Associate Dentist

Associate Dentist HAVING studied Bachelor of Dental Surgery in the United Kingdom and graduating in 2005, Raathika joined the team at Goulburn Valley Dental Group in 2007, working alongside her husband and principal dentist at the clinic, Sath. Raathika said, “I love the variety of work that we do. I have a keen interest in treating children and oral surgery. “What I enjoy most are the patients I work with. Everyone has a different story, and it’s really nice being able to build up relationships with people and gain their trust in what is typically seen as a feared profession. “Being in one practice for such a long time, really has some amazing benefits. You form a great working network and see patients over the years , sharing different stages in their lives.

BRODIE has rapidly developed a wonderful rapport with his patients with his down to earth personality and genuine caring nature. Being the oldest of eight children has given Brodie a distinct advantage with the young ones who seem to adore him. A f ter g rowi ng up i n Tonga la a nd attending school in Kyabram, Brodie was keen to work and give back to the local community he grew up in. Brodie graduated from La Trobe University in December 2014, and joined Goulburn Valley Dental Group shortly thereafter. He has a keen interest in Oral Surgery which is a field he is hoping to expand on.

“Often kids see a visit to the dentist as a fun experience nowadays, so it’s never too early to bring your kids in. Bringing them in for the first time with a toothache can take a lifetime to change their mind set and heal their fear.”

“The earlier a child is taught the fundamentals the better chance they will have at maintaining optimal oral health.”

She has played an integral part in the development of the new premises and major expansion of Goulburn Valley Dental Group. Laura finds being the practice manager as an enjoyable and rewarding job that sees her work closely with the practice’s clinical providers, dental assistants and administrative staff. Laura said, “My position includes many different tasks such as the day-to-day running of the practice, training, staff management and the implementation of policies and procedures.

CELEBRATING OUR NEW PREMISES AND MAJOR EXPANSION Dr Isha Pandher Associate Dentist

IT WAS after carrying out work experience at a dental clinic in year 10 that drew Isha to want to take it up as a career. Isha completed five years of studying for a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry/ Master of Dentistry at La Trobe University in Bendigo, and recently joined the team at Goulburn Valley Dental Group. Isha said, “I grew up around Shepparton and attended Goulburn Valley Grammar School, graduating in 2010. “I’ve known Sath for a few years and had seen what a great mentor he is and how friendly the staff at Goulburn Valley Dental Group are to work with. After working away from Shepparton for a few years I wanted to come back and work closer to home. “I love being able to give people that beautiful smile again. Nothing beats the hands on experience you get being a dentist and working with a great group of people each day.”

“Don’t forget to floss, decay commonly forms between teeth which flossing can help prevent.”

Dr Kevin Lai Associate Dentist

Dr Simra Azher

AFTER working with Sath during both a one year graduate position at Goulburn Valley Health in 2014 and during a student elective while studying a Bachelor of Dental Science at Melbourne University, Kevin made the decision to join Goulburn Valley Dental Group in 2015. “There was a great opportunity to join the clinic and I knew that there would be good mentorship at a large group practice. I heard others highly rate working at Goulburn Valley Dental Group, so it was an easy decision.” Kevin is very passionate about maintaining patient’s teeth for life and has taken an interest to rebuilding broken down teeth. “I really enjoy being part of the community, and seeing entire families come through the clinic. It is especially heart-warming when fellow family members and friends are referred to your care.”

“We are definitely not as scary as you may think or remember and its always easier, less painful and less expensive to get any potential problems fixed early before they really do become a problem.”

SIMRA joined Goulburn Valley Dental Group in January at just 24 years of age, but has undergone seven years of study at t he Un iver sit y of Melbourne, earning a Bachelor of Biomedicine and Doctor of Dental Surgery. Originally from Melbourne, it was Simra’s passion for the industry that lead her to move to Shepparton to take up the role with Goulburn Valley Dental Group. Simra said, “There are many elements of dentistry that interest me and that’s why I made the decision to study it. I enjoy the medical and cosmetic side and helping people to achieve the desired outcome. You get instant gratification when you see them smile. “This industry is very dynamic and constantly evolving. There are always new procedures to carry out each day and the continuous professional development keeps things interesting.”

