went to Mofro for their 2016 Shiraz Cabernet. Class 5, Chardonnay, was awarded to Monichino for their 2016 Chardonnay, Class 6, Other White Varieties, went to Tallis for their 2016 Riesling and Class 7, Sparkling Reds and Whites, went to Are You Game for their Chardonnay Pinot Noir. Wear Repair business owner Wendy Crow said, “People can develop great sentimental at tachment to clothing, especially when it’s associated with gifts or special occasions and in this era when so much is tossed away, it’s a shame not to just have clothing altered or repaired. I see people bringing in clothes their parents had worn which have come back into fashion and just need small alterations to be worn again. I also see a lot of people whose mothers are ageing and are no longer able to do the alterations for their family members as they had once done.” Wear Repair is situated a few stores down from the Lemon Tree Cafe and

Prepare your body for THE cold and bitter bite of winter is beginning to fade and that means that springtime is almost upon us, and that means it’s time to put some preparation in to ensure you get the most out of the warming weather and get a head start for spring.
EARLY RISE
Our sleeping patterns in winter can see us wanting to sleep in longer and later, but in spring, it is important to reset your sleep-wake patterns. The goal is to feel refreshed and productive, greeting the day with an energised outlook. Challenge yourself to wake up one hour earlier than you have been.
WARMER WEATHER IS COMING… With spring just around the corner, there are a few things you can do to prepare your mind and body for the warmer weather. Photo: Supplied.
EAT LIGHTLY AND COLOURFULLY
Now is the time reacquaint your palate with more delicate foods. Look for incoming seasonal greens, and add plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables back into your diet. Make your meals more vivid and colourful with nourishing smoothies and juices, energising vegetables, sprouts and teas. The idea is to add more good into your diet, not restriction. The more good you consume, the more good you’ll crave.
GET OUT AND ABOUT
Get yourself outside and into the growing sunlight. Take a short walk outside every single day, for at least 15 minutes.
Page 14 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1365 Wednesday, August 2, 2017
As the weather becomes more welcoming, it is so important for your mind, body and soul to spend time recuperating outdoors.
EMBRACE A BETTER YOU
Spring is a time of transitional rebirth, so let every fibre of your being reflects that. Practice rejuvenating, invigorating exercises, such as yoga or mindful running and cycling. Clear out the cobwebs of your mind, including any elements of selfdoubt and negativity that may have formed in the cold and dark of winter. This will ensure you have a spring in your step just as the weather begins to get better.

Your vitamins and minerals from A to Zinc VITAMIN F
VITAMIN F, an essential fatty acid (EFA), is composed of two fatty acids - linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linoleic acid (LNA) - with LA being the most complete fatty acid. There are two basic categories of EFAs, omega-3 and omega-6, which include LA and gamma-linoleic acid. The body is not capable of manufacturing EFAs, while the fatty acid arachidonic acid can be synthesised in the body from LA. Fatty acids are needed for normal growth and behaviour and help with healthy cell membranes, a well balanced hormone level and properly working immune system. As well as being great for the skin and hair, they are also essential for the synthesis of tissue lipids, play an important role in the regulation of cholesterol levels, and are precursors of prostaglandins, hormone like compounds producing various metabolic effects in tissues.
FOODS RICH IN VITAMIN F • Brazil nuts • Breast or formula milk • Corn oils • Halibut • Pecans • Pine nuts • Safflower oils • Salmon • Soybean oils • Soymilk • Sunflower seeds • Tofu • Tuna

EASE YOUR PAIN… Eczema is a common chronic skin condition that can be quite irritating, but there are a few options available to sufferers to help ease the skin inflammation. Photo: Supplied.
Prevention and treatment of Eczema Source: mydr.com.au
ECZEMA, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a type of chronic skin inflammation. People with eczema have dry, irritable skin, and itching and scratching contribute to a large part of the skin changes. Eczema is treated by avoiding irritants to the skin and by using applications of moisturising and medicated ointments or creams.
AVOIDING IRRITANTS AND ALLERGENS It’s important to try to avoid anything that tends to aggravate your eczema. Common environmental irritants include soaps, bubble baths, shampoos, solvents, wool, nylon, grass and sand. Pollens, house dust mites, animal dander (small scales from the skin and hair of animals) or even certain foods can also aggravate eczema if you are allergic to them. Overheating can also make your eczema worse, and should be minimised.

SOAP SUBSTITUTES
Normal soap is alkaline and can further dry out your skin. Soap and detergent-based shampoos should be avoided, and instead soap and shampoo substitutes should be used.
MOISTURISERS OR EMOLLIENTS Moisturising your skin is one of the easiest and most important measures in preventing itching and scratching, as well as reducing eczema flare-ups. Be careful to avoid moisturisers that contain perfumes and preservatives, which can irritate the skin.
STEROIDS Creams or ointments containing corticosteroid are the most commonly used treatments for exacerbations of eczema. Steroid preparations relieve itching by reducing inflammation in your skin, and are very effective and safe when used correctly.

WHO WILL GET THE WOODEN SPOON?… This rounds game between the Cats and the Shepparton Swans will most likely see the loser being the wooden spoon winner in 2017. Pictured, Jesse Finnen (Shepparton Swans). Photo: Bailey Opie Photography.
They all count WHILE the Kyabram Bombers are clearly out right leaders in GVL footy this year, every game over the last three rounds can have a club change its ladder position. The game at Mooroopna between the Cats and the Shepparton Swans will most likely see the loser being the wooden spoon winner in 2017. The Cats won their first game since 2015 earlier in the year versus the Swans and will look to repeat that here. Romain Grenville will give Mooroopna a target to kick to and with Dean Smith, Trent
Herbert and the evergreen Trent Freer in fine form recently they will be hard to toss. The Swans however have been improving as the season has progressed and are coming off a great win against Echuca last week. Jayden Clarke has been racking up the stats and with the experience of Andrew Riordan and Chris Cullinan the Swans want to reverse the result of earlier in the year and move off the bottom of the ladder. The Cats at home for mine but there won’t be much in it.