“It is important to ensure you keep your teeth clean as it helps to prevent a lot of problems. The root of most dental diseases and problems stem from plaque build up.”

H Local’s driving force to S support mum with cancer By David Lee WHEN local resident, Camella Malone was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 31 this year, she didn’t know just how much her son, Lee Carter was going to throw his support behind her. After discovering his mum had been diagnosed, Lee, who is a truck driver for Leocata’s Transport, had some decals printed of the Breast Cancer Foundation Pink Ribbon and stuck them to the sides of his truck’s cabin in a show of respect and support. Camella said, “I’m amazed that Lee has done this. It shows that he really does love me and I’m very proud of him. “He’s been my number one support right through. I would say that this cancer has made us stronger. “Joe Leocata and the family at Leocata’s Transport have been a great support for Lee and myself through this. They’ve never let us down.” Lee said, “I decided to do this because not only is it a for a good cause but it means a lot to be able to show support to my mum. “I am so thankful to have had the support of the family at Leocata’s Transport.”

Rochester Historical and PioneerFederal Society Member for Murray receives grant

By David Lee MELBOURNE based artist, Steaphan Paton is the latest to add his artistic flair to the SAM Drawing Wall, installing a text based piece that has ties to his Indigenous roots. Member of the Gunai and Monero Nations, he grew up in rural Victoria, Steaphan’s work explores colonialism, tradition, concepts of race and conflict. Using the phrase “Subscribe to Your Tribe,” Steaphan used acrylic paint to create his freehand expressive gestures over art deco text. Steaphan said, “I haven’t really explored using text, so this provided me with a good opportunity to branch out and give it a try. “I like to put soft political ideas into my work and that’s what I have done here. “T he piece is about talking ab out s om e of t he c omplex it ie s around Aboriginal identity and pan aboriginality.”

Celebrating 25 years in the fight to beat cancer THIS year marks 25 years of the Cancer Council Victoria’s Shepparton Volunteer Group fighting to beat cancer through Daffodil Day events, and over that time, local florist, Sam Renato has donated approximately 120,000 daffodils for the cause. On Friday, August 25, volunteers will be hitting the streets selling daffodils and other merchandise for Daffodil Day and will be found at Fairleys SUPA IGA, GV Health, Renato’s Florist, City Walk, SPC Factory Sales, Shepparton Marketplace, Bunnings Warehouse, Riverside Plaza, Mooroopna Woolworths, and in the Maude Street Mall. Cancer Council Victoria Shepparton Volunteer Group volunteer, Vic Earl said, “For the last 25 years the volunteer group has had the very generous support from Sam Renato, who purchases the daffodils and then donates them to the group to sell on Daffodil Day. “In 19993, our group approached Sam to buy the daffodils, which he was happy to do as he had just lost a niece in her early 20s to cancer. His ongoing commitment and passion in supporting Daffodil Day has been inspirational. “Our unit has raised approximately

$73,000 from the sale of the daffodils and we are proud to have been able to do so.” Sam said, “We are pleased to once again be involved in such an important cause. I anticipate that we will provide approximately 8,000 daffodils this year and encourage the community to dig deep and show their support.”

More Shepparton patients treated sooner CODE One ambulance response times across Victoria hit 81 percent in the last quarter, with 80.6 percent of ambulances in the Greater Shepparton now arriving within 15 minutes for Code One emergencies, up from 78.4 percent compared to the same time last year. Locally, Shepparton’s GV Health has seen 8,010 people in emergency between April and June 2017 compared to 7,832 in the same period in 2016 and has treated 100 percent of the 23 category one emergency patients immediately on arrival between April and June 2017. 2,207 ambulance arrivals were experienced in the June quarter compared to 2,132 in the previous quarter and there has been a reduction in the number of patients on the elective surgery waiting

list from 773 to 608 over the past three months. Operations for 90 percent of all elective surgery patients were also provided within the benchmark times in the June quarter. The faster ambulance response times across the region means the average response time for an ambulance to reach the scene of a Code One emergency in Greater Shepparton has improved from 12:09 minutes to 11:32 minutes. Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Jill Hennessy said, “We are making sure more Victorians – no matter where they live – get the care they need faster. “Our ambulance and health services are in the frontline giving patients the first class care they need and deserve, when they need it.”

Letters to the Editor

CONTINUED NEGLECT OF BUILDINGS Dear Editor, The 5th of August was six months since the first of two fires suspiciously occurred in the old winery/cellar building on the corner of Vaughan and Hoskin Streets, Shepparton. Although the fires did not cause any significant destruction, it brought to my attention the neglected and dangerous condition of the premises. As a local resident who works nearby, and parks in the car park adjacent to the property, I wrote to the Greater Sheppaton City Council to complain about the unsafe and unsightly state that the property has been left in. In the six months since, I have not received any response whatsoever from the council, nor has any action been taken to secure the property and make it safe to the public. There are still large holes in the security fencing, which is easily moved to allow access to the site. The gate on Hoskin Street remains unlocked and open to anyone who desires to trespass upon the property. Even following the fires, neither the police, fire investigators, the council or the owners made any effort to lock the gate or secure the property from further damage. During the recent school holidays, I had

noticed suspicious people, teenagers, and even children on scooters, enter the property. What if they were to step on broken glass, or a discarded syringe? Would the council, or the owners, be held accountable? Rubbish, bits of wood, broken plaster and sheet of corrugated iron are littered all over the site. If this were a residential building in a prominent neighbourhood, the Council would not be able to act quickly enough to fine the owners for allowing the property to fall into such a state of disrepair. This building is located on a very busy corner of our CBD, on a street that see’s many tourists and visitors shopping at nearby stores. What an absolute embarrassment it is to the residents of Shepparton to have such an unsafe, unsecured, derelict and vandalised property in one of our main streets. What’s worse, however, is the complete lack of action the owners, and the Council, have taken to secure and restore the property, and prevent further destruction of one of the few historic buildings we have left in the centre of town. Yours sincerely, Jess Kerambrun Shepparton

DECISION FOR COACHES NOT TO STOP IN HIGH STREET, NAGAMBIE Dear Editor, For many years, V/Line coaches have picked up passengers on the corner of Marie and High Streets, Nagambie at 9:43am and 11:30am, taking them to Seymour to catch the trains to Melbourne. They have also stopped on the Shepparton run in the afternoon on the other side of High Street at about 4:30pm near the lake to allow passengers to get off there. This has been a good service for pensioners, those who do not drive, students, and has made the service easily accessible for the locals to use. Now we have been notified that as from August 23, the coaches will only have one stop, the Nagambie Station, which seems odd as there are no trains arriving then from either Shepparton or Melbourne. I have written to Strathbogie Shire Council who said it was a V/Line decision and that it was not part of their new design for angle parking in their High Street redevelopment scheme. So I have now written to the Public Transport Victoria (PTV), the PTV ombudsman and V/ Line offices in Melbourne about my concerns. This is crazy seeing the bus has to drive down to turn into High Street (100 metres from original stops) anyway to go in either direction, Shepparton or Melbourne, after leaving the station. So why stop there and inconvenience passengers by making them walk 1km to the station or back from it to High Street then in my case, another kilometre home? Can you imagine me taking a suitcase along that distance, which I often have done, if coming back from or to Broadmeadows to/from the airport smart bus connection. I also take the bus to Seymour to catch the Melbourne train for medical appointments. It is easier to go from Southern Cross Station to go to East Richmond station to go to Epworth Hospital or North Melbourne station to get to visit the Royal Women’s Hospital or Peter McCallum Hospital by a urban coach than trying to park in those hospital areas. I know of other pensioners who walk 2km to the High Street stops now, and who will find it very hard to walk the extra kilometre to the station to get the bus, and back after being dropped off there. They also go down to Melbourne or Shepparton for medical reasons, and health appointments. Nagambie has an aging population, and not all can drive or be taken to the station. I believe this decision to only stop at the station was called for by the PTV then V/Line sanctioned it. I don’t think the people making

this decision consulted with the locals who use the service I would like this situation researched further and for locals to have a say about this necessary public transport service to Nagambie and outlying district folk. If anyone needs to write or call V/Line about this they can contact me for the details. If we do nothing, it will just happen and so many will be disadvantaged and I feel that they will no longer use the service if they have to go to the station, which has no proper shelter, only two shells which house four people, and is open to all kinds of weather. This decision may suit the service provider, but it will not provide the care and support of our community of Nagambie and district, which should be paramount. Yours sincerely, Diane Grant Nagambie

MODERN DAY DRIVERS ARE DETACHED Dear Editor, In an age where it’s commonly thought that the more money is thrown at a sickness, it is assumed that obviously this will lead to the illness being cured quicker. As a parallel, I was interested to read The Adviser (July 26) stating that about 90 percent of major crashes are caused by human error, hence my rationale dictates that un-roadworthiness stems from drivers. Modern roads are big and beautiful with easy curves to navigate ones way toward ones destination….so easily in fact that drivers are sedated with their comfort and feelings of security. Combine this with legal drug users killing people illegally; we do have a recipe for disaster and 90 percent may even be too kind. Heated seats, reverse cameras, blind spot warning detectors, intelligent braking etc etc etc…all breeding a new race of dumb and detached drivers. Then we have the air-bag phenomena sold as a safety feature, and with all the other perceived post-modernity safety features and gadgets to weaken and de-skill drivers. I feel current advertised safety features need to be sold as ‘sedative features,’ because in reality, this is the end result. Yours sincerely, Terrance Ashdown Koonda Want to have your say? Street’s newest café WITHIN the Aboriginal community the title ‘Aunty’ is given to a women by way of respect for the role she has played in your life. Jetjas means ‘aunty’ in the Yorta Yorta language. Beautifully designed by owners, Con Giatrakos and Jackie Walker, Jetjas Café is Fryer’s Street’s newest eatery, with its name chosen to inspire a warm and homely feeling in patrons. Jackie said, “We want people to feel the same warmth and comfort as they would if they were to visit with their aunty.” Visually, this space is beautifully inviting with its gorgeous red gum countertop and recycled wood panels. Jackie said, “We found perfection in the imperfection

of recycled materials which we’ve used throughout the restaurant bringing a beautiful atmosphere to the place.” Providing home style, warming, comfort foods likes roasts and home made soups with Indigenous inspired flavours, Jetjas Café has already become a popular venue. Situated on the corner of Fryers and Corio Streets, Shepparton, Jetjas Café is a wonderfully warm and inviting restaurant that reflects respect and pride as well as an open community feeling. Visit Jetjas Café seven days a week open 6am until 4pm at 149 Fryers Street, Shepparton. Call 5821 8482 or follow them on Facebook.

New pilot program to keep closer watch on pollution problems GR EAT ER Shepparton City Council residents can expect a closer eye on local pollution problems under a new program that will see Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) officers work even more closely with selected councils. Under the $4.8M ‘Officers for the Protection of the Local Environment’ (OPLE) pilot program funded by the Victorian State Government, EPA officers will be assigned to 13 councils around the state which expressed their interest i n pa r ticipati ng, i nclud i ng Greater Shepparton City Council. EPA north east manager, Emma Knights said the program was part of the EPA reforms and were aimed at providing more effective regulation of environmental issues. “EPA will be able to build on the already excellent relationships it has with local councils and we already work closely together on many issues, but it’s expected that having a dedicated resource through

OPLE will mean faster identification and resolution of local problems which is obviously good news for residents,” Emma said. “The OPLE program is part of the overall EPA reforms which will see benefits for the whole Victorian community. “OPLEs and Greater Shepparton City Council officers will respond to smallerscale and lower risk waste and pollution complaints such as small to medium scale illegal dumping, litter, noise, dust and odour arising from smaller business and industry. “ T h e i r dut i e s w i l l a l s o i n c lud e responding to complaints, information and education activities to support prevention of pollution, and proactive inspections of premises to support compliance. “By taking a proactive, prevention based approach, we are able to work together to improve the overall condition of Victoria’s environment,” Emma said.

Lovell seeks clarification on GV Health kids bed funding

QU E ST IONS abound on how the Andrews Government will fund the promised 12 paediatric beds at GV Health according to the Member of Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell. In a constituency question to the health minister in parliament last week, Ms Lovell sought confirmation additional funding would be made available to fund the four extra paediatric beds and that these will not be at the expense of beds in another area of the hospital. “Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Andrews Government planned to cut the number of paediatric beds at GV Health from 12 to eight as part of the planned redevelopment. In June, the Health Minister confirmed the planned redevelopment will deliver at least 12 children’s beds to the hospital,” Ms Lovell said. “My c onc er n a nd t h at of t he Shepparton community is that this change of heart from the government will mean funding for beds in another area of the hospital will be used to fund these extra paediatric beds.” Ms Lovell said it was incredulous that the government had planned to cut paediatric bed numbers as part of a major redevelopment, considering the large number of children within the GV Health catchment area. “Currently there are more than 15,500 children under 14 years of age living in Greater Shepparton, the primary catchment of GV Health. When you add the number of children in outlying areas that rely on the hospital, the decision to cut paediatric beds was a disgrace,” Ms Lovell said. “While the confirmation of 12 beds for the children’s ward is welcomed, the people of Shepparton are concerned that another part of the hospital will be shortchanged to pay for it. “ T h a t i s w hy I h av e s o u g h t confirmation from the Minister that the four extra paediatric beds will come from additional funding and bed capacity in another area of the hospital will not be reduced,” Ms Lovell said. By Nicholise Garner. IT’S wonderful to see new and varied restaurants in Shepparton and I can’t help but feel a sense of pride when I tell people about what Shepparton has to offer. With it’s gorgeous design, Anaya Restaurant and Tapas Bar brings a vibrancy to the street that is quite beautiful. Pronounced An-eye -ya…the name Anaya has two very significant meanings. and business owner, Karan Bisht said, “I have worked for 10 years in the industry, traveling many places in my job and at my last workplace, Hellenic Republic in Kew, I came to understand what was very important to me in relation to food. The notion of ‘freedom’ in my menu and ‘care’ in my preparations. Anaya is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘freedom’ and in Urdu Anaya means ‘care’, so I named my restaurant Anaya after my core values in relation to food. “Freedom is expressed in providing a tapas style service, with a menu that changes to suit produce and which is intended for sharing. Care comes in the preparation and service of food as well as taking supply and sustainability into consideration. Our ‘care’ philosophy leads us to choose local suppliers and to be mindful of how our waste and energy usage affects the environment.” I personally have eaten at Anaya and can recommend it. With three levels, there is a basement restaurant with a window at street level, which reminds me something you’d see in London. There is a bar and above that a lounge. MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT… Numurkah’s GrainCorp plant is set for a $50M upgrade, which is set to be completed by mid next year. Photo: Supplied.

Expected to be completed next year, the upgrade will increase the capacity of the site from about 730 metric tonnes of processing per day to 1,000 metric tonnes, which is an increase by about 40 percent. GrainCorp Numurkah plant manager and manufacturing general manager, Troy Knox said, “These works will ensure that our production is capable of keeping up with growing demand and to keep the plant cost effective. “Part of the project is a new solvent extraction plant, which retrieves residual oil from canola seed, allowing for more economical use of the seed.

“We will also see the construction of a new administrative building as part of the works. “We anticipate that the new project will see the creation of an additional 50 jobs when it hits peak construction, as well as further technical support staff required to be employed to ensure that plant operators have the knowledge and skills required to operate the latest technology in the plant. “We are hoping to see the first phase of the project to be completed in October this year and the new solvent extraction plant completed by June 2018.”

A haven for our youths continued from front page THE Haven program volunteers, Jamie Lea said, “The values behind The Haven are all about having a safe, family feel space where people feel welcome, included, valued and respected. “We have a pool table, ping-pong table, a rec-room and will be fitting a kitchen soon. This space allows the youths to come in for many reasons. They can learn new skills, talk to and received advice from mentors, study and meet new friends. It’s about providing a space where they can express themselves, learn and grow.” GSLP executive officer, Lisa McKenzie said, “We started this program at the end of January and we are so grateful to have had the support from Primary Care Connect in the beginning. But, we outgrew the space that we had, which just goes to show the need for a space like this. “We have 20 volunteers who come in and offer such fantastic support. It really is like a home environment where everybody feels included. “This program is filling a big gap for social connect and provides access to mentors and role models, helping the youths to gain a sense of belonging in the community. “A significant amount of funding will go towards the continuation of this program as we have already seen that the success so far

really highlights the need for an open door, after hours environment that is safe. “We had foundation funding from Greater Shepparton City Council, The Community Fund Goulburn Valley and through the Tat200 to get our trial up and running, which we are very grateful for. “If anybody has anything they wish to donate such as musical instruments or furniture, or if they have a special set of skills that can contribute to the mentoring of our local youths, we encourage them to call Bella on 0400 133 650.” Local youth, Tiannah Paige said, “The Haven is like a family. Everyone comes here to get a break from their day, school or to just escape home. “It’s wonderful. The volunteers and mentors are amazing and you meet so many wonderful people. “If you are wanting to check it out, I couldn’t recommend a better place to go.” Local youth, Shaun Reece said, “A place like this can help keep you out of trouble and provides a place for you to hang out, make new friends, gain confidence, learn something new and offers a place where there is a good sense of belonging.” The GSLP has also found a new home of its own Ground Floor, 40 Welsford Street, Shepparton after being previously located within the Game Traffic and Contracting building on Drummond Road.

BACK in 2015, GOTAFE realised that there were various competitions in our region that celebrated the great things that we do around food and wine, however there was nothing that showcased the talent that we have in the field of coffee – those who make, roast it, live and breathe it. Now in its third year, the annual GOTAFE Barista Competition aims at highlighting ‘the best’ in coffee, and is open to all cafés and restaurants in Shepparton. This year the competition will take place as part of the Shepparton Winter Festival in the Maude Street Mall, and the general public can get involved and come along to see who is the best of the best in our town! There are a lot of talented and passionate Baristas in this area, and it is a fun way of letting them showcase their talents, network with their peers, and encourage some friendly rivalry amongst the businesses and the baristas themselves.

The GOTAFE Events students, along with their trainer Claire Taylor, will assist in setting up and running the event on the day as part of both the Certificate III and Diploma of Events programs. This provides the students real work outcomes and hands on experience of what it is like to plan and run an event, and forms part of their assessment for their course. GOTAFE’s Annual Barista Competition is proudly sponsored by Direct Hospitality and Conti’s Dairy. Hosted by GOTAFE Hospitality department and students, the competition will be judged on presentation, cleanliness, time and taste, with three coffee styles to be presented to the expert panel of judges. The Barista Competition will be held as part of the Winter Market. Please complete your registration by 21 August 2017 at http://www.gotafe.vic.edu.au/ baristacomp/

TANTALISE YOUR SENSES… The 2017 Dookie Wine Show Dinner is a tantalising event not to be missed. Photo: Supplied.

ANOTHER year, another spectacular event; the annual Dookie Wine Show. Hosted by GOTAFE, the event has grown from humble beginnings and is now one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year. GOTAFE have proudly been involved with The Dookie Wine Show for the past 13 years, and use this event to provide learning outcomes for students who are studying Hospitality, Tourism, Events and Cookery. In 2017, the theme will take on a distinctly Moroccan flavour, with the food and décor reflecting a distinctive African vibe. As always, the seven (7) award winning wines from the Dookie Wine Show, which were judged back in July, will be paired with the five (5) course degustation menu, all prepared and cooked by the GOTAFE students. GOTAFE hospitality, events and tourism trainer and co-ordinator, Claire Taylor said, “The Dookie Wine Show Dinner is part of

our master class program, and is a great way of challenging and teaching the students. Various high profile chefs have participated in these dinners over the years, and the students benefit greatly from firsthand experience with industry professionals. The courses are very hands on, one of a kind experiences that they are all able to be a part of. This is our hallmark event and we want to make sure, with the help of the students, trainers community and wine growers across the region, that the event just keeps getting better and better.” The dinner will take place at the McIntosh Centre in Shepparton on Tuesday September 19. The cost is $99.00 per person inclusive of GST and bookings can be made online at www.gotafe.vic.edu.au/campus-life/ restaurants/masterclass/ or phone 1300 GOTAFE (1300 468 233).

SPORT

Basketball on the lookout Fashion on for next year’s big stars the green BASKETBALL Victoria Country’s (BVC) elite junior basketball pathway for 2018 will start up in October with trials for our elite teams and programs. Trials for BVC’s National Intensive Training Program (NITP), Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup (ACJBC) and Victoria Country U16 and U18 state teams is set for October 2 and 3 at the Shepparton Basketball Stadium. These trials will help country coaches and staff determine the Victoria Country teams heading into 2018. With the recent gold medal triumph of our Victoria Country U18 Girls and silver medal success for our Victoria Country U16 Girls, the program is in a strong position. Country High Performance coach, Justin Schueller said the trials start championship preparations and are important for any junior athlete looking to excel in the sport in 2018.

“This is the most important part of our High Performance calendar as the trials are the starting point to the following year’s National championships and Australian representatives,” Schueller said. “Those athletes that get selected will benefit from our weekly training environment through our satellite centres around Country Victoria and then have the chance to represent the state at a National Championship following Country Cup. “It’s a great pathway and one that helped Victoria Country win a gold and silver medal at this year’s national tournaments. “There are a lot of Country Victoria athletes doing well on the international and national stage and all of them have gone through this pathway as it’s a key component for the athletes’ development and future success. “I can’t wait to see the improvement in athletes we know and also finding some new talent throughout the trials.”

FASHION is coming to the green next week, when the Kialla Lady Golfers hold a fashion parade at Kialla Golf Club. Running on Friday, August 25 from 1pm, the day will see the latest spring and summer clothes and accessories presented by Black Pepper and Evans Shoes. Kialla Lady Golfers vice captain, Jen Jennings said, “We are excited to be holding this event again. “We invite the community to come for a good afternoon tea and a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival. “Half the women say they come for the afternoon tea, but it is an important day to help raise funds for the club.” Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased on the day or by calling Jen Jennings on 0427 848 076 by Tuesday, August 22.

Looking to build UNITED TAKE ON THE CATS… Shepparton United and Mooroopna are set to battle it out this weekend, and the victor will set themselves up for next year. Pictured, Kane Boyer (Mooroopna). Photo: Bailey Opie Photography.

THIS week’s match of the round at Deakin Reserve between Shepparton United and Mooroopna not only shapes as a great match up but will also give the winner a higher position on the ladder and some confidence going into next year. The Cats are coming off a great win last week and have really improved in the second half of this year. Veteran, Trent Freer has had a great season and with Trent Herbert and a lot of youngsters, the future looks bright across the causeway.

Page 26 – The Adviser. Australia No. 1:1367 Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Shepparton United would have liked a few more wins this year but have found a few players in Jack Norman, Jye Chalcraft and Harrison Osborn. The Demons really need to win this to give the club a boost in a disappointing season. It is going to be tough this game with no love lost between these two clubs that goes back to the ‘80s. The Cats are in the better form in recent time and will get the chocolates.

CELEBRATING OUR NEW PREMISES AND MAJOR EXPANSION

Something unique

Proud to support GV Dental Group

for the Goulburn Valley region AS part of Goulburn Valley Dental Group’s new expansion, something unique has been brought to the Greater Shepparton area with the inclusion of an apartment for visiting specialists. The two bedroom apartment comes fully furnished with access to amenities and is situated above the dental clinic’s new premises. It allows specialists to visit from outside the region and treat patients who might have otherwise had to travel to Melbourne. Goulburn Valley Dental Groups practice manager, Laura Kilgour said, “We are very fortunate to now be able to offer this specialised service to the people of the Goulburn Valley and beyond. Our visiting specialists, Mr Kevin Spencer (oral surgeon), Dr Andrei Locke (periodontist) and Dr Kevin Morris (periodontist) are available once a fortnight. “This is such an important service to offer. There is a huge demand in the area and if this wasn’t available, patients would have to travel. “With the new facilities, we are now in a better position to attract more dental specialists to the Goulburn Valley.”

The practice’s Goulburn Valley Healthy Smiles program takes students on a 45 minute journey through healthy eating, drinking and the use of games to show grades prep to two the importance of maintaining good oral health. Amy said, “This program builds on the Smiles for Miles program for kindergarten children, provided by Dental Health Services Victoria. “After the presentation, we give the students a take-home oral health pack with information for parents so that the learning can continue at home. “This year we have 19 schools on board and will teach just over 1,600 children in 10 sessions.

Doors open at new, state-ofthe-art facility FIRST opening in Nixon Street over 25 years ago, Goulburn Valley Dental Group has evolved with technological and patient needs, and following its recent expansion the new state-of-the-art dental facility has a lot to offer the Goulburn Valley. Beginning with just two surgeries and six staff, the facility grew from a three chair surgery, to a five chair and then six chair surgery as demand increased. Today, Goulburn Valley Dental Group offers a 10 chair surgery with state-of-the-art inclusions to keep up with advancements in technology such as a large sterilisation area, in-house OPG x-ray, laboratory facilities and visiting specialists. After becoming the principal dentist in 2006, Dr Sath Saranathan has helped the facility grow; today having 24 staff in total, which includes seven dentists and one oral health therapist. In a first of its kind for Shepparton, Goulburn Valley Dental Group’s new purpose built premises on Nixon Street boasts a two bedroom apartment on the second storey to allow for visiting specialists to stay overnight. The region will also now benefit from a brand new conference room for in-house professional development and education, which can also be rented out to local businesses requiring a 30 seat boardroom style space, a 75 seat theatre style space or 45 seat classroom style space. Sath said, “Growing from a 300m2 facility next door to a 1,100m2 facility across two floors, is something we are all very excited about, and we are pleased to be able to offer such a state-of-the-art service to the local community. “Dezign Interiors have done a fantastic job of creating a modern space that is functional and comfortable for our patients and staff. “We are also proud to have our own in-house oral health therapist, who not only

offers services within the facility, but also visits schools and nursing homes around the region to educate patients on healthy eating, drinking and oral disease prevention through the Goulburn Valley Healthy Smiles program. This program is being very well received by the community. “Our new premises will enable us to expand our services and will help to reduce waiting times for those who may have previously had to wait days if not weeks with a toothache. “We encourage the community to drop in and see our new facility, and book an appointment for a check-up with one of our friendly dentists.” Photos clockwise from top: COMFORT AND STYLE… Reception and waiting room at the new Goulburn Valley Dental Group clinic. Congratulations Sath and the Goulburn Valley Dental Group team on your fantastic new premises and continued success. We’ve proudly fitted out Goulburn Valley Dental Group’s new surgery with the latest and greatest in patient comfort & entertainment.

All the best, from Nathan, Nick and Stewart!
